FAQ Reply with voicemail

I just noticed a new feature where we can reply to a message using voicemail. I've not noticed it before. How does it work?

As you can see on profiles with pictures and your emails there is now a option to reply with a Voicemail.

1. SMS messages only work in the US at the moment I believe.

2. The in your contact/phonebook allow you to redirect calls to either your cell phone or leave a voice mail in your POF inbox.

3. At no point in time will anyone know your real phone number. If you want to call someone a fake phone number is generated. If the recieving user doesn't have an account or they are routing calls to their inbox you can only leave a voice mail. All voice mails will show up in their plentyoffish Inbox.

4. To signup for this, click on a user you want to leave a voice mail, either from the Leave a voicemail link on their profile or from the link provided when you are reading a message from them and follow the instructions.

If the recieving user has added you to their contacts and set calls to be fowarded to their phone you will connect with them live. (think of it as a fancy conference call system)

There are no charges for the system. But you will be charged your standard fees by the phone companies if you are calling a long distance number or are sending SMS's etc.

Note: This was just anounced this evening - EXPECT some glitches for the first while, it probably has to be tweaked and prodded until all the kinks are worked out.

evidently you have to also here in the US....which I didn't and now just carries me to a number that says my number isn't recognized, and won't allow me to back and add in the 1. Just waiting for all the kinks to be worked out. Have received voice mails with it and that part is great. Just can't leave voice mails for anyone else at the moment.

There was supposed to be something similar in the IM feature, I don't think it ever worked right. I think Admin has been looking to replace it with "something that will work and people will use", or words to that effect.

This must be it.

Spares People from running out getting a Phone Card to prevent the Recipient from seeing your Number. Even those Services that supposedly block Home Numbers and such ... well there are all sorts of Phone Cracks available for that now.

There are no charges for the system. But you will be charged your standard fees by the phone companies if you are calling a long distance number or are sending SMS's etc.

However, the Long Distance Rates by your Phone Company may be much higher than those charged by Phone Card Providers.

I've tried it here in the UK, put a 0 in front of the number you have to dial to register and everything seems to work ok.

I've tried the system three times but it takes forever to load. I haven't been successful as of yet. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Am I to put my own phone number in the first blank field and pick my own pin? It looks like it's churning when I do that.

I'm from Canada and the first time I tried this it worked great. The second time I tried it I was prompted to enter my own country, phone number, and PIN again, which I did, and then it told me "This User Already Exists". I don't get it; this must be a glitch as it should have probably recognized who I was and skipped this screen altogether as I've already set-up my number before.

One thing to note, if your phone is set up not to display your phone number when you make calls, this POF system won't work as it needs to be able to confirm that the phone number you're calling from is the same as the one you entered in the first screen. You can usually disable the number blocking feature on your phone by punching in a code like *82 or *98 before you dial out. The actual code you use will depend on your telephone service provider. Call them if you don't know the code and they will give it to you.

When I first tried to set this up I used the second number I have on my line. The displayed number isn't that number so it couldn't verify it, now when I go back to change it the screen to put my number in doesn't stay on, it moves right into the screen to call and put in a code but when I call it says my number has no associated code. Is there any way to reset this?

I just had someone send me one and I am absolutely NOT interested in receiving them at all. Did not and will not sign up for it so I don't want them in my inbox.

Can I shut that off, like IM?

Neither am I interested in signing up for this service. I hate phones and answering machines.

So can someone send me a voice mail even if I didn't sign up for it? And if I did open it up, would that make me a "member" automatically or would I have to sign up to even open it up in the first place?

In which case, I'd have to unread/delete I guess , which could be seen as offensive to some I suppose....in which case I could
just write a disclaimer in my profile saying I don't wish to sign up for this service...I guess... I suppose...I think...I don't know...arghhh!

How can I change my phone number so that I can call up my contacts with my cell phone... I put in my HOME PHONE LANDLINE NUMBER and when I use my cell phone the Jingl thing rejects me and even though I delete all my contacts and "start over" it still thinks my number used for contacts is my HOME PHONE...

How do I reset, redo or change my phone number so that the Jingl system will ACCEPT my cell. I didn't know at the time here on POF that I had to put my CELL in that I use for long distance calls and my HOME PHONE without long distance service is in there!!!
Please help!

So can someone send me a voice mail even if I didn't sign up for it?

Yes. You can not shut it off, nor prevent receiving Voice Mail Messages either.
You will just have to delete the Message like any other Mail you don't want, block the User if you feel its called for.

can you please delete this from my profile.i have met a guy on pof. and we are talking. i didnt know this was on my profile.could you please get rid of it

The Leave a Voice Mail! Link itself is not removable from your Profile. You could however Hide your Profile to stay off the Search Radars.

Can I shut that off, like IM?

No. There is no Function to shut it off. None are expected to be forthcoming either.

I signed up for Jangle and almost immediately started getting spams on my cell phone! Are they selling our number to your advertisers? These are directing me to visit gotspringcrush.com, ugotacrush.com and outdebt.com

Yes, Voice Mail is expected to pound your Phone with SMS Message Advertising, Jangl's Revenue is on the same Basis as Plentyoffish's, hence a free Service.

Are they selling our number to your advertisers?

Probably no different than this Site which really only has your E-Mail address and nothing else. But Jangl will have your Phone Number, and whether there will be any more Spam because their Database may be shared with other Advertisers is not known at this Point. Below is what I got from from their Website.
