| If a woman drove a 'better' car than you.... Posted: 2/3/2008 7:57:14 AM | If you found out a woman you were meeting drove a more expensive car than you, would it bother or intimidate you?
Truthfully, men....how do you feel when a potential date tells you she drives a higher end car (Mercedes, BMW, etc....)?
What does it say to you? | |

| If a woman drove a 'better' car than you.... Posted: 2/3/2008 8:02:38 AM | I would say that it doesn't matter. That is as long as she doesn't make it an big deal by always bringing it up.
To my way of thinking the year , make and model isn't important, as long as the vehicle is maintained in safe and dependable working condition. A vehicle saves shoe leather it doesn't make the person.

| If a woman drove a 'better' car than you.... Posted: 2/3/2008 8:06:08 AM | If it just got dumped upon me with a basis for that in the conversation, it would tell me she's materialistic and that money is important to her way of date-thinking.
But then again, I don't discuss jobs, neighborhoods, houses, cars, etc., until the 3rd or 4th date. I want to find out about the person, first.
And if a woman spends too much time trying to dig these facts out of me, it tells me she doesn't have much creativity or a truly inquisitive nature in her soul...or that I don't intrigue her enough to care about the more interesting aspects of life.
99% of all first few dates are almost like job interviews. 0% of mine are. If that's the conversation you want to have, find someone else boring to have it with. We'll discuss it later...after I know if I like you as a person.

| If a woman drove a 'better' car than you.... Posted: 2/3/2008 8:24:04 AM | Hey ggirl....I know you are looking for answers from the men on this, but I'll tell you some of the responses I've gotten when we get on the topic of cars....
- wow...nice...good for you....you deserve it - bet you look sexy driving that - how about we go for a spin, i'd sure like to try out that front seat - geez....i could never spoil you like that - let's meet at the nearest timmies...lol
It's a car, guys....a piece of metal with 4 tires....it doesn't define us...some people spoil themselves with nice clothes, homes, whatever....it wasn't meant to show off or intimidate anyone....it was meant to spoil me because i deserved it...lol

| If a woman drove a 'better' car than you.... Posted: 2/3/2008 8:29:04 AM | Generally attitude is all that matters to me - the right attitude that is. The wrong attitude might intimidate me, but not because of the type of car, but rather because of the type of person the woman is.
However, I would certainly ask myself why the need for the high end car? What is she compensating for, if anything?

| If a woman drove a 'better' car than you.... Posted: 2/3/2008 8:33:34 AM | | As a few others have stated, it would depend on whether or not she made a big deal out of it. I believe that some people are more inclined to pay a little more for a higher end, and thus quality, product whether it's a car or a television set and some buy higher end items as a status symbol. Determining her intent on a purchase isn't really what dating is about but if she makes it obvious that it is a status symbol then I would move on. | |

Other than that, though, it wouldn't really bother me. Afterall, I'm used to driving newer cars too. For instance, my current one is a good-looking bright yellow 2004 Dodge Neon. It is funny how some women view it as being just a car while others see it more of as a dream car. Weird, isn't it? Afterall, it's just a Neon.

| If a woman drove a 'better' car than you.... Posted: 2/3/2008 8:39:00 AM | People worry too much about 'crap'.
The biggest turnoff to me is when someone (doesn't matter what the sex...we're talking general conversation) starts bragging about all the crap they have. Who cares? Does it really define the person? I hope not. I would rather not spend my time with shallow people who think life is all about 'stuff' and not about interacting with other humans in a human way.

| If a woman drove a 'better' car than you.... Posted: 2/3/2008 8:44:36 AM | Most men I've dated are intimidated by the truck I drive. I have no clue why..I chose my vehicle based on performance, gas mileage and overall reliability for the next 10 years. And I'm sporting a United States Coast Guard license plate on my front grill.
I haven't a clue why a man looks at my truck and cowers in fear...haha! I tried to post a pic of my "baby" on the site and it's a no go...oh, well.

| If a woman drove a 'better' car than you.... Posted: 2/3/2008 9:08:43 AM | It doesn't matter to me what you drive as long as you don't define who you are by it!
I have some nice cars but usually don't show up on a date driving one of them for that same reason. I want a woman to get to know me for who I am rather than what I drive.

| If a woman drove a 'better' car than you.... Posted: 2/3/2008 9:14:04 AM | My aunt used to think like that (more expensive = better). Sometimes it applies, sometimes it doesn't. I've learned that more expensive just means more expensive.
In direct context with the original question, I couldn't care less if my date drives a tank, a Mercedes LSXZCTRED, a '72 Gremlin with 3 1/2 tires, a $ 7000 racing bike, a $ 25 10-speed or a skateboard. As long as looks and personality are there, her ride means nothing.

| If a woman drove a 'better' car than you.... Posted: 2/3/2008 9:18:02 AM | | Who cares. A new automobile is the worse investment you can make. sure they have the new car smell for a while, and they drive really nice. They also depreciate several thousand dollars as soon as you drive them off the lot. I drive an 89 ford ranger with 250,000 miles on it. I paid 3,500.00 for it 11 years ago, and have had to put very little money in it since. I plan on buying another automobile in october, and you can bet it wont be a new one either, and after I get it, I will drive the wheels off of it just like i have this one. Keep the high car notes. give me a nicely used auto, and I'll bank the cash. lol | |

It would likely mean that she carries a high debt. Not impressive at all these days.
ummm... what if it is paid off?? can't make a judgement like that... I have a nice car.... and I paid cash for it... no debt... well except for a mortgage....
I don't care what someone else drives... I dated a guy for years that had a car but preferred the bus.... as long as I am not the only one doing the driving... and my feet don't hit street when I am in his car... it really doesn't matter...

| If a woman drove a 'better' car than you.... Posted: 2/3/2008 9:20:13 AM | As a car freak, I drive an old Mustang...if you know what "rat rod" means, you get the idea. Except for this winter, where I'm driving my mom's economy car, since I don't live with her but am trying to take care of her.
Hence...it wouldn't be hard to meet someone with fancier wheels than mine :) I would respect that, b/c if you aren't a mechanic, and you live up here in the frigid North, why not spend the $$ on something that starts every morning, and doesn't spend time in the garage?
If anything, it could tell me that she is one who solves her troubles, rather than just complain about 'em. and being a car freak, I'd be curious to find out how she likes her car, etc.

| If a woman drove a 'better' car than you.... Posted: 2/3/2008 9:27:35 AM | LOL, lot of assumptions just for driving a nice car.
When I met my boyfriend he drove an old beat up VW bug and I drove a 10 year old high end Mazda. My Mazda croaked, but Mazda stopped making my car. So I drive a Lexus now. My bf still drives the same old VW, and will until it croaks.
All this means is when we take long trips we take my Lexus because it's more comfortable, not to mention more reliable.
Most people who buy high end cars can afford them, and I wouldn't buy anything I couldn't pay cash for. I don't even have a mortgage, and never have had a mortgage.
I'm leasing my car through my business, but if I retired I could pay cash for the car tomorrow.
The only thing you can tell about a person who has an expensive car, is that they have an expensive car. It doesn't say anything else about them.

| If a woman drove a 'better' car than you.... Posted: 2/3/2008 9:29:32 AM | I would say so what?
Personally speaking I couldn't give a crap what my date/partner drived - provided I didn't have to spend time fixing it for her right before she dumps me!!
I drive a Skoda Fabia Estate - I need it for work & my diving equipment so it is a car of necessity for me - I need the space it provides. If I had my free choice though I would be driving a 1982 DMC-12 or the DeLorian (Back to the Future car)
Yeah yeah, laugh all you want but I do like them & it is not so hard to get more power out of them + they don't rust unlike my Fabia!
That is my 2 cents | |

| If a woman drove a 'better' car than you.... Posted: 2/3/2008 9:39:37 AM | It not the car its the person behind the wheel. Go out and get a good feel for her.
