| Campstock!! Sarasota County. Feb 29 - March 2 Posted: 1/31/2008 8:01:17 AM | Hi! Sophia,
E-mail "BIGFISH" and have him post this on the events calendar. Sounds like alot of fun. I have done two camping trips with POF and always had a lot of fun. I don't have a tent , so I will wait and see if someone is looking for a roomie. Hope this takes off and you have lots of fun.

| Campstock!! Sarasota County. Feb 29 - March 2 Posted: 1/31/2008 8:34:15 AM | We have an area reserved that holds 50 people, and can go over that if need be. It is not the "Wilderness" section, but it is not full hook ups either. There are two 12 seat picnic tables, a huge fire pit to share, and a pavilion all in the center. That area does have electric and water hookups. We are closer to the pool, showers, and other amenities if we do it in this section, and are guaranteed enough spots (better than if everyone had to reserve their own, then we wouldn't be able to all be together, and maybe not even have enough spots for everyone that wanted to go). We would love it to be a huge group, but will take as many as we can :)
I have written to Bigfish and am waiting for his reply on putting this on the header board. Hopefully that will happen today. We will see.
We can't wait to see you there!!! All are welcome, so bring some friends. We have a group of about 8 on our own already, so this should be fun.

| Campstock!! Sarasota County. Feb 29 - March 2 Posted: 1/31/2008 8:42:32 AM | ThirdTimeAround If you don't get an offer for a roommate I have several tents. I have 2-3 man pop up tents and 4-5 man pop ups, also and older two room cabin style tent. I will try and bring what extra ones I can. I also have a new three compartment pop tent that i intend to bring for ME......Along with my air mattress and air pump.
Are we allowed to bring grills or are there some type of cooking grills there? Should we bring our own wood for fires or is there wood available to purchase?

| Campstock!! Sarasota County. Feb 29 - March 2 Posted: 1/31/2008 12:47:15 PM | I contacted the campground in regards to the grills and the firewood. This was their response:
"You can bring your grill as we do not have them at the shelters. We sell firewood or you are allowed to bring your own. "
So anyone who is willing to bring a grill...please do. I know that Ashley has a fire griller (one to put on/over the fire) that she is willing to bring. That also means that we will need to bring pots & pans as well.
I know Publix sells firewood for really cheap, so I will probably pick up a bag or two before I go out, anyone else is welcome to bring some of they have any.

| Campstock!! Sarasota County. Feb 29 - March 2 Posted: 2/1/2008 9:38:22 AM | | I'll definitely keep you posted. It will depend on if I bring the car or borrow space in someones truck or van. KimSRQ is borrowing a tent also, or she may camp in with me, depending on how many people sign up and how much space is needed. | |

| Campstock!! Sarasota County. Feb 29 - March 2 Posted: 2/3/2008 8:59:36 AM | This looks like a very fun time. Nice people outside enjoying nature- who could ask for more? Are there spots there to go too? I am a novice at camping, haven't been since I was 6 or 7 years old but I am open to try anything.
I am very interested in coming however I have no idea where the Peace River is.
Could you please list the actual address so I can Mapquest it or, if possible, add a link to it here?
Thanks in advance for your time and have an enjoyable weekend!

| Campstock!! Sarasota County. Feb 29 - March 2 Posted: 2/3/2008 9:45:04 AM | Sophia this sounds like a fun event. If there aren't any tents available, I can just come down & visit for the day.
Valerie, go to the beginning of the thread--The address she listed was 2998 Northwest State Road 70, Arcadia. If you come down I-75, get off at Exit #217 (SR70) & head east about 40 miles & you should come up on the campground.
I think the campground used to be a KOA.

| Campstock!! Sarasota County. Feb 29 - March 2 Posted: 2/3/2008 4:51:00 PM | Hi Folks,
Tenting is fun, but what if...just what if.....someone wished to bring a smaller sized RV(25ft). Are there electric/water sites available to POF clients?
|
| Campstock!! Sarasota County. Feb 29 - March 2 Posted: 2/3/2008 7:46:10 PM | yeah there are at the pavillions but I believe that you will have to get your own site and I know that they range from 45 to 55 dollars a night , with camping it is 10 dollars a night \ | |

Yes, there are plenty of RV sites all throughout the campground. You are more then welcome to bring your camper/RV. You will not be in the same exact location as us Tenters, but it's my understanding that you can get a Full Hookup spot, not to far from our area, and you would still be more than welcome to join us anytime. The rates for a separate site are different, and you would have to reserve that on your own. Here is the info that I got.
Includes water and sewer, metered electric is extra
Full Hook up Site $49 a night Extra charge for using an air-conditioner or electric heater $ 3
Feel Free to contact them and see if you can reserve a spot for that weekend, and join us with our activities.

| Campstock!! Sarasota County. Feb 29 - March 2 Posted: 2/5/2008 12:58:56 PM | For all of those with the fishing questions. Here is the response from the Campground.
Is the river fresh or salt water? Most of the Peace River is freshwater. To the south (Ft. Ogden) it gets brackish. The canoeing is done in the freshwater sections. You will see fresh and saltwater fish and animals in the river.
What kind of fish are in the river and can you fish? All freshwater species such as bass, bream, and catfish are in the river. You will also see Snook, Mullet, Blue crabs, and Tarpon even though the water is fresh. A freshwater license is required as per law and you’d better have a saltwater license and/or stamps if catching saltwater species.
Can we swim? Swimming in the Peace River is fine. Look around first for gators. Wade into the river. Do not dive or jump, as it is hard to see in the darker water. People swim all the time in the river.
I have not heard back yet on whether or not there is a bait shop on the premises or close by. I will let you know as soon as I find out.
