So what's up in Tennessee?

I see hardly anyone seems to post here on a regular basis. The other states are running circles around us! We can't have that! Lest we forget we are Proud Tennesseans!

So what's up with that? I even saw tumbleweeds blowing down Main Street just a couple of hours ago.. And the red carpet wasn't even unrolled.. Not a good sign..

Okay, so how do we perk things up in here? Gotta show some signs of life. What if people start to talk? Like them danged Yankees for instance. We could get a bad reputation..

Inviting thoughts and ideas for breathing more life into this place..

This is one of those danged yankees you are talking about here in Michigan. My parties that I host here are awesome. We have to turn people away from our parties or they just have to wait in line We are coming to Tennessee next month and not a Party in site, what is up with that. LOL Darn Tennesseans don't even Partaay!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And here we thought we were gonna have some fun with all of you southerners. Oh well!!!!!!!!

I dunno LakeViewLady..

As you can see, we hardly ever post in the forums... Tumbleweeds are absolutely taking over in here!!

By sheer coincidence there was a party in TN tonight, Music City. But it was the first one in two years.. I didn't make it, but I hope it went well.. Some have said the cover charge was a little too expensive. Still, that isn't a common occurrance around here.. I know attempts have been made to have POF parties elsewhere in the State too, but most of them seem to fall through before the date arrives..

I just don't know what to make of it all.. Strangest thing.. I don't wanta suggest Tennesseans are not social animals, but I don't really know what to say..

Suth'nBoy,
I was just joking with you. It is not easy to put these parties together. And most do not want to take on the responsibility that comes with it. Believe me I know, I am doing them here in Michigan in different areas just for that reason. People want the parties to go to, but either do not know how to get it going or don't have time to do it, or just don't want to. So getting them going is really difficult especially when you have to choose an area and then find the right club to hold them in.

Please don't think I was being rude here, that is just not me. We were just hoping that we could meet up with some of you while we were visiting Tennessee.

Naahh.. Wasn't thinking that at all.

But as a danged Yankee from outta town, and as such, having a fresh, new perspective, what would you suggest we suth'ners do about all the tumbleweeds blowing through here?

The wind changed direction............Hello from the Knoxville area. We tried to get a group here, but fell through. They tried to do a NYE in Cleveland and that bombed, not enough interest. I would love a party, meet-greet, etc.

I guess I brought some of those tumbleweeds with me, sorry.

Desert,
I host parties here in Michigan, and I have a great time and the turn out is great. I have made so many great friends with the hosting. It is ashame that you don't have any in Tennessee. I will be coming to the Pigeon Forge area next month for a few days, needed to get away and always wanted to go to Tennessee, and we were hoping you had a party going on there. Or to maybe even just meet up with some fellow POF'ers while we were there

Or at least Tumbleweeds are blowing though these forums..

Unfortunately few seem to come here very often to chat, so things go whizzing by before anyone knows it.. You can post something, and check back in a week or so, and pretty often you're still the last post.. Hence the tumbleweeds that have me so concerned..

But seems to me that a get-together is called for with LakeViewLady cuz she is just visiting from way up in YankeeLand, but she's visiting over in your areas on the Eastern side, rather than over this way.. She's headed for Pigeon Forge which sure is a fun place with lots to do. And then there are the awesome Smokies there too. But it's a little too far to do for a day trip, from this side.

By the way, I've been considering Maryville for a while now. Supposed to be a great place to live I've heard. And way low crime levels compared to here. Anyone over thattaway know if all that's true?

There is so much available here. You can have small town with Alcoa/Maryville but Knoxville is nearby for theater, opera, clubs, etc. We have a lot of chain restaurants in Alcoa/Maryville--Chilis, Applebees, Texas Roadhouse, O'Charley's, Uno, plus some local chains, RubyTuesdays and Aubrey's. Knoxville has a lot of local restaurants and clubs. There is always something to do. We did have a car-jacking resulting in death in Knoxville several months ago, but it was near the university area and the folks had wandered off the 'beaten path'. That is a rarity. Normal punk stuff, but the majority of murders are by 'known to the deceased' murders. Not any racial problems. Most crime is black on black or white on white and except for the occasional bank robbery, most, as I said, know the assailant.

I love to dance and we have singles dances here at local facilities as well as CottonEyed Joes for country-western, which since it has gone non-smoking is a better place to dance. About 10:30 the college kids take over. I figure if I could have given birth to most of them, it is time to go home There are also swing/shag dance get-to-gethers and on Wednesdays there is a 80s singles dance at a club near West-town mall.

We have a full service airport but you can save a ton by driving to Nashville to fly out. There is a twice daily shuttle between here and Nashville.

The Smoky Mtns are here if you are a nature lover/hiker. Harley Davidson has The Shed which hosts music each weekend during the summer. The Foothills Fall Festival is each Oct and for 35 bucks you can see about 20 performers which would cost about a $1000 if you went individually to see the acts. There are always about 9 well known acts as well as some just entering the arena but will known names.

Re: your profile, we have a number of recording studios around here, but the only big name talent in Pigeon Forge anymore is Dolly and she is only here occasionally.

As you know drive time to the mountains--Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge is about 30-45 minutes and Nashville just a couple of hours away. Come for a visit.

Helloooooooooo Tennessee.........

I am going with Lakeview on her excursion to the beautiful Smokies. Haven't been there for quite a few years but I do remember how beautiful it is and how friendly everyone was even though I am a yankee. LOL. Sure hope we get to meet some of you good ole boys and gals while we are there.

We do appreciate your help.

If I can work it out, sounds like a plan. I teach linedancing and have to be at dances so that might cause an issue, let me know.

Well, be careful there Softouches!!

Once you get to that area and around them thar Smokies, and all that hospitality, you two bein' Yankees from Igloo-Land and all, it bein' all gorgeous and toastie over thattaway in scenic Eastern TN, and you meet up with some of them hunky suth'n gents, like TNman fer instance..

Then OutOfTheDesertGal is gonna get you out on the party-floor kickin' up them heels too, and line-dancin' and show you the suth'n ropes.. (by the way, bring your boots and hat), Heck, you may just decide to never go back home again!

I've seen it happen.. And then what?

Welcome to the Tennessee Forums Pardner!
Hope you and LakeViewLady really have a blast!

You can buy chicory coffee at Krogers here--Community Brand from LA.

Don't worry, I won't tell on you if you won't tell on me. I was born in California to a Cajun Mother and an Irish Father.

OhMyGawsh!!!

Well, I hope we can both keep a secret then OTD! Our lips are sealed!

I've lived in Cally 3.5 times myself.. That's a bit of a culture shock, huh? How do they seem to compare to you?

Re: Chicory coffee, I'm not a big coffee drinker, but when I have it at home (rarely) it's usually freeze-dried for convenience. But I'd love to get that out in the restaurants again. Oddly enough though if you ask about it here anymore, as in waitresses and the like, seldom does anybody know what you mean. Seems odd to me because it was once such a staple of Suth'n style eating..
