| New York City Travel Guides Posted: 1/30/2008 7:42:58 PM | Hey everyone.
I searched this forum, and found no similar thread.
My question is this, I am planning on taking a week's vacation in New York City this year and I wanted to know (A) the best time of year to go as a tourist and (B) what your favorite NYC travel guide is. I have personally always liked Lonely Planet but I think their latest is from 2006.
Another question would be Seattle vs NYC as a destination? NYC would be cheaper for me, only because I have a aunt staying there I could stay with (no hotel).
Thanks | |

I didn't look at any other ones, so I can't say if there were better ones out there, but I was pretty happy with the guide! It gave places to see and things to do for a wide range of interests, and even indicated a few gay-friendly spots.
I've heard Let's Go is also a good line of tour guide books - worth checking out!

Now, before you laugh... you get an amazing view of the architecture of the city and you can get on and off at any stop and ride the bus all day and see so much more!

I would say the best time to travel will be around April or May time frame. It won't be too hot and humid, and you still get the usual traffic that comes through.
B. I got friends there for guides, but as I travel I always use "Let's Go" guide book, they have the cooolest tips for tourist traveling under budget!
I would go Seattle!!!! all the way! its way way funnier then NYC. I gone to both place, I would highly recommended Seattle over NYC any day!
Seattle got lot more to do and see, NYC only got those town, and the only good town for you as a tourist would be Manhattan and thats about it! other places would be a slightly scary for a tourist to go there along, and half the time the place there isn't well kept. You would think a dumpster is there. Anyways that is my take of NYC.
and in Seattle, you can always go to stay in a Hostel which will only cost you $20 a night for a bed in a dormatory setting. To see more location see www.hostelworld.com And the pplx who work there are all local pplx from that area. They will give you more tips then any book can get you.
Have fun! | |
