If you were mentally ill would you join a dating site for the mentally ill over meeting "normal" people? I don't know about others but i rather date someone who goes through the same thing as me rather than having the issues of finding someone to accept the issue. How are your feelings towards this since many seem to run away from anyone who isn't "normal"? | |

Actually, the answer is the same as with STD dating : it depends on the illness you have, there is no uniform answer. | |

Posted: 1/22/2008 7:02:55 AM | I think we all are mentally ill in some way..to some degree ...some people suffer from insanity ...I enjoy every minute of it .....the ones that i feel sorry for are the ones with delusions of sanity.... my imaginary friends are nicer than my real ones ...real friend ...now theres an oxymoron... or getting that way
this is sad if pof is the only thing available to the mentally ill.

Posted: 1/22/2008 7:23:36 AM | Not here to Flame but if you feel your mental illness isn't good enough to have a profile on POF or need a special site for mental illness then you don't need to be dating until you get help for your Illness. Plus I would think you need to find your opposite other the your Same. As you know Opposites attract Likes sides repel (Magnets)
A Support group is probably best for you because they will teach you how to live and cope with your illness and possibly Date. Dating isn't easy and when you add in a Mental Illness it makes it tougher.
I once dated a woman who had a Mental Illness and I gave her every chance but one day she flipped out and destroyed my House throwing things around. So to say I no longer seen her after that day.

Illness, mental or physical, is not something a person would willingly choose. There is no personal choice involved.
You, on the other hand, do have a choice of character. I'm interested in why you would choose to be blatantly insensitive? | |

i hear ya on that. i gave up dating cause i always meet the people i can't stand so i'm gonna wait till someone comes in my life with the same problem or if i can meet someone who has one so theres no confusion when one of us is having a "moment". i've had relationships in the past with ppl who had issues and we got along great and those were the most understanding relationships i ever had. i want one of those again. | |

Posted: 1/22/2008 8:22:31 AM | Good luck. Nobody is mentally and emotionally stable. What you are asking for is someone who is 100% perfect within the mind. That is impossible and complete non-sense. IMO, there is no such thing as the mentally ill unless they are truly sick puppies or have the IQ of a 5 year old. People are just people. Technically, I have aspergers... does it make me violent? No, quite the opposite. Does it lower my IQ? No, quite the opposite. Does it reduce my social skills? Why yes, I suppose it does. But I am a nice, excentric, intelligent person who cares alot for other people. And whats sad, is that people have such a bad stigma when someone claims they are mentally ill... They automatically think of the worst case scenerio.

Firstly define 'normal'. If they don't accept you the way you are and what you are...move unto the next one.
