| Wierd things our pets eat Posted: 1/28/2008 6:59:20 PM | | So I made a wee mistake today and left some food on the table, which the cat ate. (The honey garlic sauce from dinner). It made me think of all the other wierd things he's eaten and all the weird things he likes to eat. I think the wierdest is probably the japapeno peppers from the nacho cheese (He loves those!). Also made me wonder what weird food everyone else's pets eat! | |

| Wierd things our pets eat Posted: 1/28/2008 7:28:21 PM | | My cat goes wild for corn. She likes chicken, not loves it . But once I brought frog's legs home from a restaurant--frog's legs taste like chicken legs to me. But the way she went crazy for them, they must taste different to her. She was jumping all over me trying to get at them. | |

| Wierd things our pets eat Posted: 1/28/2008 7:32:04 PM | | If I told you what my dogs have eating, you would vomit, because this is one of the things they have eaten. Dog owners need strong stomachs and - perhaps - deep pockets. My dogs have ran up 1000 dollar Vet bills because they have developed garbage can flu. | |

| Wierd things our pets eat Posted: 1/28/2008 7:43:40 PM | | I forgot to add, my old cat LOVED ham. There was one time we left a ham on the counter while we were eating supper and she jumped up there and just started chewing away at it. My dad was not impressed. My cat that likes the jalapenos also really likes carrots, but only when they're cooked. | |

| Wierd things our pets eat Posted: 1/28/2008 7:44:39 PM | | my maine coon cat goes absolutely ballistic over collard greens. he knows when i have some in the refrigerator and sits sentinel at the door. he steals them off the counter if i don't give him some of his own. since collards conatin high amounts of calcium, i can only guess that he needs more calcium than his food provides. but, then, he loves pretzels too. i could just have a weird cat. | |

| Wierd things our pets eat Posted: 1/28/2008 7:51:11 PM | | my cat loved asparagus......went absolutely bonkers over it. i used to eat asparagus out of the can, and as soon as i took off the lid, she knew what it was before seeing it. | |

| Wierd things our pets eat Posted: 1/28/2008 7:54:06 PM | Turd burglar! My buddy watched my dog and she would not stay out of the cat box.. YACK! I was horrified and had to have a talk with her about that. No, No, No…nasty!
She will eat almost anything.. I think she might be part goat.. If it’s human food she is down with it.. But she loves..TACOBELL. When in line at the drive through she shakes and moans she want’s it so bad. I always get her a soft shell taco..

frog's legs taste like chicken legs to me. Reminds me of a conversation between two Lesbian frogs. One says to the other, "You're right, we do taste like chicken."
One must not forget that dogs, cats included, are still ingrained with hunting for survival skills. Domesticated only means they tolerate us, this is especially true for cats. I have had dogs that I've seen eat horse poop. Must have enjoyed it because they went back for more. A dog that dragged out every left piece of a deer. The head/skull one day, it was trashed, leg bones next, so on and so on. Darn, I sure would have enjoyed some of that venison.

| Wierd things our pets eat Posted: 1/28/2008 10:08:36 PM | | My cat would only eat chicken if it had mayo on it. And my dog would take blackberrys and eat them. Honest. | |

| Wierd things our pets eat Posted: 1/28/2008 10:16:01 PM | | I have a friend whose dog loves ice cubes. He had rather have an ice cube than a doggie treat. He eats hot peppers too, the hotter the better. He will eat one, shake his head, then eat another. Maybe that's why he likes the ice so much. | |

| Wierd things our pets eat Posted: 1/29/2008 12:04:10 AM | My last cat loved corn (on the cob, only!) & chicken. When I was cooking Shake 'N' Bake chicken, I had to lock him in the bathroom, or he'd get so excited he'd bite my legs. Drove me nuts! So I would give him a thigh (or even 2), since we all hated the dark meat & it usually went into the soup, anyway.
When I was in my teens, I had a cat who used to get drunk on my pickle juice. She's sneak it right out of my cup.

| Wierd things our pets eat Posted: 1/29/2008 12:50:09 AM | Had a dog that loved fruit, especially over-ripe bananas and grapes, another that would eat jalapenos and kimchee like it was chocolate, and a pair of sibling cats (genetic?) that preferred the dog's food instead of their own, and the mom-cat that would beg like a dog for pizza, but not just ANY pizza had to be only from one place. Stupid cat could tell the difference, and not beg for it (or eat it) if it wasn't from the usual place.
The oddest was a malamute mix that would "dine". Not so much WHAT he would eat, but HOW... He'd grab a mouthful of food from his bowl in the kitchen, carry it into the dining room, drop it on the floor under the table and then eat it one piece at a time. When he got people food he'd obsessively eat item-by-item- taters or rice first, then veggies, then meat.

| Wierd things our pets eat Posted: 1/29/2008 1:44:37 AM | My dogs will eat anything they can get - one time I was on the couch eating taquitos and left to answer the door - when I got back my taquitos were gone
My other dog likes the smell of lotion - when I put it on he tries to lick my feet

| Wierd things our pets eat Posted: 1/29/2008 3:15:26 AM | | I had a kitten that used to eat popcorn and still did as she got older. I could never go get something to drink without coming back and finding her head in the bowl and happily munching away. | |

| Wierd things our pets eat Posted: 1/29/2008 6:07:02 AM | | My dog loves fruit, especially oranges. She also loves fruit juice. At the beach she will paw at the cooler for a juice box. I put the straw in and she holds it between her paws and squeezes the juice into her mouth. She doesn't seem to realize she can drink from the lake, lol. | |

| Wierd things our pets eat Posted: 1/29/2008 6:10:57 AM | | My dog ate a whole bunch of red wool sometime. We didn't know she ate it until she went for a poop though. Why would a dog think wool is good to eat?Man dogs can be weird. | |

| Wierd things our pets eat Posted: 1/29/2008 6:18:18 AM | I had a big, black dog once that loved jello, but not any old jello, only the green kind. He also liked green grapes. I guess he was just into green. | |

| Wierd things our pets eat Posted: 1/29/2008 6:45:48 AM | | I took in a stray kitten years ago who had developed a little gastronintestinal problem, hence the name "Pooter". We found out later that she loved beans, and would sit at the table and beg whenever we had any kind of bean. We had another kitten who liked to eat the red tinsel off the Christmas tree or any place she could find it. We'd see evidence of it in her cat box and once she had a piece hanging out her butt. My son called them "jingle berries". This same cat hates catnip. She ran away anytime we tried to give her some. I guess she "just said no". | |
