Posted: 2/8/2008 6:05:49 AM | | I've read a lot recently about people not using the My Matches feature, and I don't blame them. But do people use the search feature? It's the best way I've found to see what's out there in your area with your criteria. I sometimes wonder if people do their profile then just sit and wait for the magic to happen. Not that searching has worked that well to turn up dates, but at least I FEEL like I'm doing something. | |

Posted: 2/8/2008 6:17:51 AM | I've never once used the search feature; it never even occurred to me to use it. Shoot, between the "last 10 to check their mail" stuff that never, ever changed and the always full inbox, there wasn't any interest or time to do so. 
I think your participation in the forums will expose you and serve you better than the search feature. :) | |

Posted: 2/8/2008 6:21:48 AM | I use the search feature quite often during the times I'm trying to make new contacts, it's not bad, you can choose to filter search results by their age, ethnicity, distance, what type of relationship they're looking for, etc.
The one thing missing: you can't filter by Body Type! 
What a shame, it would help me cut down the search time tremendously if they had that feature built in, and the same for in the My Matches section. That portion is nearly useless because it doesn't allow you to put in body preference settings, nor can you demand they have profile pics, so the list that's populated has like one - two potentially-attractive contacts on a list of 20+! 
Oh well, since it's free I can't really complain since I don;t have nearly enough free time to design my own dating website! | |

It has, but it seems that no one within 500 miles of me reads the forums or at least is interested in emailing me. I've gotten a few 'pen pals' though.
BTW, it's nice to finally meet one of those women whose Inboxes are overflowing. I thought you were just mythical creatures these POF men made up | |

Posted: 2/8/2008 6:53:27 AM | Guess I am one of those that sits back, I don’t use either feature. The only people I have ever emailed first were people from the forums. Well, wait there was this one man before the restriction was placed on photos that had a profile photo of the Creature from the Black Lagoon and I just had to write and compliment him on his sense of humor. He was on the "last 10 people in your area that checked their email" section. I laughed so hard when I saw it. I am such a goofball if he had asked I probably would have met him just by that photo, but I was probably too fat for him! LOL!
While my inbox may not be as full as FG’s, I get several new contacts a week though the majority never go further than just a few short emails. I regularly correspond with several fellow forum posters and baseball fans. On the other hand I am not one that frets about not being involved or not having a date every Friday or Sat. night, I take opportunities as they arise. | |

There are also not as many members in Ireland as in America or Canada so slowly sifting through members is not impossible but a bit tedious. Don't think my participation in Forums would help me much either, what with my location. My inbox far from full but, still rather happy to be on POF as I am meeting people I otherwise wouldn't meet in my small little town. :) | |

Posted: 2/8/2008 7:00:53 AM | I think that a lot of women tend to use the feature less then men do. Lets face it, as a woman all you have to do is create a profile and some random guys will find you. Of course these guys are most likely using the search feature.
If you want better success in finding someone, everyone would have to use the feature and find people matching what you are looking for. My SO and I did an experiment on here after we first met. We never ran across each other even though we signed up to the site within months of each other.
I know I was actively seeking when I first signed up and never found her profile. We actually met at a get together and both found each other attractive. After we started dating, we changed our profiles to match each others. All the same interests etc....
We communicated through the site as well as on the phone and through MSN. Checking our matches constantly when ever we were online. We would both be online at the same time and still never matched up. I had even been on dates with people who showed up on my matches prior to this point and it was clear these people were not a match for me.
Long story short... if you want to find someone on this site, the get togethers are still the best method of meeting new people but using the search feature is a close second. | |

This is a rural area, and the same guys keep coming up in my searches. I've emailed some of them, even dated one. He got a new user name and profile, came up in my search again, and I thought "wow, this was an interesting profile", then realized....I just broke up with that guy (different user name). It would have been embarassing to contact him "Hey, I liked your profile...."  | |

There have been odd times when I've used my guts and approached a man first, but somehow I must have chosen the wrong ones to cut my teeth on... LOL I'm more inclined to browse profiles while waiting to see who'll email me next... Perhaps that's why I sit on the forums so much instead of out dating and meeting new people! Shame on me! | |

Unfortunately, with so few using the forums it makes it hard to find them in the searches. | |

lol...pleased to meet you! But hey, just because it was full doesn't mean it was full of anything yummy, lol, or that it wasn't a pain in the butt to deal with! Shoot, the bulk of my mail was from married folks, or the very special "married but separated" folks, or those just too far away to swipe a lil sugar from. Then too, I was far too concerned about answering every single letter, which left me precious lil forum time, so eventually I changed my age restrictions to 99 and then hid my profile, just to chill a bit and enjoy some freedom again. Nope, I don't miss those days one bit! | |
