Question for those who are non-americans/in their 40s+
Posted: 1/21/2008 2:03:58 PM
So, I recently rotated my image out for one that was less of a head shot for more of an upper torso. Before I did such, I looked at the demographics of the image rating system, and have found that most of the women who have rated me a 10 are either in their 40s or above, and/or are outside the USA, a good number being in Canada and England. Additionally, I noticed the lower the age was, the rating fell as well. I was rating around an 8 with the 40+ age range, but was at about a 5 with the women closer to my age category. As such, I pose the following three questions:

1. Are American women in their in their mid-thirties and younger exceedingly shallow when it comes to their men?

2. Do non-American women in their 40s+ have lower standards when looking at pictures? and

3. Am I in the wrong country when it comes to dating?

Actually, I think I answered that last one myself. In that case, the first two questions.

Are American men under 25 more likely to chose the most negative scenario when interpretting random results on the internet?

Well, that was kind of a snap on me. Thank you for putting a little more perspective on it. Even so, I would like to think there is something in relation to this. I had recieved close to 200 votes (granted, not the best drawing pool, but enough to get a little perspective on it). As is, I would like to think I left my questions fairly open-ended, as I am just trying to figure out what the deal is.

Edit: Also, I've noticed that most of the profiles of women in my area that I've read are also two, maybe three sentences, and while I do like a relatively brief description, I'm found foreign womens' profiles more worth reading. Nice profile, by the way.

First of all who gives so much serious thought to these ratings. They are just lame to say the least. What you should be worried about is are you being contacted by women of quality.
I won't bash you however, I like non American men myself. I havent dated an American man in a year.

I click on it sometimes by mistake.
Wherever my cursor lies at picture number one stays there..I can't be bothered to move it.
I see a few pics when I'm on phone call..and just press the enter key..to keep my finger busy.
Don't take these things in any seriousness at all.

2. Do non-American women in their 40s+ have lower standards when looking at pictures?

Um ... the perceptions of appearances are a matter of taste, so there can hardly be any "lower" standards outside the U.S., but maybe there are *different* standards - if there are any standards at all.

From my personal experience, however, U.S. women tend to be more gentle when it comes to judging a man's looks. About 90 percent of the men that my female U.S. friends find "gorgeous" I would rate somewhere between "mediocre" and "ugly". Actually, I find that many U.S. women are willingly rating any man "good looking" that's not disgustingly obese. Well, I am European, and I am not that gentle when it comes to rating looks ... (I don't "rate" other members' profile pictures on PoF, though, and find that a completely dispensable feature).

Hmm... All the last posts do have a valid point. However, it may influence how often I go overseas once I graduate and find a steady job (*winking in a non-lecherous way, if such a thing is possible*)

Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy women from overseas/out of country, but mainly for the fact that they have different opinions about items of interest (lifestyles, culture, *stretches selection of topics* politics *cough, cough*) and aren't so damned shallow. I've met cracker-jack boxes that have more personality.

Ugh... Still feel dirty mentioning the "P" word.

As for serious thought, I was just wondering if anyone could relate. If it was a common occurance, then I wouldn't worry so much. Mostly what worries me is the margin of difference I mentioned before. I was starting to wonder if I should just dig out my swimming trunks and take up a job as an international pool boy. (j/k)

As for multiple errors in the rating system, it's possible. Frankly, I was just kind of curious is someone had a similiar tale or coincidence. As is, I think its comical that most men who do the rating as well rate me a 1. Granted, I'm not the best-looking guy, but a far cry from the worst. At least, thats my own opinion. But, I'll leave that to the voters to decide.

Just kind of curious about the demographics of that is all.

*Laughing on the opposite side of the keyboard*

I understand the lipstick reference.

As for the photo, like I said earlier, I swapped it out for a new one. That's how my last one started. As such, the voting count reset.
