| been to tijuana? Posted: 2/18/2008 4:45:31 PM | | I did it before. No reason to go for 2 days. There is nothing to see really. Food is good anc cheaper that in the US. Good Mexican dinner can be around 10 bukcs. A lot of whore houses. The act is about $80. Sfae and clean... A small market bit not worth 2 days. They speak good English, cabs are handy and no lines to get back to the US. | |

| been to tijuana? Posted: 2/20/2008 11:05:46 AM | You probably don't want to stay overnight in TJ. In a motel/hotel that is Too many problems. Once you get off of Revolution Avenue....you'll see what I mean.
San Ysidro is right across the border and there are a number of good motels around there. Also San Diego is just up I-5 and there's everything up there.
As for airfare, you're probably not going to get a cheap ticket to San Diego. It's not a business destination (more a travel one) and the airlines price accordingly. if I were going out there, I'd fly into LAX or Orange Co., rent a car and drive down. Depending on traffic from LAX it's 2 1/2 to 3 hours to the border.
Just FYI:
1) Park on this side of the border and take a cab when you get to the other side. They'll be lined up outside the border control area. It's a bad idea to take a rental car into Mexico and even w/ collision insurance, you can still have headaches.
2) Watch out for the cops. While things are better than when I used to go, I understand that they are still d*cks. If you see them doing something f*cked up...just keep walking and don't say anything. Also try NOT to bump into or touch them .Even by accident.
3) Do you speak Spanish? Most of the people near the border do...but the farther you get from border, the less English is spoken.
4) Keep all your money in front pockets along w/ your passport (you should bring it) and your ID.
5) Dress down and don't wear a nice watch or jewelry. Mexico is a poor country and things happen in poor countries.
6) If you do partake of the "local talent"...make sure you only go to established places and not too far off the beaten path. If you get a cab driver that speaks English well...he'll help you out. Try to avoid going to her "house."
7) Try not to look and act like a tourist. Act like you're confident and that you know where you are going. Even if you don't.
That's a just a few things...LOl If I can help...just email me.

| been to tijuana? Posted: 3/21/2008 11:32:18 AM | | ewwww.why would you want to stay overnight in TJ? HAHA! I recommend checking it out of course but besides the whore houses a few cute lil' cafe's, some cheesy shopping and 1.00 corona's there isn't that much more... | |

| been to tijuana? Posted: 5/12/2008 5:32:35 PM | | Been there, no reason to stay there over night. I'd park your car in CA and walk over, then go back and stay in the states. It's a bunch of shops, strip clubs and that's about it. Nothing to make you want to stay there overnight even with the girls. | |
|
| been to tijuana? Posted: 5/15/2008 8:30:04 AM | | Whatever you do, don't ever get caught down by the local Mexican Police in TJ, or else it will be a **** getting back to the states. As far, as I know, that rule still applies. Even to this day! | |

| been to tijuana? Posted: 5/15/2008 8:18:41 PM | Ive been there and the first advice I would give you is to BE VERY CAREFUL. Some of the dudes over there ( shoe shine guys -street hustlers etc) will hit you in the back of the head if they're not making any money. You'll see some very beautiful women over there and probably even have sex with a few. I didn't spend the night so you'll have to determine whether its safe or not. Generally Mexico does have budget motels but always check the room first and make sure there is a decent lock on the door. And don't drink their water , you'll get sick. Take your own water over there and be careful what you eat. I wouldn't go down on any of their girls either the fact that they might have aids...I know its hard when they look like playboy centerfolds but you've got to remember thats there's hundreds of other guys visiting the place and they're there for sex also. Stay off the street as much as possible the fact that the police look for inexperienced travelers over there. Don't wonder around drunk or drink on the street. If you get caught with a gun or drugs you go to prison over there. Yes , go enjoy that beautiful vagina , buy a few souvaneers and get back over here. Good luck . | |

| been to tijuana? Posted: 5/16/2008 10:23:38 AM | I use to dive off the coast there, we prefered to be further south [better people and less corruption for the motst part]; make sure you have a VALID passport. Keep things on you, don't bring a backpack. Don't stay in Tijuana, stay on our side [its safer], when I was diving we would come into US waters, just to be safe and we were diving with sharks, lol. It's a great idea to speak Spanish, if you don't you will learn or should be able to find people who do to some degree, you might not understand them very well.
Make sure to keep an eye out for pickpockets and for corruption, a decent number of the cops aren't as they appeare. Things haven't changed, they are just a bit smarter about how to plant things on you if they really want too. Don't go alone, find a group of friends to go with, it's actually safer.
Have fun. | |

| been to tijuana? Posted: 5/17/2008 2:30:03 PM | | Went there for the day, although one hour would have been enough! | |
|
| been to tijuana? Posted: 5/20/2008 2:31:06 PM | | As everyone else is saying, DO NOT stay overnight there. I wouldn't even recommend going alone during the day, try to bring a buddy or two. If you're looking for sketchy stuff, go to TJ. If you want to see a rather beautiful (but hyper-touristy) section of Baja, keep going on to Rosarito. Rosarito is a tiny bit more expensive, but it is well worth it for the food and the beauty. TJ is kinda a dump, but even that has it's glory, I guess. | |

| been to tijuana? Posted: 5/22/2008 10:22:03 AM | I live in San Diego and have been to Mexico a hundred times... TJ's a great place to visit bars and restaurants, shop for artifacts, and soak in the cultural climate. It is also a boarder town, so you will encounter poverty, exploitation, and some seedy behavior. Don't draw attention to yourself and nothing will happen. Do not take alcohol on the streets. Tip well and you'll get great service. Keep track of your money and things. You don't need to drive down there unless you are going farther south.
Instead of TJ you should go to Rosarito or Puerto Nuevo--drive in, take the toll road 1d (I think it's 1 d) and keep going south until you see signs. This part of the highway is well kept and busy. The roads off this area are paved as well (farther down they are not paved). You can get a cheap hotel for the night at either Rosarito or Puerto Nuevo and there is camping (although the camp grounds can be loud and unsafe). Definitely EAT at some of the restaurants, some places have amazing food, drink beers and tequila, and go surfing at the local breaks... you'll have a blast. You will also meet people from all over the world.
