| Cost-saving suggestions for a wedding reception? Posted: 1/10/2008 11:32:43 AM | Friends of mine are planning a wedding for later this year.
Funds are tight for this couple, and they are looking for ideas on how to plan a simple but memorable wedding on a budget of $1000 to $1500. They will have an outdoor reception for about 50 people.
Does anyone have suggestions for them? Thanks!

| Cost-saving suggestions for a wedding reception? Posted: 1/10/2008 11:49:50 AM | | I went to the most fun wedding this summer and it was a hillbilly wedding. They had a cookout. Men paid to dance with the Bride and Women paid to dance with the Groom. They had tons of food everyone brought a favorite dish. I have been to many formal wedding that were high class. This was the most fun I have ever had. Their friends played music and everyone danced including small children. They made everyone feel right at home and it will be a wedding that I will never forget.......Good luck to your friends........... | |

Get an arty friend to do invitations. Borrow where possible. The biggest dip of the money goes to catering for the day do, go somewhere you know, do you have any connections, have friends who do? Key is to not be too fussy about what you want and have alot of make do's. My mum did all this with her recent wedding and it worked sooo well, was a brilliant wedding. Remember, the more proffessionals the more the cost :D hope your friends have an amazing day

Many can "cater" (meaning they make up the trays, cake, salad, etc and you just pick them up and set them out). It's not usually very expensive.
Tables and chairs can be borrowed from some schools, churches, or civic centers.
Check Michael's or Hobby Lobby type stores for pretty decorations.

Don't let the bride get suckered in by the modern notion offered by bridal supply people: this is HER day therefore if she isn't getting everything she would have liked and feeling like a princess she is being robbed of an inherent right.
It's about the pleasure of the guests experiencing this special moment with both of them. Many churches have Women's Auxiliaries that can make up some nice trays of sandwiches and squares (really yummy ones because these are usually homemade oldtime recipes) for a very low cost.
Doesn't mean you have to eat it all in the Church basement but it might take care of preparing the bulk of the food. As long as someone in the family is a member of the Church it's pretty easy to arrange even if the wedding isn't being held there. Add a few salads and such that friends offer to make and it's fine.
If there's drinkers to consider there's always someone who can take on the job of planning that element of the reception. Flowers can come from a friend or relative's garden and smell just as sweet.
Keeping it simple doesn't mean it will be shabby -- sometimes less is more. Just make sure there's an alternative to completely outside in case of a rainout. I'd go with a friend or family member's house or cottage.

Some relatively distant female relatives or family friends cook a nice meal when a couple and their close family and friends attending a formal wedding. After the wedding is over they have a nice dinner prepared from a scratch by a group of those volunteering females.

The sponsor would pay for the event and in return there would be signage on site and the couple would agree to appear in print ads and in local media spots, in an ad campaign following their progress as they skirt the pitfalls of impoverished matrimony.

My sister made favours out of plastic pop bottles cut in half. She filled the neck part with jelly beans, glued the wideer part upside down to the bottom, wrapped it all in plastic wrap & tied it at the neck with ribbon.
Sounds tacky, but they were really very pretty and hardly anyone knew how they were made.
