| | Should We Be Able To Boo If We Want Too?...Page 1 of 1 | I've noticed in the last couple of years at football matches,Big Brother on C4 and now even on the darts on TV the crowd booing and jeering the contestants..
I can understand Cristiano Ronaldo being booed at as he's just a cheating diver when he plays for Man Utd and Portugal and tries to con the referees all the time.. But booing contestants when they leave the BB house or darts players I don't get!!
Should we be able too boo if we want to if we don't like how our team has played or if a ref has made a poor decision or do you think its not a big deal and acceptable?
PS..If my thread is rubbish feel free to boo if you wish and I promise not to get upset!!

As long as its only booing though now and its done in jest and I wouldn't if I thought the booee thought is was anything more than theater antics.

| Should We Be Able To Boo If We Want Too?... Posted: 1/8/2008 5:47:03 AM | Well for me, BB contestants know what they're signing up for, are all attention whores, and get what they deserve! The darts however, I was surprised to hear about that to be honest.
As for the football, which I have most experience of, it all depends. Do you mean boo, jeer and barrack the opposition? Hell yes! Thats the whole reason why away fixtures are harder. I'll never forget the treatment Joey Barton got at the Hawthorns just after his brother got sent down. His eventual losing of the plot, along with his team mates, and our winning of the game was particularly satisfying! And ref's deserve all they get for a bad game, but also they should be praised when they get it right.
Booing your own players? I've seen too much of that at West Brom in the past and hated it. OK, these players are highly paid, but, everyone can have bad days at the office. But the fans should rally behind both players and the club as a whole during difficult times. Its not something I'd like to witness again thats for sure. But for now, with us riding high and scoring more goals than any other team, its mainly just joy, joy to be a baggie!

However maybe if more of it was done at football matches, it would release tension ,and possibly stop them kicking the sh1t out of each other after the match..

| Should We Be Able To Boo If We Want Too?... Posted: 1/8/2008 6:40:57 AM | I am, as in most things, torn in two over this. I can see the need to boo for a good reason, the way footballers act like girls (more than normal) and pretend to be hurt, or a dirty tackle. But I also cringe when I watch my fave sport MMA, and people start booing because their picked man lost, or because the opponent is foreign, or for some othert slack reason. I think it's embarrassing. I have only ever mock booed at wrestling events to get into the spirit of the atmos. As for the the BB thing, I don't get it, the people that go into the house are attention whores, and the people that hang around aside are so devoid of life they need to hang around a house waiting for attention whores to come out to boo....not sure what to think aboot that, they deserve each other prolly. | |

| Should We Be Able To Boo If We Want Too?... Posted: 1/8/2008 10:58:15 AM | I was surprised to see booing at the darts the other night - I thought darts fans had respect for the opponents of their heroes , but apparently not anymore !
I have only heard one of our own players booed at City in the last few years, cost a million and was complete crap - couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo ( OK , two - L'Oreal has been booed off before also , and he is crap as well !!)
But I DO remember a ref years ago , Clive Thomas, who was actually given a standing ovation by The Kop in Liverpool on his last game before retiring - still not sure if it was in respect for his refereeing , or sheer relief that he had finally gone !!
Booing is fine at football, all part of the game , as is heckling , but the trend for sheer vitriolic verbal abuse spat with hatred towards opposing managers and players is not on - I can understand Cantona's response ....

| Should We Be Able To Boo If We Want Too?... Posted: 1/8/2008 4:11:28 PM | ^^^ you left out the important bit written in bold :
NB: Pointers seven to ten are negotiable, the rest are NOT I haven't had cause to boo recently but now that I am a fully fledged adult I tend to show my frustration at foul play or losing by grunting and banging my hand off my knee then I might groan.

| Should We Be Able To Boo If We Want Too?... Posted: 1/8/2008 4:20:33 PM | It depends on the sporting occasion. I don't think that booing during a snooker or darts match is appropriate, but it is certainly fine at football and rugby matches.
I generally only boo the opposition is they are a bunch of cheats. If my team are playing badly, then I'll boo them.
Booing BB contestants should be an Olympic sport!
