With legs to take me, where I go with eyes to see the sunset's glow With ears to hear what I would know Oh, GOD, forgive me when I whine! I'm blessed indeed! the world is mine

| DIVINE POEMS Posted: 1/18/2008 11:58:35 AM | My body is flooded With the flame of Love. My soul lives in A furnace of bliss.
Love's fragrance Fills my mouth, And fans through all things With each outbreath.
The Lord is in me, and the Lord is in you, As life is hidden in every seed. So rubble your pride, my friend, And look for Him within you.
When I sit in the heart of His world A million suns blaze with light, A burning blue sea spreads across the sky, Life's turmoil falls quiet, All the stains of suffering wash away.
Listen to the unstruck bells and drums! Love is here; plunge into its rapture! Rains pour down without water; Rivers are streams of light.
How could I ever express How blessed I feel To revel in such vast ecstasy In my own body?
This is the music Of soul and soul meeting. Of the forgetting of all grief. This is the music That transcends all coming and going.

We do not get a human life Just for the asking. Birth in a human body Is the reward for good deeds In former births.
Life waxes and wanes imperceptibly, It does not stay long. The leaf that has once fallen Does not return to the branch. Behold the Ocean of Transmigration.
With its swift, irresistible tide. O Lal Giridhara, O pilot of my soul, Swiftly conduct my barque to the further shore. Mira is the slave of Lal Giridhara (God). She says: Life lasts but a few days only.

| DIVINE POEMS Posted: 1/19/2008 10:23:41 AM | Do accept me this time, Lord, do. Please, Do not turn away. Steal my heart and stay. I don't wish to repeat those day devoid of you, Let them finish in dust. Let my life now open up in light, forever awake and alert.
I do not know what deluded me, and what promises lured me, that i moved around here and there on roads, amidst meadows. Now bring your face close to my heart and deliver a message, your own.
Many faults, many a deception still lurk secretly in my heart. Do not turn me away any more for that. Lord purify them in your fire.

| DIVINE POEMS Posted: 1/20/2008 2:11:46 PM | He whose devotion is for making money, what knowledge can he gain.
He is meditating with his mind full of lust, how God can reside in his mind.
He keeps his eyes on fruits of work, can he ever be united with the God.
His mind is always engrossed with sensual subjects, whether he can understand the God.
Tukaram Maharaj says, that those who remember God with such motives will burn their faces.

| DIVINE POEMS Posted: 1/22/2008 6:57:40 PM | O' how may I even express that secret word? O' How can I say HE is not like this and He is like that? If I say that He is within me, the universe is ashamed, If I say that He is without me, it is falsehood. He makes the inner and outer worlds to be indivibily one, The conscious and the unconscious both are his footstools. He is neither manifest nor hidden. He is neither revealed nor unrevealed. There are no words to tell that which He is. | |

| DIVINE POEMS Posted: 1/22/2008 8:15:27 PM | A Star Without a Name - Rumi
When a baby is taken from the wet nurse,
it easily forgets her
and starts eating solid food.
Seeds feed awhile on ground,
then lift up into the sun.
So you should taste the filtered light
and work your way toward wisdom
with no personal covering.
That's how you came here, like a star
without a name. Move across the night sky
with those anonymous lights.

Guide this little boat over the waters, what can I give you for fare? Our mutable world holds nothing but grief, bear me away from it. Eight bonds of karma have gripped me, the whole of creation swirls through eight million wombs, through eight million birth-forms we flicker. Mira cries. Dark One take this little boat to the far shore, put an end to coming and going.

| DIVINE POEMS Posted: 1/25/2008 4:08:56 PM | Who is thy wife? Who is thy son? The ways of this world are strange indeed. Whose are thou? Whence art thou come? Vast is thy ignorance, my beloved. Therefore ponder these things and worship the Lord.
Behold the folly of Man: In childhood busy with his toys, In youth bewitched by love, In age bowed down with cares -- And always unmindful of the Lord! The hours fly, the seasons roll, life ebbs, But the breeze of hope blows continually in his heart.
Birth brings death, death brings rebirth: This evil needs no proof. Where then O Man, is thy happiness? This life trembles in the balance Like water on a lotus-leaf -- And yet the sage can show us, in an instant, How to bridge this sea of change.
When the body is wrinkled, when the hair turns gray, When the gums are toothless, and the old man's staff Shakes like a reed beneath his weight, The cup of his desire is still full.
Thy son may bring thee suffering, Thy wealth is no assurance of heaven: Therefore be not vain of thy wealth, Or of thy family, or of thy youth -- All are fleeting, all must change. Know this and be free. Enter the joy of the Lord.
Seek neither peace nor strife With kith or kin, with friend or foe. O beloved, if thou would attain freedom, be equal unto all.

| DIVINE POEMS Posted: 1/25/2008 4:20:40 PM | God... Posted: 1/25/2008 3 06 PM Tell me of something and let truth have it's way as does our free will, each one, everyday!
Let only the wishes be the might of your choice be that of the outcome, the words of your voice
Is it intruding, to seek and to try? or just an illusion to trust or deny?
Can be the outcome of the cares which we send be only left barren by our hearts which contend
To the past which is rigid and cannot be trained or that of the present to the answers so stained
Has tomorrow an outcome of a union to quest or is time just her keeper and lets hope do the rest...
Time taints us with meeting, then thrashes us all It forces our risings, and repeats when we fall
There's nothing to stop it, no one it will miss it's aim is precision, it's truth is just this
No force cares to challenge, no war can be brought against of its essence since by you it was thought
So can we be closer with your time still in place to seek with an earnest in a world we must face
Each day without failure the truth reaches out within it comes longing to avoid all the doubt
But within all the choices and beside all the gripe comes something you gave us, her tears we all wipe
Away from the trauma she hides deep within the answers we search for and where to begin
It vessels a chamber, no windows in sight her tempest of choices, goes both wrong or right
Wisdom, oh wisdom she bites at the bit Her reigns be of fire as our mouths try to fit
To word what is needed to ask unto you asks whispering spirits what we ask you'll renew
Unto shadows of knowledge that are cast out like grain towards the fields of the living and to death's final plain
Amen | |

| DIVINE POEMS Posted: 1/26/2008 2:04:16 PM | | Do you accept poems concerning theology, which may be somewhat more negative? IE - questioning God? | |
|
| DIVINE POEMS Posted: 1/26/2008 2:22:48 PM | | You are most welcome to contribute your/some other 's poems, which you feel other should know/read. There are different types of reader in this forum and their interest are different....certainly a few/whole may like your. As per my understanding, theology never questions God. Atheist only questions about God and denies the existence of God. I personally prefer positive surroundings but not afraid on my faith on God. | |
|
| DIVINE POEMS Posted: 1/26/2008 2:31:40 PM | Theology never questions God, true... But don't theologically inclined people do it all the time? How many faithful have had something abd happen to them, and been left questioning God afterwards? Questioning whether their faith was worth it? Read a book like Elie Wiesel's "Night" and you'll see a prime example of a man of faith who lost it in the face of the events of the Holocaust.
I'd say it's imperative for the faithful to question their faith, to keep it strong. I am not a man of faith, but I do have a deep seated respect for it, and admire it, and I honestly wish those who have it to have it truly - because it is a beautiful thing. Some of us, though we may admire faith, can't take Kierkegaard's leap of faith to establish a relationship with God. We're just not wired that way, or just haven't been pushed the right ways yet.
So, I'll just pose it again in light of what I've said... Would poems questioning God be all right as well? I'd rather not put a damper on the thread if this is to be purely pro-faith, because I've written at least one poem which questions God.
|
| DIVINE POEMS Posted: 1/26/2008 2:36:37 PM | Actually, you've sort of given me the go-ahead, so I'll post.
Talking to God
Deus Absconditus, where are you? I tried to speak to you today and I regret That though the things I had to say were few The things you had to say were fewer yet - I ask you, what’s this silence to beget?
Silence does not suit well mortal ears And really ‘tis a heavy weight to bear So I tell myself at times about my fears To make it sound like someone else is there And wonder if you even really care.
I cannot love the absence that you bring So I question if divinity is true, And if it is, remind myself one thing - That every god was once a devil too, And may be once again, in time, for you.
|
| DIVINE POEMS Posted: 1/26/2008 2:45:53 PM | | Sure, they do questions and thatswhy I said.....you are most welcome to contribute your opinions/experiences/feelings. It is difficult to say whether all the time theologically inclined people do questions God afterwards (certainly there are a few)....if they do, it does indicate they were not totally clear in their learning and understanding. | |
|
| DIVINE POEMS Posted: 1/26/2008 3:00:37 PM | You're right, it is difficult to say whether theologically oriented people do question faith all the time... But there is ample evidence that a great number of people have qeustioned their faith, and it's doubtful that has stopped.
And, does it necessarily indicate that they weren't clear in their learnings? There are people who studied the Bible for decades, only to have their faith shattered by a certain event in their life. Devout people who were guided by the living word most of their lives... Isn't it hubris, to some degree, to assume that any person who ever questioned their faith just didn't understand the word of God? And that the faith that you have is that much more informed?
|
| DIVINE POEMS Posted: 1/26/2008 7:08:14 PM | The number of theological people, who change their faith after certain event is very small. It is because the event grow bigger and that particular person remain smaller. Therefore wise persons use their skill and knowledge to grow over the events. And secondly, reading the Bible or Gita or Quran is futile, without sincerity and devotion towards it.
Certainly we all have our own understanding towards God. I did not question on other's understanding....Moreover, I do believe that most of the atheist also believe the existence of God.
About the faith...all have different faith as per their own understandings and the experiences from their own life. A killer and a doctor both use same knife in their respective faith and the way they were informed or tought.
|
| DIVINE POEMS Posted: 1/27/2008 12:51:46 AM | | You know, I could go and start a theological debate here, but this is a thread about poetry, and I've already said my piece. I've enjoyed reading the poems others have posted, and I hope to see more show up here! Thanks for letting me in ;) | |

| DIVINE POEMS Posted: 1/27/2008 3:11:54 PM | Lord, send me staggering with the wine Of Your love! Ring my feet With the chains of Your slavery! Empty me of everything but Your love And in it destroy and resurrect me! Any hunger You awaken Can only end in Feast!

| DIVINE POEMS Posted: 1/28/2008 4:03:18 PM | Dear friend, turn to Allah. This body shall become dust in the miserable, dark house of the grave.
Today is the day of union, O Sheikh Farid, so tame these wild cranes of desire that inflame and incite the heart.
We all know that we shall die and never again return. Then why do we love this false world and sell ourselves?
We must ever speak of the true path; let us not speak lies. Let us walk the guru's (teacher's) course like humble disciples.
Seeing strong, handsome youths swim across to the other side, a weak woman takes heart. Those who pursue only gold should be sawn in half.
O Sheikh, no one in this world can stay alive forever. The place upon which I now sit, many have sat before and gone on their way.
Cranes come to Katak, forest fires in Chet (summer), lightning in Savan (rains). In winter, fair arms of women adorn lovers' necks.
All ephemeral things pass on. Think of this, O heart. That which takes six months to form is destroyed in an instant.
The earth asks the sky, O Farid: how many boatmen have come and gone? The body merely rots in the grave, but it is the soul that must suffer the consequences.
