Just opinions (and one minor phrase needed)
Posted: 1/13/2008 2:45:23 PM
My profile has gone through a few incarnations but I now think I have it in such a way that people who read it should know exactly what I am and am not looking for. I would like some general comments about how you would perceive me if you read it. There are specific reasons why I've written it the way I have but some might take it another way.

Also, I'm looking for a phrase or sentence which says something to the effect, "If you can't keep a date. . ." or "If you're always late. . ." without it sounding like I'm a taskmaster trying to keep to a schedule.

"general comments about how you would perceive me if you read it."

If I were looking, I'd never have read it all, honestly. Your headline and first sentence are flat out negative and negative just doesn't work so I'd have clicked off. That's just me, there may be others who are drawn to negativism so maybe they'd think it was great.

Sorry.. I'd perceive you to be an utter jerk, and a rather boring one at that. Major clickage would ensue even tho Im sure you're really nice guy etc..

One chance is all you get here OP.. I wouldnt go throwing up obstacles right off the bat just cos I could... ya know?

Life is just too short for that

4) If you use phrases such as "Living life to its fullest" or "Life is too short", don't bother

3) Quality over Quantity

I love the irony in this.

Unfortunately, despite your several Important Announcements on the subject of humour, that was the only remotely funny thing in your profile. And I'm pretty sure it wasn't intentional...

Well, wow. Just wow.
OP, you insinuate that you aren't looking to meet someone, and I think your profile will certainly help you attain that goal.
Sorry, but I agree that your profile is too negative. My impression of you upon reading it is that you seem to be an arrogant jerk, with far too high an opinion of yourself. You seem smug and self-absorbed.
Honestly, I know this is mean, and I normally am not mean at all, but as I read your profile I thought to myself that you seem awfully demanding and picky for a short guy. Like I said, I know that is mean, and I honestly date men your height, but it is pretty common knowledge that men under about 5'9" have fewer options, as women tend to like tall men. So it would seem that you should at least be a bit more discrete about how picky you appear to be.
I can't think of any reason a woman would contact you upon reading your profile.

OP: When I read your profile three very small words came to mind immediately: "Jerk....Don't ...and Bother". In fact, normally I wouldn't have read pass the first line because of it's immediate negative impression. I think it is safe to say by reading the other posters here that more than "some" might take it the wrong way. I know you think you just have a sarcastic sense of humour...but really that's not sarcasm, that's just negative. I don't think you'll get far with this profile. And I'm more than sure your not trying to come off sounding harsh and ridiculous...but I'd re-vamp it if I were you. If you need help I'd be more than happy to lend you a hand.

how about "punctuality is the courtesy of kings (and queens as well)". does that work?

you're welcome.

Thanks ladies, that's exactly the response I was looking for. Yes, the profile might seem like I'm a jerk (I'm not, honest) or someone who thinks more of himself than is deserved (maybe at times but don't we all?), but as I said, there is a very specific reason it is written the way it is. Without going into details, all I will say is it's an experiment.

Stay tuned for next month's incarnation!

And pbear511, thanks for the help. That's pretty close to what I'm looking for. Something along those lines but maybe worded differently.

Gee thanks for the invite, I'll pass. People who write profiles to go on dating sites for an "experiment" well...I have better things to do. Like watch paint dry.
