NY Mets get Johann Santana for 4 prospects. As a NY Mets fan , its about time they made a move . Great job Omar . The Mets will sign the guy to a longterm contract now and be set for a while with a worthy ace.

woo hoo!!! WE finally have a legitimate ace. And we didnt give up either Pelfry or FMart. Great job. Now the Mets just have to actually get a contract done with Johan.

well it is not final yet for one thing, i believe the mets set a 72 hour timetable for completion of the deal. johan has to accept the deal the mets put together, waive his no trade claus and then pass a physical in order for this to be finalized. its never over til its over in baseball but its looking like it will happen. if he is not in pinstripes then im just glad he is out of the american league. i think he is the best pitcher in baseball, with him on the mets there is no way they would have a historical meltdown like they did at the end of last season.

At fish

i think he is the best pitcher in baseball,

..............are you nuts???........what the hell did he do in 2007 that was so spectacular?....it would have been a sad thing to have him go to the Yanks if they had to give up kennedy & hughs (along with cabrera).....i'm glad hank steinnbrenner stuck to his guns on this one!

with him on the mets there is no way they would have a historical meltdown like they did at the end of last season.

.......if i'm not mistaken the mets lost about 8 or 9 games(as a team) in the last 14-15 game stretch of the season..........unless santana can walk on water, i can't see how he himself coulda prevented that slide.

Why do I have to recall the nightmare of the Mets falling like a dead pigeon last year. I think it will be a great new start to our pitching staff. We need more pitchers for sure. I will be happy when I see him play with the uniform on.

Thanks for the memories sum1reel (eche)

Santana may not be THE best pitcher in baseball, but he is certainly one of the best. Of course, I would have liked to see him go to the Red Sox, but I am glad he is probably going to the Mets and not to that other New York team!!

.............am i nuts???? as someone asked. i dont think so but with all the accusations maybe there is something to it. johans career record is 93-44 , 2004-06 cy young winner , 3.22 careeer era , 235+ strikeouts over the last four years and he is a left hander whom is not even 29 years old yet. so yes, i will stick to my original statement and even with last seasons sub par record and state that he is the best pitcher in baseball until he proves otherwise. 17 you are a mets fan? thats not right. being a mets fan is grounds for automatic removal of giants ring leader status. who you got in basketball? the celtics or the lakers, both?

Yes I am a Mets fan! Was at the 7th game of the 86 series.

Basketball .................................I could care less.

Automatic removal of Giants as the ring leader? hmmm
Do you make the rules I was elected, I did not take the job. So I am sure I will still be the ring leader till next season. You can have the job then.

Mets are the best team in the the national league with out a doubt. Seems we just hit bottom real fast last year because of our pitching so this trade will help. I would love to see a rematch with those damn Yanks. I have been waiting all my life for that series and winning it. Maybe I will never see it. But hey who thought the Giants would be in the Superbowl.

this is the best example of why baseball needs a cap, its always the same teams getting the best free agents, i mean when the season starts 20% if not more are already out of the race, by all-star break atleast 50% are out, i know its good for the big markets, but not for the game as a hole. i know people want to point to the yankees and say, see just because u spend the most doesnt mean u will win, just because they under acheive doesnt make a good point, if baseball had a cap then teams like minnesota and oakland could keep some of there talent that they develpoe. the only good thing about the mets getting him , atleast the yankees did not!!!!!

you know the rules and you also know that i dont make them up, being from jersey and all. as far as popi and chickenhead are concerned you are the ringleader. what an endorsement? that was fine with me until i discovered you to be a mets fan. that is a treasonous admission. the rules clearly state that although you may still be a fan of either or both teams you can not be put into a posistion of political authority. i have a list of all aplicable rules and regulations if you wish to brush up on proper etiquette. you do qualify to be the jets ringleader however. also i do not want the job, i just want someone pure to be in that posistion.

Fishnick: Rules and regulations

Being a fan does not mean you have to only be a fan of teams that rhyme together
Jets Nets Mets.

If that was the case you would have to be a NY Giant Fan and a SF Giant fan in baseball!
Get my drift?

Being I am the Giant ring leader chosen by Pats fans. I will accept it. I do not see many here defending the Giants as much as I do. See I can take the beating. Hope they will be able to take it come Sunday.

I am wondering now? Who do you route for in the other sports. Don't tell me your a Yankee fan?

where did i say that it has anything to do with rhyming 17? that would be a pretty childish argument. it has to do with the unwritten rules of being a new york sports fan. so i will provide you with a quick history lesson since you seem to be unaware of the past. from 1956-1973 the giants played their games at yankee stadium. the jets played at shea for nineteen years. i thought you might have noticed this being such a big giants fan. it was a natural path that many fans took . mets and jets and the yankees and the giants. i root for the yankees, hell yhea. go ahead and try to shame me on that subject mets fan. you are the ring leader in the eyes of obnoxious pats fans, good for you. in the eyes of true blue giants fans you are blasphemous

You know Fisher price. Your getting to be an A$$ now in my book. You seem to be so learned. But that's what you think. You try to be funny but your not. Now I know why they pick on you and add insult to injury.

dude, that is your best argument yet. you know why they pick on me? look in the mirror, you are the one currently in a piszing contest with hansel and gretel. just because someone is supposedly a fan of a team does not give them a voice for all fans. you think all the pats fans agree with humpty and dumpty. they are an embrassment to pats fans and should have their privileges revoked. being a fan to me is not a right it is a privilege. there are rules and regulations as far as i see it and how many other true fans see it. dont worry though my standpoint is in the minority. i come from an oldschool sect that is steeped in tradition. you broke one of the cardinal rules, mets fan

D-Backs baby.

Dodgers > D Backs.. You are forgetting that in the NL West, the Dodgers have a better core of young players and a more complete team. Clearly the Dodgers are the team to beat in the National League even though the Mets just landed Santana.

better young core of players? how do youfigure i have some names for you . chris young , connor jackson , steven drew , justin upton , brandon webb , danny harrin , chad tracy , they are the youngest team in the majors , they have done it right grown from the farm system . and they are finealy seeing the fruits of that labor pay off . the dodgers are good but to say they have a better core of young players is just crazy.

It's HAREN, and the Dodgers do have a better core with Russell Martin, Chad Billingsley, Matt Kemp, James Loney, Andre Ethier, and a bunch of prospects coming up including Clayton Kershaw. The Dodgers have always had a better farm system than the DBacks. For a fact, the Dodgers have the best lineup and starting rotation in the LEAGUE next to Boston.

Sure the Twins probably could have gotten more for Santana from the Yankees or Sox, but the fact is the Mets are in the National League. If the Twins will be haunted it would only be in an occasional interleague game or WS game , which if Twins got that far they would not care , because most likely it would be help of prospects they got from the Mets.

today at 5pm is the deadline set by the mets organization. i think the mets are just stupid for making a deadline. he is the greatest pitcher currently in baseball why make a deadline? think about the twins fans. i would be upset ,to say the least, that they are letting there franchise walk out the door. the twins were 87-35 when johan started and 232-237 when other people started for them. there is no way the twins can be a better team without santana on the roster. so if the deadline elapses it means nothing. until we have definitive confirmation that the contract is sighned and all obligations have been met then it is not over. it is looking good for the mets at this point, dammit.

i agree, in my opinion johan is the best thing going right now, i dont think thats a pitchers true value is in wins and losses, i think its in a pitchers e.r.a, and johans is really really good, point is a pitcher can have a crappy game a give up say 6 runs , but if his teams scores 9 he will get the win, on the other hand a pitcher can give up 2 runs in a complete game and get a lossif his team doesnt produce for him, now witch one is a better preformace for the pitcher?

Honestly, as a Twins fan, I thought this was a great deal. And here is why.

For the Mets, they get arguably one of the best pitchers in MLB today.

For the Twins, I think it is a great move too. I knew we couldn't keep Santana, so why not trade him instead of losing him to free agency. Also, the prospect thing, while technically correct, usually favors the Twins in this case. The Twins organization has been known in recent times as having the hands down best scouting organization and farm organization in the MLB today. They are constantly getting taking the "prospects" from other teams and making them into top notch talent. I seem to remember a trade the Twins once made with the New York Yankees in which the Twins sent a declining Second Basemen in return for 4 prospects, two of whom became future All-Stars, and 3 of whom started with the Twins for many years.
