Posted: 2/19/2008 4:05:12 PM | I am not making this up . . . the first man I dated after my divorce had braces, and he was quite a bit older than me. I thought he was very sexy, and the braces were definitely part of his look. Other women seemed to think they were intriguing, too. I actually think the braces were initially part of what attracted me to him--they were so unusual on a man his age, and he wore them well.
I went out with that guy for two years, and he had the braces almost the entire time. To this day, I still think he was one of the sexiest men I have ever known.
So, no. I don't think they'll mess up your game at all. They might help it. | |

Seeing just a metal wire makes it look like you have all sorts of shit in your teeth), or Invisalign (depending on how much work you need), and who knows what else. I've had braces twice, the second time at 19. The results are well worth it. | |

Posted: 2/19/2008 5:49:52 PM | I had braces in my teenage years AND adulthood. Although I was more worried about the care of my teeth during that time, I tried to have fun with it. Now people comment on how straight my teeth are, and I always tell them "they're real, and they're SPECTACULAR."
I coordinated the rubber bands on each tooth to various themes throughout the year - red and green for Christmas, orange and black for Hallowe'en.......you get the idea. I started to love showing them off, and they became a real conversation starter too! You have to make the best of this situation, and focus on how great your teeth will look afterwards!
Hopefully, you don't have to wear the headgear at NIGHT - that is a romance deal-killer I have to say!

Posted: 2/19/2008 6:03:16 PM | I was about to say "no" until I saw the pic of what looks to be a V-Rod (right??). The V-Rod is definitely going to be an action killer. Get the braces and trade up for a bike that can turn decent.

It wouldn't prevent me from dating them. I think they're amazing because your self confidence will SHOOT through the roof once they come off! Just make sure you floss really well, and don't get coloured elastics...you're too old for that :) | |

Posted: 2/20/2008 7:19:26 AM | I've had them for almost a year now (thus the SN "Uglybetty"), and before I got them I figured I'd be invisible the whole time I had them (which is fine, I can always use a break); I made a big joke about being a social leper for two years, and even did a night out the weekend before I went to have them put on. That mindset lasted about a month.
On the contrary, men either don't notice right away, don't really care either way, or find it surprisingly attractive that I am improving something I'm not happy with. Which is weird, ironically I'm not sure I'd date someone with them.
But just like anything else in life, it's not the actual thing (height, weight, whatever you don't like about yourself), it's your attitude about the thing that matters. Just about the same time I forgot I had them (which gradually happens - they become a part of you), most people stopped noticing them altogether. | |

Posted: 2/20/2008 10:43:04 AM | Judging from your profile, you seem to be an all-around fun guy. Braces are braces. They are there to improve something or they wouldn't be worth while. If braces are a hang up, the person is shallow.
Personally, I would view someone with braces as someone who cares about themself. Good luck! Braces suck! LOL

When I was going for my porcelain I had temporary plastic crowns they looked no good. Even with them the dating journet still was going on with no problema. | |
