A little bit about the North Fork River: Missouri's North Fork of the White River
The North Fork of the White combines a relatively constant flow of clear water from large springs with some of the best whitewater in the Missouri Ozarks. Since its upper reaches are in Mark Twain National Forest, it retains some wilderness character and has good watershed protection. The section from Hwy. 14 to Hwy. H is near-wilderness and includes some fine stands of short-leaf pine as well as several large springs. Old mills and a number of National Forest recreation areas enhance the attractiveness of the area for vacationers. Indeed, this river has high-quality recreation value equal to any in the Ozarks.
The river is almost always floatable from Dora down to Norfork Reservoir. Although the gradient of the lower sections is not spectacular, the volume is good and this produces some fairly sporty rifts.

| St Louis and all POF's Float trip Posted: 1/8/2008 1:31:29 AM | I know thats its a bit of a drive but its not as far as you think its a eazy 2 and a halve to 3 hours.I choise the north fork because its a beautiful river. And it don't get crouded like the Meremec will. Its all so about halve way from St.Lou and Springfield and for the poffers in KC.The float trip is not just for us in St.lou but for all the Missouri poffers.Beside the North Fork river is a clean clear river that starts off for the first 3 quarters of the river is in Mark Twainn Forest. | |

| St Louis and all POF's Float trip Posted: 1/8/2008 8:50:04 AM | | I have to agree with Ambie, that's too far down there for me as well. The drive down there isn't that bad, it's coming back on Sunday after being on the river all day the day Saturday and possibly being hung over. I will wait till we can get a float up closer to St Louis. | |

| St Louis and all POF's Float trip Posted: 1/9/2008 1:00:20 AM | Hey Pdog I don't think there will be a problem for the non exp.paddlers from twin bridge's down to blair bridge,But the upper reach's down to twin bridge's now that is a differant story LOL but its not a true white water river its only a class 1 river its no harder than running the current. | |
| St Louis and all POF's Float trip Posted: 1/11/2008 9:56:02 AM | IT IS A LITTLE MORE DIFFICULT THAN THE CURRENT BECAUSE OF SOLID UNDERWATER ROCK FORMATIONS. BUT IS A GREAT FLOAT. MAYBE WE COULD DO ANOTHER ON THE HUZZA FOR ALL THOSE THAT WANT ONE CLOSER TO ST. LOUIE. THE HUZZA VALLEY CAMP GROUND HAS SPECIAL ACCOMADATIONS FOR GROUPS. | |
| St Louis and all POF's Float trip Posted: 1/11/2008 9:58:53 AM | I MEANT ANOTHER / DIFFERENT ONE; ON THE HUZZA. NOT REPLACE THE PLANNED ONE. I NEED TO BE A LITTLE MORE CLEAR ON MY THOUGHTS. | |

| St Louis and all POF's Float trip Posted: 1/12/2008 9:01:26 AM | | I always liked the fact they take you upriver and you float back to the camp. Can take your time that way and swim, or drink more beer, lol. Last time I was there was with a group from Singles in Agriculture and we had a lot of first timers. Everyone enjoyed it and we didn't lose anyone, lol. I am wondering if they have antertainment in the bar again. They used to, years ago. | |
| St Louis and all POF's Float trip Posted: 1/12/2008 1:00:11 PM | I was there two years ago over the memorial Day weekend and they had 3 bands over the weekend a country band friday night a rock band Saturday night and a Blue grass band Sunday night.I like that upper section down to Indain Springs it's a bit more tect than the part down to Hwy 8. | |
| St Louis and all POF's Float trip Posted: 1/17/2008 9:54:38 PM | | I would love to do a float trip! Used to go on them all the time but have to agree w/theresa and a few others that I would rather go to one that is a bit closer. The drive back is a killer not to mention the next day being a work day. | |
| St Louis and all POF's Float trip Posted: 1/18/2008 12:37:58 AM | Sorry sunnie that its a drive but its a wonderful river to float it has all the lazy sections for relaxing and just floating and it has all the tect sections for folks like me and others that like to splish splash thru the white water. But I will do another float later on in the summer closer to St.Lou for all the ones that don't want to do a 3 hour drive OK Alpine (AKA Bryon) | |
