Hi. I just added my profile and am curious if there are any other Muslims here. If so, I'd love to chat about why you chose this instead of a Muslim dating site, what you do about the picture thing, etc. :)

But if there are no Muslims, I'm happy to chat with anyone who might have a question about Muslims or Islam.

I have questions and maybe some misconceptions you might want to tackle.

Ive heard the your prophet Mohammed took a very young wife (Ive heard 6 yo and also 9 yo), doesn't that make him a paedofile, and how does your religion tackle this problem.

The muslim religion gets a lot of bad press, and we only seem to see the bad, petty side of things, is this your perception of christianity?

I have heard many muslims saying that the ultimate aim of islam is for 100% saturation making it a the only religion, this seems to be the goal of christianity although this is not persued as agressivly as Islam. is this true?

Why do muslims seem reluctant to denounce violence? Even muslims in free countries like the UK were very slow, and seeminly reluctant to condemn the bombers in london.

What aspects of Islam do you absolutly not agree with? and isnt the Quran just as outdated and sketchy as the bible is?

I'm a muslim, as well...but I have a hard time really believing in a lot of the rhetoric and beliefs in Islam.

I guess that's just me.

The biggest thing that comes to mind is the veil. I don't like it and I don't agree with it at all...and in fact, I won't date a woman who's veilled.

Second comes to the entire concept that Muslims shouldn't date. I refuse to follow that one, either.

Okay I am not a Muslim but I can answer a couple of points.

Ive heard the your prophet Mohammed took a very young wife (Ive heard 6 yo and also 9 yo), doesn't that make him a paedofile, and how does your religion tackle this problem.

Yes I have heard that as well. It is recorded in by some Muslims who I believe were writing a long time after the prophets death but it appears to be false.

The girl in question is Aisha. We dont know when she was born. We know that she fled with her father and other persecuated Muslims to Ethiopia in 615. We know that in that same year she was nearly married to a long standing fiancee. And we know that was married in 622 to Mohammed.

If she was 6 when married Mohammed then she must have fled with her father about a year before she was born. And that she must have been engaged and ready to marry several years before her birth!

There is actually a whole lot of evidence that she could not have been younger than 14 when she got married. But that is the minumum.

I have heard many muslims saying that the ultimate aim of islam is for 100% saturation making it a the only religion, this seems to be the goal of christianity although this is not persued as agressivly as Islam. is this true?

Islam does try to convert others yes. In that way its identical to Christianity. The koran forbids forcing people to convert, it also demands toleration for non-Muslims living in Islamic countries. Obviously these things are not always kept to!

Why do muslims seem reluctant to denounce violence? Even muslims in free countries like the UK were very slow, and seeminly reluctant to condemn the bombers in london.

Actually the condemnation was instant and heartfelt. (In actual fact those bombs killed Muslims and affected areas where there was a high Muslim population). But by the same token how many churches are condeming those Christians who are dropping bombs on cities? Its all tribalism you know.

Well……… I guess Islam has a highly serious moral outlook and it takes every precaution to preserve it.

When two people date each other and fall in love it means that there will be a burning passion within them, which may lead them to commit a sin. So I think it is not the feeling or dating itself, which may be the subject of disapproval but what may come about as a result of such a thing, can be subject to strong censure.

These days some people make a great issue of covering women’s face. They are entitled to their view but they should not make it the central issue of Islamic society because it is not. They should at least respect the view of the majority of scholars who are in agreement that a Muslim woman need not cover her face or the lower part of her hands up to the wrist when she goes in public.

Islamic society is one, which does not confine a woman in their homes in a way that it is imagined. If we look carefully it appears to us that it was a society where women went about their business freely.

However she must still cover her head, right? I know some of the women in Turkey are having trouble with the fact that they no longer allow women to be veiled, only if working for the government (I believe). They wish to express their faith in the manner they believe is proper.

A lot of people in America don't realize that many Christian women cover their heads as well (when they enter churches). I know it is a comon practice in several european countries and I know Christian women here, of the older Christian faiths who do it also. I would speculate given the similarities between the two religions that the practice stems from the same root (though I have admittedly done no research into it myself.)

There are, but they can be difficult to find. Most put "other religion" or "nonreligious" (many reasons). I joined this site because it is free and it is not just about dating (though that is nice too--and dating is not all about sex). Mostly I like to chat and read the forums.

The "picture thing" is a personal decision. I am also a member of qiran (Muslim dating/matrimonial site) and you find plenty of photos there. People like to see with whom they talking. I was not brought up Muslim and do not have a problem with photographs...but as I said, it's a personal decision. Many people on this site will not email you without one.

Yep, enviro is right. I'm Turkish. Veiling for women is forbidden within government buildings and/or schools. Some say, that isn't religious freedom. I'm loving it though.

People who use and abuse religion or try to enforce it on to others aren't supposed to have religious freedom. Turkey is the most modern country in the World that has a predominantly muslim population. The best economics, best military, best living standards, best government among all other mainly muslim countries.

That's for a reason. Reasons like seperation of church and state, having modern, European standard constitutional laws, etc. Still I had to leave. US is much better in contrast.

Anyways I got side tracked on the topic :-)

Personally, I'm not a muslim in any way. I guess, I could say I'm heavly a scientific person.

As far as what I find wrong in the religion. I think it'd be very much shorter if I told you what I find right with it.

Andy; about the 6 & 9 year old 'brides'.......in other cultures(including Europe) it was normal for kids to be married...........but they waited years before they actually had a real marriage.A lot of times, one died before that happened..but until then; the 2 families were allied.
BTW.......my brother married a muslim(she's from Fiji); he converted; they have 2 kids. His sister in law married a catholic;neither one converted........

You know I've always wondered why all the "creationism vs evoluionsism" is fought by christians only. I have my own ideas as to why, but I'd like to hear the words form someone who's not christian or athiest.

First of all, your bf can't ask you to convert to Islam. Based on what I know, there is no compulsion in religion and the following verse confirms that:

"Let there be no compulsion in religion:
Truth stands out clear from error"
[Al-Qur’an 2:256]

You only convert because your heart believes in God and you do it for God, not your bf.
