There seems to be a very active discouragement of new threads that are in anyway related to a thread that might have started in the last 2, 3 or 4 years.
I think this really discourages anyone new from participating in the forums. Some of the threads have way too many pages to read through, and really, if there are comments that are several years old, what's the point in responding to them? Chances are the user has moved on by now.
Realistically, once a thread has got beyond a couple of pages the chances of getting any new and meaningful input on it is pretty much nil.

You really mean the ability to billboard one's self - get in the queue and add your comments to an existing thread - you'll get your 15 seconds of fame when you come up with a thread that has a new idea. - Trapped'
