Has anyone seen the new trailer for the sequel to BB? The Dark Knight looks to abosulutely kick ass. Heath Ledger as the Joker looks and sounds incredible. I got chills down my spine when I saw the first shot of the in the trailer along with hearing that demented laugh.

I like finally seeing some Batman movies that try to capture the dark mood of the comic without treading on silly turf. While I did enjoy Tim Burton's first movie, it was simply to hokey and I felt that it did the comic a great injustice.

Heath Ledger's Joker is way more psychotic and maniacal looking that the Jack Nicholson's character did. Don't get me wrong, I love Jack. But there is no comparison between a malnourished John Wayne Gacey who looks like he just woke up from a face-first nap in the gutter and a colorful dude in a crisp velvet suit who looks like he's trying to eat a clothes hanger when it comes to evil and scariness.

I felt that the first movie of this series was nothing shy of refreshing and I am sure the second will not let me down either.

At least in the Tim Burton movies, we got to actually see Batman fight. The one problem I had with Batman Begins was that damn shaky camera.

It worked alright for the FIRST fight at the docks--it was sorta like a horror movie where all you could see was this....THING...tearing into the thugs(almost like seeing what the bad guys see when they fight Batman)

But for Batman's OTHER fights, I wanted to see some martial arts butt-kicking! I read somewhere that one of the reasons for the shaky camera during fights was because Christan Bale couldn't move that well in the batsuit. Well if that's the case, then hopefully the new costume will help--it looks more flexible, while still looking like armor (or at least armored in the most vulnerable places).

And I agree that Ledger's Joker is way more creepy-looking. I admit, I wasn't TOO thrilled at first when I saw the pics...but like the Tumbler(which people wern't too sure about, then loved after it was seen in action), Joker looks better on screen than in photos. Hopefully this Joker is as psycho as he looks.

If kids weren't afraid of clowns before...they sure as hell will be after Dark Knight. lol

This movie has its work cut out, if its going to follow Batman begins. And after seeing that trailer I think it has a very good chance. Because after watching the waste of film that followed Batman returns, I made a vow never to spend money on 2 and a half hours of visual, and psycholigical vomit.

Ok, Jack Nicholson is one of the greatest actors, yada yada... but he (and co-conspirator Tim Burton) ruined The Joker. The Joker should have been tall and lean and the voice should have been higher... better able to convey the mania of a pure loon. Someone like David Bowie (circa 20 years ago). I've only seen the trailer once, but it looks to me like Heath Ledger (that's him? really?) has really allowed himself to be influenced by Nicholson's work -and I think that's a terrible mistake. I was trying to think of an actor, today that could really pull of The Joker... and I was drawing a blank, but I'm watching The Colbert Report... and after watching Stephen Colbert prance his way through Prince's "When Doves Cry" and observing his exceptionally maniacal smirk... that's my candidate.

As someone who's an actual Batman fan, I loathed everything that Tim Burton put out. It was bizarre, candy-coated crap that bore no resemblance to what Batman should have been. I love a lot of Tim Burton stuff, but imposing this vision on Batman just didn't fly for me. I was really happy when I heard about Batman Begins, and that someone was going to redo the franchise "how it should have been." I wasn't disappointed... it takes elements of the "Golden Age" Batman which was a bit lighter in tone, and included characters like Lucius Fox without ignoring the pathos of Bruce Wayne (the self loathing, and taking a gun to the parole hearing of his parent's killer).

...my nerdiness knows no bounds, apparently.

it certainly looks much better than the first one...Im one of the few who was not impressed with Batman Begins: the villain (scarecrow) didnt fit in the movie, the bat car looks like a remodeled golf war tank, Bale over-did the serious Batman, Morgan freeman and Michael Caine seemed to be fighting for a part in the movie and... well, Catie Holmes' acting. But the Dark Night seems way better, heath ledger does a demential, very convincing joker...

I personally thought that Jack Nicholson's face actually looked more like the comic book depiction of the Joker, but he wasn't tall and lanky enough to fit the physical description. I was actually baffled when I first found out Heath Ledger was going to be the new Joker; he doesn't have the face (and I'm sure the Joker has straight hair), but he has the body type. In terms of his acting, I guess I'll just have to wait and see if he can pull off being the Clown Prince of Crime...

Christian Bale of course makes an excellent Batman hands down (George Clooney and Val Kilmer were the worst, I mean seriously, George Clooney looks nothing like Bruce Wayne). He's got the look, the voice and the physique; he reminds me of the Bruce Wayne/Batman from the animated series I used to watch when I was in middle school.

I don't think that I'm ever going to really like a Batman movie until they can get him to move the way Batman should, ie. like a cat as opposed to a modestly atheltic guy in a rigid rubber suit.

Is that really too much to ask?

Bale over-did the serious Batman

I thought he was pretty good at it, especially when interrogating that cop. Now THAT'S how Batman should frighten criminals.

Bale's Bruce Wayne wasn't too bad, either. I love how he joked to Lucious about going out, getting gassed with a deadly toxin, after being saved from Scarecrow's gas. Seems to have a twisted sense of humor, just like the animated version (he seemed to enjoy taunting the Joker in the 90s series and "Justice League" )

Cool! Somebody else is totally excited about this movie coming out though I know there must LOTS A' PEOPLE!! I knew it was going to be awesome even before the trailer came out and I saw/heard that awesome freak Joker when I saw Batman Begins (the first in this newest series). The villain is always the biggest thrill of the movie and Joker in this case looks and sounds as great as the rest of the stuff in the movie. I was shocked to hear it was Heath Ledger behind that face/voice. A young blonde stud? Can't wait to see what he did with it the rest of it. Loved the trailer by the way. Full of attitude which is what I love about these comic hero/villain movies. Ooooh don't they so inspire you?! :)

And also the newest series is best by far. Scarecrow who a previous poster dissed I think did an excellent job as well. I do picture usually a tall skinny joker like in the cartoon series but if he he can pull it off otherwise than he could! :)

I think Nicholson's Joker was not all that bad. Could have been worse if they'd picked someone else for the role. Was much better than Michael Keatons batman because Keaton had a wuss physique that required him to have a rubber suit with fake muscles. I prefer an actor with impressive real muscles who didn't need fake muscles to cover up his weak frame. A good example is Clark Bartram as Batman below

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hjp0I_okX0w

I have to admit Christian Bale did well as Batman though, because he actually did work out and get real muscles to more accurately portray Batman, unlike other actors who played batman in the past who had lackluster physiques.

I think someone who'd be a great Joker would be Jim Carrey. Sure, he already did the riddler, but does not mean he could never be the joker. He actually used to do an impression of the joker(actually Nicholson as the joker) in his standup routine, contort his face into a joker face while holding a newspaper in front of his face so the audience couldn't see, then he'd pull it down real fast and then say in a Jack Nicholson impersonation "Wait 'till they get a load of me". It was great, you just had to see it. Unfortunately, I can't find a clip of it on the net.

rsx11s -Thanks for those links. I quite enjoyed hanging out with Kevin Smith for a while... he's also a favourite of mine. I think, as much as I hated the visuals of Tim Burton's Batman, I really hated what he did to the Bat-Lore. Listening to Kevin Smith relate the story about how Tim Burton said "I'd read a comic book, much less than one written by Kevin Smith!"

Ok... now I'm watching Conan O'Brien, and you know, he'd ALSO make a great Joker. Currently, he's chatting with Sue Johanneson... Cat Woman? (not serious. honest). Apparently I watch way too much late night TV.

This week I've pitched both Conan O'Brien and Stephen Colbert as being "perfect" for the role of the Joker... apparently they're now feuding over which one of them "made" Mike Hukkabee. I figure whichever one of them wins a battle of wits or some other death match should get the part...

I had an idea for Batman absolutely ages ago, I think when Michael Keaton was playing him. Keaton as Bruce Wayne was something of a stretch. Keaton as the Dark Knight? Miss-casting to the extreme. Let's say, just for amusement value that James Marsden would make an absolutely perfect Bruce Wayne (I'm quite liking this actor lately, showing diversity in roles from Gossip to X-men and Hairspray). But... maybe he just doesn't have the physical presence to put on the cape. So, we pull a "Darth Vader." James Marsden plays Bruce Wayne, Steven Segal plays Batman; same movie.

You might think it doesn't really matter who's in the suit, because a stunt man does all the tough stuff... but a huge part of the character is the way he moves. Physical presence is what I'm talking about here. A great example of this is Darth Maul from Phantom Menace, he wasn't played by an Actor he was played by a Stunt man.

I have to say I really liked the Batmobile in Batman Begins. It just makes sense to me that it's multi purpose, so it needed to be big to do all the stuff he needed it to, and then have a huge engine to actually be fast enough to chase the bad guys.

It will be difficult to describe how I will feel when I watch this now after the tragic loss of Heath Ledger. I will be at my limits of happiness and sadness when I do watch it and I don't know how I will actually react. All I know now is that it will be an emotional day that I will never forget as long as I live.

Yes. It's always a shame when a talented young person dies. What I'm hearing is that all of his parts have been filmed. His death shouldn't delay the movie, and every scene the Joker is in, will be Heath Ledger's work. I know I've been outspoken about a different actor being better for the part, but I surely didn't have any ill wishes towards him. I was willing to enjoy his performance, but now I really hope it's Oscar worthy. I'm just thinking that if he had known it would be his last film, Raul Julia would have made a different film than Street Fighter.

I think that the Oscar people tend to be a bit snooty when it comes to this kind of movie, which is a shame. Johnny Depp almost broke the taboo on letting a Summer Blockbuster win an Oscar for Capt. Jack Sparrow... but to be honest, one of the very best performances I've seen in any movie was Willem Defoe as Norman Osborne/Green Goblin in Spiderman 2.

What I'm hearing now is that it was most likely accidental, which in a way is good because at least he wasn't in despair... in a way it's bad, because it's a stupid, terrible tragedy.
