DIY or ask a man to help?

I can do most jobs around the house, decorating ,electrics even plastering etc....ive found its easier to just get on and do it, cheaper too.

My mate reckons ime stupid and should play helpless as men like to feel masterful and show off their skills and i could just make the tea.

Now, as I need some minor work done, ime undecided whether to try n play daft and ask for help or get on with it myself.

depends as you say if you are capable why go through the hassle of having to explain what you want and how you want it done ?

So you will indirectly be paying for a shag?

I'm hopeless at DIY and can usually find someone to do my odd jobs although as I'm in rented accomodation its usually the landlord who fixe things.
Now what I really need is someone I can call in the middle of the night to get that spider off my bedroom wall.

why ask a man to do something you are perfectly capable of doing yourself? After explaining what it is you want doing you will eventually find that he hasn't done it as good as you would have any way. Save yourself the hassle. Besides it's very satisfying to stand back and say I did that myself.

O.p i'd rather do it myself..

1. i know it will get done
2. it will save me wasting my time/energy on asking
3. i know i can do it without a debate..

the list is endless :-)

If I can do it , I do it...But if I cant I will ask for help...Whats the point of starting something if you know your gonna fook it up and have to get someone else to do it anyway..

As my mum would say, "just throwing good money after bad"..

I think that women can do the same things as men, i personly have built a house from scratch with my father out in spain i learn to brick lay, electrics, plumming, plastering, rendering and may more things, so when people say women can't do what men do i disagree, so no if you can do it then don't ask a man for help because i think they should try and do what women do because everyone is equal.

I agree, there's nothing worse than all that 'left a bit, right a bit, faster, slower' nonsense. Far easier to do it yourself.

I would use my brother as he is a sparky, chippy and my personal fix that over there slave.
Being the oldest i get to boss him around as long as i pay him with cups of teas.
Love him i do!

If you can do a job then do it, when you can't ask somone who can!, Why has it got to be a man or woman job ? some women are very adept at doing anything, some men are hopless at doing anything, roles are not dependent on gender!

I love DIY so if I can do the job, then I will, so OP, I would say go and get on with it.... just give yourself enough time to complete it and don't rush it......... after all, isn't that what a man would do...........!

If I need a job doing that is beyond my expertise (ahem - not often) then I am not adverse to calling in the experts..............I've unblocked gutters on the roof, while my son held the ladder, built a bar-b-q, replaced washers and light switches, next I am going to try brain surgery.......................

well i dont think DIY is exclusive to any gender. I always worked on the principle of how hard could it be and have the determination to learn to do most things myself.

if i cant do something id ask for help....from one of my sisters..if they couldnt then anyone else..regardless of gender.

...as to payment..well nothing is free ;)

Its my sisters house , she's not great at fitting doors........

Ime off to B&Q and Wilkos.......... I think ile tackle it myself as per....saves alot of hassle.

The mate who thinks ime stupid to has asked me to do a few jobs for her in the past , so perhaps ile suggest she learns a few DIY tricks .

women are just as capable as men at anything they put their mind to, except maybe peeing standing up and scratching their balls. you don't need a 400 quid hilti hammer drill or expensive cross cut circular saws (like i own, hee hee) to do a simple home job. go to somewhere like argos and buy a cheap set of power tools, e.g a drill driver, a jigsaw, and a sander, for about 50 quid. also a set of hand tools in a plastic case, about 10-15 quid, then you're set to tackle most diy jobs. take you're time, and think the job through before you start. don't forget you can google any home diy job that you need to do and read up on it first

DIY or ask a man to help?
I prefer to do my own DIY rather than pretend to be helpless and daft so that a man will come over and help me.
