Good date ideas in VancouverPage 1 of 2    (1, 2)
Ok! Brainstorm time! I thought it would be a neat idea to have a list of good things to do on a date in the Vancouver area (let's say anywhere from Whistler to Abbotsford?)

So, to start it off...

-go antiquing (two places off the top of my head: Fort Langley & down by New West Quay)
-Vancouver Art Gallery (know any other good galleries? Tell us :) )
-Canoeing (Buntzen Lake in Port Moody, Widgeon Creek in Pitt Meadows, to name a few)
-Friday Night Jazz at Galhagers in NewPort Village

Any more ideas?

For any date (not necessarily a 1st date)

how about:

- HR MacMillan Space Centre (drinks followed my a great laser show!)
- Granville Island (especially on a Spring/Summer Saturday)
- Science World (for the kids at heart)
- Omnimax/Imax show
- Go Kart racing (quite a few around)

Also a picnic in Queen Elizabeth Park. Walking along Granville street checking out all the street vendors .. The Aquarium (a tad over priced though).

Picnics are always good...but I wonder if women like them more than men? (Shannon Falls, just before Squamish is a great place for a picnic BTW).

Some more that I thought of...

-a long walk along the Coquitlam River
-any used bookstore
-the "zoo" out in Cloverdale... which always seems like a good idea, but I always leave feeling disappointed.
-theatre sports (make is part of a day at Granville Island)
-Steveson

any more? I'd love to hear the most creative date

Drive over to the parking lots near Jericho beach. Just before you get into UBC. Just park there at night an watch the North Van city lights or Downtown lights (if you park at an angle) and sit there and talk. Or walk around the beach a bit. Its an easy way to talk because your not worrying about making good eye contact ect.. all the time.

Plus its good clean relaxing fun.

the "zoo" out in Cloverdale... which always seem like a good idea, but I always leave feeling disappointed.

Hmm, I'm feeling rather disappointed myself.... Am I missing out on something here? I've never heard of any zoo in Cloverdale and I've lived there my entire life. By chance, would you be referring to the zoo in Aldergrove? Or am I being silly and "zoo" stands for something else..?

Here's a couple of my ideas:

- Go to a Vancouver Canadians or Giants game
- Wine tasting at a local winery
- Mission Raceway
- Playland or PNE
- Antiquing in Cloverdale (another good spot to go as it's the Antique capital of BC)
- Go to White Rock or Crescent Beach

The zoo in Cloverdale. I think I went there before and a Llamma spat at me. :(

On clear Saturday nights, the UBC geo-sciences building opens the observatory to visitors. There is usually a student volunteer or a professor hanging out to talk about whatever. It's so much more casual than anywhere else, and it's not as well known as the Space Centre.

The lookout point half-way up Cyprus mountain has the million dollar view.

If you love views like I do, then don't forget the Harbour Centre lookout -- it's the building downtown with the red exterior elevators and the round-a-bout lookout up top. If you buy a ticket during the day, have fun around the city, and return with the same ticket for the sunset.

The best spot for sunrise, IMHO, is from Jericho beach, right beside the yacht club. If the time of year is right, the sun will slowly rise from behind the city which will create a perfect silhouette of the downtown core and surrounding mountains. I discovered this spot while pulling an all-nighter designing the lighting for a play at the arts centre, I took a break and experienced one of the most memorable and breathtaking sights I can recount.

There are several farmers markets in the various cities, and Chinatown runs a night-market durring the summer, I believe.

Dr. Sun Yet Sen garden is a fantastic spot to visit. It's inexpensive and you'll find it within the Chinese Cultural Centre in the heart of Chinatown.

Cultural and seasonal events are also a lot of fun if your timing is right. There are Greek festivals, Indo-Canadian festivals, Chinese new year parade, Fort Langley cranberry festifal, halloween pumpkin patch hay rides, lantern parades, etc... sometimes checking a newspaper, or calling a few Chamber's of Commerce/Business Improvement Associations will help you find something.

My favourite thing is to explore the city like a tourist. Book a horse-drawn tour of the city and rediscover cool spots.

The Quay's can be fun, and who could forget Granville Island. Take the seabus, or aquabus just as an excuse to cross the water and see where your feet take you.

Instead of seeing a mainstream theatre production, look for an edgy, off beat, of small-time production, preferably in a small or obscure venue. You'll either see something amazing that will get little exposure, or see utter crap, but you're guaranteed to share an interesting experience that will keep the conversation going afterwards. Theatre-sports, or comedy clubs, are also fantastic. Unlike going to the cinema, these are interactive.

I'd sit on a log and watch the sunset at English Bay every night if I could. When I can't be there in person, I depend on this website: http://www.katkam.ca/

There's so much to do in Vancouver! How I love the city!

Well you could walk down a busy sidewalk in the rain. Wrap your arm around a lamp post while singing. I like going to waterslides in the rain. No ones there so no line ups. Your wet anyway so who cares about the rain.

rainy day ideas?? well a song comes to mind lol

"Pray that it's raining on sunday, storming like crazy. We'll hide under the covers all afternoon."

Ok, ok, that might not work for the date ideas...how about iceskating?? I love to do that, great indoor activity. There is also rock climbing, mini golfing, covered golf driving range, art galleries, bookstores. And this is all in little ol' Abbotsford!!

But don't forget my favorite rainy day date activity!! Puddle Jumping!!!!! As long as both are young at heart and don't mind the rain it can bring lots of laughs for hours hehe. Plus there is no one else out so the whole place is for the 2 of you!!

i can't give up my date ideas...someone might date me! they might see them and think i'm being unoriginal...

suffice to say, there's some amazingly romantic spots to be found for 2nd and 3rd dates all around Vancouver.

first meeting/first date stuff should be pretty tame tho...

A good date could be cruising along the side of the fraser river in a car on Richmonds side. Getting out and sitting by the side of the river drinking smirnoff ices. Eating fried chicken. Then paying a homeless guy to drive us back home.

The biltmore is always housing a good supply of music or events. I like the kitty nights burlesque on sunday's since it's good to get there early and chat for an hour before the show lights up. And it's a great place for a dance after the show; funky music and careless dancing skills. The railway club has some good local music too (sometimes) and a rear area if you want some quieter chatting.

for those who like a beautiful but not too strenuous walk, I recommend Cheam park, specially when there is a thin crust of ice on the water, well, every time I have been here there has been some other remarkable thing about it. Take a picnic lunch though, there are no services of any kind anywhere near, certainly not within walking distance.

Christmas Eve candlelight service at a church ..... hey....why not!

That's where I was heading one night... ..I've invited this POF guy to join me... he was very pleased to be asked, he enjoyed the music. The night was lovely so later we walked down at the pier in West Van after midnight.

okay.. okay..not the most traditional first date idea..but...why not!

I was taken to the illuminaires event
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illuminares
the last time it was at trout lake,
It was just breathtaking, the visuals and performing artists were enchanting.
and the drum bands! what a sensual experience!
and the mummer's band! It was just so inspiring!

I went to the one the next year (there are 2 a year) and it was scaled down because, I think that trout lake wasn't available, but it was still extremely enjoyable. Couldn't go to the one this year, all events are off for me, broke my leg, slow recovery.

If I had to recommend just one event to attend, this would be it. #1 choice.....

I usually go to a Walmart in the dairy section, then maybe a 7-11 to wind things down a bit. They are every where too.

But, seriously, folks...I'm sure it's been mentioned but Light House Park in West Van definitely comes to mind here. If you're coming off Upper Levels, better use a gps unless you're reaaaally good at reading maps. Otherwise stay on marine Drive from Lions Gate for about 10 k. Lots of great trails and unique view points onto Vancouver.
Enormous trees too. More work then a Walmart date fer sure though.
