Tonight's lottery is a triple roll-over and the jackpot stands at £18,000,000.

There are those, such as premiership footballers, moviestars, popstars etc who are used to that that kind of money, but for normal everyday folks, to suddenly have that kind of money is almost unimaginable.

So should the maximum amount winnable be capped?

This is the final rollover, if it doesn't get won tonight then I think it all gets donated to charity, so no I do not think it should be capped. I am going to put a fiver on it today, usually only put 2 quid on. There will be that many people playing tonight, I bet the jackpot gets shared about 3/4 ways. Probably better that someone wins about 6 million, rather than the full 18 million.

Even if I was the sole winner tonight, I would still post on this forum, though probably not as often?

Personally, I think there was some dodgy dealings going on when Camelot won their 2nd franchise. I wanted R Branson to take it.
If given the choice...what would you have? The chance to win 18million possibly never (more chance of lightening strike), or the chance of getting 3 balls and mabbe winning 1000 pounds? If the top prizes were capped, there would be more money for the lesser prizes, does anybody else think getting £0 or less for 4 balls is pretty poor? I do.

There not daft, they know the higher the winnings then those who dont usually play the lottery are tempted to play. Like me , I dont usually play but today I will..

And if I win 18 Million, my family will a bigger share then if I only won 1 Million..

I would still post on the forums, But get my butler to do it..

I'm quite sure I would cope if my numbers came up however big the win was...
Were not living in a Communist state yet where all things should be equal for all...

I wonder if women would only want me for my money though or for my good looks!
If nobody see's me for a couple of months don't worry everyone I'll be in Brazil......

Edit...vv A life time supply of hob nobs and big boobs if you win?....Thanks Foxy chic!

I don't think it should be capped as such, I just disagree with rolling it over.

A large percentage of people only take part when it's rolled over. This is unfair because they won't have contributed to the prize fund in previous weeks.

I think it should be payed out each week. If nobody wins the jackpot, it should be spread out; thus increasing the payout for five numbers, four numbers etc.

No don't cap it, that's half the buzz..
But on the final roll, if its not won then split it with all the winning tickets, according to the number of balls they have

Lottery fever is tipped to see ticket sales soar to three million an hour before Saturday night's triple rollover draw.

The £18 million monster Lotto prize - only the fourth Lotto triple rollover in the Lottery's 13-year history - must be won.

If no single player hits it big by getting all six main numbers, the cash will be shared out between winners in the next prize level.

UK Lottery operator Camelot expects ticket sales to reach three million an hour rate at their highest point on Saturday.

Well thats my tickets bought...Got in before the rush...

If the Jackpot isn't won....... why can't they give a proportion of the prize money to a WORTHWHILE charity........... Like, Cancer Research, NSPCC, RPCA, Age Concern etc......

Not spend it on the sodding Olympics or the blithering arts.

I stopped playing the lottery when I saw just how little goes to, what I class as, 'proper' charities.

I mean, why the fvck do I want a proportion of my money to go to the Opera or any form of the arts. I also resent it being used to fund (or help fund) purely ethnic causes.

If we all donate/buy a ticket, then surely it should go to those charities that benefit ALL

I'll go away now and hide before the goody goody, whinging, bleeding heart lefties get on my back!

Not capped as such, but it should be spread around better; lots of smaller prizes instead of bigger ones - £500 for 3 balls, £5,000 for 4, etc. The chances of winning on a large scale are astronomical. If the chances of winning on a smaller scale were more rewarding, it might entice more people to play...

Oh, and remove Government involvement seeing as the Lottery has now turned into their personal piggy bank as well.
Lots of money earmarked for "good causes" is now just being wasted on more stupid Government beauracracy and rubbish. I'm particularly unhappy about that

People say that a rollover increase the spending 'frenzy' and more people buy lotto tickets, and this is prolly true. But how many of you have gotten 3 balls and won a tenner? I have, lost of times, more than I can remember....now say those 3 balls won you £1000, or £1500, that's nice holiday, or a downpayment on the car, how do you think ticket sales would go if people thought there was a really good chance of getting back that kind of dosh for their 1 pound layout...I think ticket sales would also go up...I may be wrong, but for me, if I thought I would win £1000 a month or more, then I would play more. it would also increase overall wellbeing I tink...millions may get some eople stuck, family rows, not knowing what to do with all that money etc etc, whereas a coupla grand...well we all have something we have gotten our eye on that we could spend it on in a flash; mortgage payment, car, holiday, signed autograph of Simon Cowell etc.

Damn, this thread has just brought back my gambling addiction. I'd forgot about the rollover, now just gonna HAVE to go put a tenner on online, grrrr

Should winnings be capped? NO

But I do think the lottery licence should be given to another company now. Ok, Camalot have done a good job, but they have also had some highly paid executives getting vast amounts of salary for a relatively easy desk job.

I think the lottery should be given to Richard Branson, I also think Northern Rock should be too.

Then, he could use all the money that gets paid into lottery funds , and all those funds that lay unclaimed for 6 months, plus winners money, to inject the much needed funds that Northern Rock needs, rather than the government and ultimately the tax payers having to bail them out. ( lets face it, most winners dont go have a blowout and spend all their millions in a week anyway , most is left in a bank, etc)

See! Problem solved!

I should be in politics !

p.s ? Has anyone ever had a win big enough to have to be paid by cheque from Camelot? Just wondering who they do actually bank with ?

Well if I was in a 100 strong syndicate, lets say for arguments sake that we was all in a syndicate here on POF, the UK FORUMS Fishies would be lucky to get enough money to buy a tidy home out of the 18M shared between 100 people..

But all these millions every week, if they were to donate a higher percentage of that money to local projects, I don't think anyone would be complaining if it benefited their local area. I think that each week they should pick a city/town to spend a million pound on something constructive/positive/handy/needed for the community. I cant see anyone complaining that they wanted an extra million pounds, out of the many that they have won, from a pound!

I haven't played the lottery for years, might have a punt tonight, you never know.. I'm feeling lucky

I have always thought that more, smaller, prizes would be a good idea.

If the jackpot was kept at a million, and the 'lesser' prizes were 'morer' then lots of people would have the chance of winning life changing amounts.
Lets fact it - a hundred thousand would be life changing for most of us.

If the odds on winning were better, I'd actually buy a ticket or two!
