| 1,2,3, Beer Bread Posted: 12/24/2007 7:55:29 PM | I used to have a recipe for Beer Bread that used one cup of one ingredient, 2 cups of another and 3 cups of another.
I know it had beer, sugar and self rising flour in it. It seems to make sense that it would be one cup beer, 2 cups sugar and 3 cups flour, but I'm not sure I want to try this without being sure. It may be one cup sugar and 2 cups beer.
Does anyone have this recipe?

3 cups flour 3 teaspoons baking power 1/4 cup sugar 1 (12 oz can) beer 1/2 cup melted butter
The combining stuff is on there, together with baking temp and other beer bread recipes.

| 1,2,3, Beer Bread Posted: 12/25/2007 8:35:13 PM | Thanks, Solitarygal!
I keep forgetting about google.....my daughter loves google!
I think this may be the recipe....
3 cups self rising flour 2 tablespoons sugar 12 ounces beer Mix ingredients well. Pour into greased loaf pan. Let rise in warm place for 25 minutes. Bake at 375* for 40 minutes.
3 cups flour, 2 TBSP sugar, 1 can beer.... :-)
so glad I didn't try the recipe I had in my mind....would have been way too much sugar!!!
If you like the more yeasty flavor, use a stronger beer, if you like it lighter, use a lighter beer like bud light.

| 1,2,3, Beer Bread Posted: 12/25/2007 9:09:17 PM | I have a better bread recipe that I make. 1 bag of whole wheat flour, about a cup of rye flour, a handful of milled flax seed, another handful of milled sesame seeds , 1 soup spoon of milled anise seeds, and a handfull of yeast, a handfull of salt. ok, add about a cup of milled oats for taste. Add water a n mix. When it rises make 4 loaves bake at 375 for 45 min or so. It tastes real good.
(Milled means I put the stuff in the coffee grinder first).

| 1,2,3, Beer Bread Posted: 12/26/2007 2:35:42 AM | Thanks - Sounds healthy and delicious. Just a few questions: 1 bag of whole wheat flour - What size bag? Add water - How much water? Any tips for type of coffee grinder? | |

You can put more of this or less of that, it is not a disaster. Just make sure you put enough yeast, because these ingredients are heavy, and will not rise to the sky like the white fluffy bread.
Any coffee grinder is fine, if you don't have one at home, use the blender in high speed.

| 1,2,3, Beer Bread Posted: 2/22/2008 10:43:51 PM | My beer bread:
Butter pan w/a stick of real butter.
3 cups *self-rising* flour 1/3 cup sugar 1 can beer
Mix together w/a fork, dump in pan. Bake til it looks done. Few min before taking it out, melt a little of your real butter left from the stick mentioned above, and dribble it over the top of the bread.
I bake most things on 350 and can't remember how long it takes to get done, under an hour though, maybe 45-50? just have to watch it I guess.
I got this recipe from googling a couple of years ago and have stuck w/it. It makes a very sweet bread and the butter makes the crust really wonderful. We eat it hot as quickly as we can!
Also you can keep the ingredients on hand and then if you need to make something to take to a church dinner or potluck, you can have it mixed and in the oven in 15 min, then jump in the shower, get dressed, get bread out of oven, and you are good to GO!

| 1,2,3, Beer Bread Posted: 3/12/2008 7:39:22 PM | I tried your recipe Stacismom and it was GREAT!!! I had raves about it...so thank you for a wonderful recipe.
Everyone should give it a try...even those that are NOT a beer drinker. Remember, the alcohol content burns off when it cooks so no worries here.
Just delicious..Thank you again!!!
