Posted: 1/1/2008 8:40:13 PM | Hate to have to ask for a translation [always dangerous] for this SECOND email from a lady who initially contacted me. I wrote back to her saying that I was open to further contact to summarize my short reply. The below is her SECOND email, [copied and pasted] in it's entirety.
************I tried to instant message...would you like to chat...***********
AM I an idiot for decoding that to mean that she was asking me if I wanted to TYPE back and forth? Or could those 10 words and 6 DOTS possibly have some deeper meaning? Is it some type of secret code perhaps?

Posted: 1/1/2008 9:24:08 PM | sounds like you two were online at the same time, and she tried the IM feature here on POF, with me sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't, if she tried sending you an IM you should have gotten a box that popped up and had yes/no to accept an IM.
if your browser doesn't allow pop ups sometimes you won't get this box.
so sounded like she tried Instant messaging you and she didn't get a response and got frustrated. Give her your phone number or ask for her and chat on the phone, or see if she uses an IM service like Yahoo or AIM. | |

So if YOU were asking [in an email] someone, male or female if they would like to TALK on the phone, YOU would not mention the words TALK or PHONE or anything about an excahange of numbers?
My amusement from this particular woman was that SHE contacted me and then got mad at me for not realizing all she wanted was to talk and then sent a third "unflattering" email and proceeded to block ME!
I am wondering if these type occurences are what Forrest Gump was talking about when he said that "Life is like a bunch of Chocolates... You never know what you are going to get". | |

i agree with those that said about your im setting. if your im's are not set to accept them or if you choose to ignore that pita box with those 2 plugs connecting and disconnecting when she or anyone else closes the im box on their end it would be sent to your email. there's no harm done there, just make sure your settings are open to accept im's and don't ignore them. | |

1. Go to your Mail Settings
2. Scroll to third line where you fill in the blanks
3. Allow Instant Messages - Choose "yes"
4. Read that page, you can edit several things there.
5. Scroll donw a little more
6. Click Update Mail Settings
7. You can also add her or any other people to your favorites and allow IM's from only favorites so you don't get flustered by too many strange women IM ing you.

on here even if it was for only plutonic asociation.
but it might just be that you are not acustomed to internet lingo or new to pof and are not aware that the im does not always work or as another poster stated that your settings are not proper (hell i did not even know about settings..lol).
personally i perceice from her mail that, she tried to im you, and her know ing that the im on pof does not always work (not to mention taking a chance of being rejected,no definement towards you or anything) she mailed you to make contact, it would appear that she found you interesting enough to go the extra mile to try to make contact and converse with you.
just make sure even if only out of consideration for others in general you should reply to any messages out of sheer respect,curtosy.
unless she looks like your ex, and/or not wearing any cloaths...lol | |

Big deal. If she has to block you because you haven't gotten the hang of the IM windows on this site then I'd say you dodged a bullet for having to deal with a woman who has no compassion and no patience for the technically uneducated.
I have used chat windows on 3 other sites and this one is the most cumbersome of all of them.
When I order xrays for my doc and I need to add a note for the tech to 'pay close attention to' I'll use astricks. **** thin cuts **** (etc). I use the... for pause because I'm not overly fond of grammer or trying to figure out if I have to use a period, a colon or a semi colon.
I like to think that WHAT I say is far more important than whether or not it's properly punctuated (my apologies to those of you overly fond of proper punctuation) | |
