Valentine's Day

I was just wondering how many of us will find our significant other by the (mother of all lover's holidays) Valentine's Day? I certianly hope a significant % of us do! It would mean that there is a God (Eros) of love out there somewhere!

Valentine's Day

This right here is why I LOATHE Valentines day.

It draws a line in the sand for people to force love.
Those who are in relationships feel they must do something that they might not otherwise do any other day.
If you love a person you should NOT need a special day to say/show that love

And for the single people it's a day to point out all the lovie-dovie couples whom they aren't

EFF THAT!!!

In the past 11 years I have been single for one Valentines day...last year I had the best Valentines day of my life and I still abhor the concept.

My boyfriend and I are going to karaoke and singing anti-love songs on Valentines day. We probably won't even sit together.
Red, white and lacy can bite my a$$!!!!!

Valentine's Day

I wouldn't hold my breath about finding true love by Valentine's Day...that is just asking too much. However, I did have someone contact me just prior to Valentine's Day 3 years ago....and he is now my best friend. Which brings me to my original idea for posting, the pressure of Valentine's Day for singles or not so happy couples.
While a cupid is the symbol, Valentine's Day is about more than just a hot date.
I always received Valentines from my Dad. I always sent them to both my parents, my sisters, my nieces/nephews, or special friends.
You don't have to be the "Scrooge" of Hearts.....just because you aren't madly in love.
I've worked with people that had a fit if their flowers weren't delivered early in the day...
and even called their husband's to find out what was going on. I think that is stupid.
It is nice to expect nothing....be surprised if someone is nice......and especially to remember that the emotions of the day are between you and your "Valentine"....what you give or what you do needs only to be special for you. It is not a contest.
Enjoy, Becca

nope not thinking this will be my lucky year to suddenly find myself , sipping champagne on that bed of rose petals...but I think I will probably go out and get myself a little box of Godiva's just to remind me that I am loved...
you guys don't let this holiday get you down.........we are at the start of a brand new year....and please don't settle just so you have a Valentine...

Thats the way my BF and I are...

We don't need a reason to do little things for each other.
Heck...I can't imagine the tooth rotting sugary sweet-fest we would have if we did celebrate V-Day. God...it would be nauseating

Two yrs ago I got dumped the day after Valentine's, but thankfully he broke up with me because I found out he's not a good guy (cheater..) so I'd say it was a great V-Day gift for me

As for finding love BEFORE V-Day, doubtful. I don't know the official story of Valentine's Day off the top of my head, but it doesn't have to be about being in a relationship. I love myself so I treated myself to entrance fees for school and a new mp3 player (it's pink!). Happy V-Day to me

Valentines day is what I call part of my holiday trifecta of woe. Nothing really ever goes well either you get the wrong gift or your single and alone. Not my favorite holiday. I mean even when I am dating someone usually it turns out bad. And I am really nice and romantic cant figure out why it never goes right. Oh well that my two cents.

If you have no significant other in your life heading towards Valentines day then why not do something special for some one else that is lonely, alone etc.
It is a sure FIX for taking the focus off your own isues with this day!

I recall a Valentines day in the past when several of us "singles" who dispised this day got together and had a "bad taste" Valentines party!!!!!!! What a blast that was.

I also make special cards for my children, or prepare a special desert (heart-shaped).

I know it's such a *commercial* holiday nowadays, but I love it! Last year was my first V-day alone and I didn't feel as awful as I thought I would. It looks like this will be my second one without a valentine and I gotta admit that I have a feeling I'm going to be pretty down this year.
I really do love the holiday, the teddy bear's at the stores, the roses being sent to co-workers, going out to dinner, getting a gift with a heart on it...it just warms my heart. I love to give too, ecspecially a homemade coupon gift or silly, mushy gift we laugh about or just sharing a box of chocolates together. *sigh* I'm really going to hate being single this V-day.

Good idea westernlite~~~Why does it have to be about Me......If you don't have someone...think about your elderly neighbors.....or the homeless....even the orphans....make this valentine's day a happy day.....do something for someone else....and you will feel good about yourself.....Just a thought.....Angel

i already have my valentine's love, he's been my love for a long time now. he's warm, cuddly, and so quiet i don't even know he's here. who can that be? more like what can that be.....my stuffed bear (fuzzy wuzzy brownie bear). i don't think that i'm going to be one of those to have a valentine's dinner with anyone special, receive flowers or chocolates so i'm not going to get my hopes up.

angel has some good ideas, unfortunately i'm not able to do any of those things being lost in the cornfields.

I would welcome some good suggestions on how to spend my first Valentine's Day alone after a very long marriage. Can probably handle the Valentines part, but it is my birthday too. Having dinner with a girlfriend is too weird, thought about just flying somewhere--anyone have any other good ideas?

Unless some miracle happens (and I'm still keeping my fingers crossed), I'm just going to finish that bottle of Ciroc I have laying around in my computer room. There's only 1/4 left, so I'll probably live (as long as there's no gun in the room ); much to the chagrin of most people, I'm sure... hahaha!

When I'm single on vday i go out and buy myself things i want for me instead of having to spend it on jewerly and dinners and getting something i dont need or want in return. so i treat myself to what i wouldve spent on a girl call me selfish but when i hear my buddies say i got a crappy box of chocolates and i went all out her it makes me feel so much better

I never really understand why some people must force the issue since its a so call love holiday. Just do what you normally do, and the special one might come. If you are forcing something, means you really not into true love, but just trying to find someone because its Valentine.
