Personally, I rarely have a problem with leaving England.

Not neccessarily - there are 500,000 people coming INTO this country every year , so surely something is great about this country ?
But if you want to go thats your choice - its a free country ( for now ) .. just close the door after you , and keep the heat in

| leave england or not leave england Posted: 1/27/2008 3:35:08 AM | I would never leave this country. Friend of mine emigrated to Canada, beautiful house and scenery too. Unfortunately life out there isnt as cheap as they were led to understand. Schooling is different which meant it wasnt feasable for her to work. Grass isnt usually greener on the otherside. I love this country. I am English and proud to be so and very proud to live here. | |

| leave england or not leave england Posted: 1/27/2008 4:05:34 AM | I would leave this country in a flash, I have done so quite a few times, Lived in Canada and the USA, loved it. I find that most people who emmigrate, go to a country looking for a better UK than we have here, That aint going to happen, you also see that in immigrants, therefore the grass is not greener. But if you go to theses countries and accept their ways and go with the flow (stop rowing upstream) you find out that it can be done , I mean like thier are thousands of people living in these countries and they are doing great.
Open your horizons and your ears and eyes, do the homework before you go, even a short visit could help. Then remember you are going there to live not to have a holiday.
I am retired now and have a disabilty, so I dont think I can emmigrate now unless I win the Lottery before Whitey, lol

| leave england or not leave england Posted: 1/27/2008 4:32:17 AM | I think one of the things that has fuelled the exodus is the equity that people can release by selling their homes. Also - cheaper airfares and the increasing globalisation of our world. As for people moving to the UK - it's not rocket science. Most are from developing or E European countries and are in search of a better life. Same from this end I suppose. There is no incongruity, as has been suggested, about the two situations existing side by side. I would certainly consider moving - but there again I have no close ties. You just need to do your homework. Some friends set up in farming in France and are earning a decent living in their chosen lifestyle. They couldn't have got on the first rung over here.... | |

| leave england or not leave england Posted: 1/27/2008 5:26:16 AM | | there may be lots of people leaving. but how many return a year later when they realise that the only difference in their lives would be the climate or the house prices? true by selling a small house here can fund buying a bigger (and not necessarily better) property abroad. but often thats the only advantage. | |

| leave england or not leave england Posted: 1/27/2008 5:31:16 AM | What good will England become as immigrants flow in weekly with more houses being built on green land, plus increasing crime and irresponsible parents... this overcrowded little britain will just eventually sink into the water.

| leave england or not leave england Posted: 1/27/2008 5:35:17 AM | We have it pretty good in this country, we tend to have more holiday days then most other countries (in America I think they only get 10 or something a year!) and we get paid a hell of a lot more as well.
Moving out of England is quite a drastic step, if I was unhappy with e.g. London (which im not, its the best city in the world!) it would be far easier just to go somewhere like Bournemouth which has a very different vibe, plus that way I can stay in touch with friends and family easily.

Is the cost of living more expensive there? The 12 hour days you are thinking about in the UK, isn't that to do with needing to do as much as possible in daylight hours and in good weather? Tell us more about your plans.

| leave england or not leave england Posted: 1/27/2008 6:25:03 AM | I'll be out of here as soon as my mortgage is paid off. Intending to retire on my 50th birthday and go as soon as possible after.
Can go to many other countries in the world and live very cheaply and have a much better standard of living compared to here.
Haven't got many ties to this country, and it's getting worse every year that passes.
Perhaps if I find "Miss Right" and have kids in the next 10 years, my outlook will change, but for now I'm enjoying counting down the days till I escape.

| leave england or not leave england Posted: 1/27/2008 11:40:57 AM | If I could afford to I would be off. But it would have to be a good job to take me away, good enough to allow me to return whenever I wanted to my house bought on the massive wage.
Might really consider getting out in a few years though, can't say that much is making me want to stay, apart from family/friends. I like a bit of change anyway, randomness rocks. A beach for a surf would be good!

| leave england or not leave england Posted: 1/27/2008 1:46:54 PM | A month away and I wanna come back home !
Even Canada and America can't match England on a roll !
As for Europe............nice but only for the diversity of holidays offered....nothing more .
Stay home and lets shut the door ,now !

| leave england or not leave england Posted: 1/27/2008 3:16:39 PM | | I just hope that those who leave England for a better life abroad remain abroad when they become old/frail/ill etc and not come running back to use the NHS they turned their back on. | |

| leave england or not leave england Posted: 1/27/2008 3:30:10 PM | I have to agree with what others have said about having to make your own mind up about it. I just wish there were no borders in the world and that we were all working towards the same goals... It's puzzled me from childhood why people keep building things where there is flood and famine when the world would work much better if we worked with nature instead of against it. I heard on the afternoon gardening program that it's better to rotate vegetable growing in the main. It seems nature is telling us things we just seem to ignore.
I always feel so much happier in the sunshine and my body tells me the cold damp north is not the greatest place to be in the winter... I just don't get the rush to leave England in August.... I found it far too hot on the continent and prefer it here then.
Having said all that, I like snow! But I think I'd like to be in Canada for that!

Why not, most of the people that are leaving this country would have paid far more into the NHS than all the immigrants that are currently running it into the ground.
Saying that, having been to hospital overseas, I can't see me rushing back to this country to face the waiting lists for operations, or sitting ALL night in A&E for an X-Ray. Sure, you get hospital treatment for free, but how you can call healthcare free when you are charged £6.85 for a prescription is beyond me.

Good idea...... then come back to the UK in a year's time as a recluse gay Tibetan Shaolin Monk and we'll give you a house and loads of free money and you won't have to work again for the rest of your life.

I will be ok, I would never dream of not having private health insurance - in this country or abroad!
