What about your gym do you like, or what made you join the gym in the first place? If you work out a lot then you send maybe 1/3 of your time at the gym...what even pushes you to get up and go? For me sometimes I just feel unhealthy, or like I'm slacking in my over fitness.

I joined Ballys too. It was very nice and clean when I joined. They took all my money, then let it do down hill and get dirty.

After that experience, I "joined" the gym that is in my bedroom. The place has all the equipment that I like. It has a TV that only plays the shows I want to see when working out. I never have to hear loud speakers, "work in", or wipe other peoples sweat puddles off the machines!

I'm fortunate that we have a private gym at work for our exclusive use. No membership, etc. All you have to do is sign an injury waiver and have access added to your security card. It's not a bad facility either. It has a treadmill, step machine, bike, elliptical, universal, dumbells, mats, etc. The only complaint is that with only one of each cardio machine, if I go in with the intention of using one machine specifically, I may have to wait. But I have timed it for around 2:00 PM. That is usually when there is absolutely no one in there. I find that since I do not have to try to "make my way" to the gym so to speak, that it is much easier to motivate to go. It breaks up my day for an hour and a bit, and it's a great feeling to attend a meeting at the end of the day feeling invigorated from a good workout and a fresh shower.

I did, however, join McFit in my hometown just so I can have a weekend option without having to drive to the GTA. McFit is so cheap it seems worth it, even if I only use it rarely.

I joined Workout24, because I'm a cheapskate. It's only $10/mo and has everything I need. I just have to watch when I go. Mondays -Wednesdays right at 5 pm they're busy. Lunch is fairly open, and after 6:30 a lot of room opens up.

My gym has it all.

It has state of the art deerskins that give me to total upper body workout with fresh air being vented in from all sides of the tree I'm under. It has a cold water dip which is really nice for detox in the form of a running creek. For lower body work I tork around 200+ barrels of grain to feed the critters I use for my very special organic diet. These barrels are really great on the abs too.

After I'm done with my upper body workout with the deerskins I get to sell them to someone else so I end up making money from my workout. For my cardio workout I am growing teenage daughters who make sure I get my heart rate up, and again, the deerskins get me breathing pretty good, getting my resting pulse to about 60.

Oh, and hauling and chopping wood really gets my metabolism going plust I get a discount heating bill (well, pretty much FREE).

$125/year, open 24/7 including holidays, with the odd exception where it's closed in the afternoon to hold a blood donor clinic.

It's at my father's place of employment, and spouses and depedants can join- as a dependant, you have to renew annually or once you're no longer a dependant, you're not allowed to get a membership.

5 treadmills, 4 ellipticals, 3 bikes, 2 steppers, and a room full of weight machines. All I ever use is a treadmill and free weights, and I've never had to wait for equipment. And they provide distilled water to fill your bottle.

I still however have to have a membership to a facility with a pool.

I love my gym! It was built on a reservation by an accomplished Canadian body builder (and wrestler), Billy Roach, who is no longer there. The gym is presently managed by two part-time employees with little to no training. The equipment is terrific and pretty - aqua blue and white. Lots of light. We service the reservation, off-reservation and residents of L'Arch, which is a community of mentally challenged adults. It costs little to nothing to use this gym.

The atmosphere is relaxed and chatty. Besides serious weight lifters and health enthusiasts, you will also find groups playing cards or just hanging out and laughing together. It has become a hang-out for the youth and I couldn't be more pleased with this outcome! When I go there, I feel as if I am at home. The down-side is that the band council is not taking the gym seriously or funding it properly and things are getting dirty and may soon fall into disrepair, particularly the treadmills (we're going through our second batch of treadmills). I am trying to organize a bucket brigade to clean and maintain on a volunteer basis. Looks promising.

I've been using this gym for about 8 years. In the middle of this 8 years I moved to another area, an upscale wealthy town, to live with my boyfriend, during which time I attended the YMCA. Amazing facility but uptight and cold atmosphere. Lots of members but they were into themselves and the mirrors and a narcissistic demeanour that their outfits or amazing bodies were being admired. After three years, I convinced my BF to join the Y and after three months he and the head trainer were in an affair. Going to the gym became a sick experience for me, even after their affair was over. It ruined something I loved.

Eventually, our relationship was over and I am back at home attending my old gym on the reservation - and I love my gym!

A local community center gym. Just your regular walk of life people who want to be healthy. I like it because there's a bit of everything and you don't have to look a certain way (overweight or super buff) to seem like you fit in this environment.

NYSC, about 80 a month. It is nice and clean. They have a lot of location in New York city and you can use anyone of them with one membership.

There is one on the top floor of a building at 34 street, you have the view of the whole midtown Manhattant

Everyone seems to have a different experience..the good thing is everyones staying healthy! I belong to 24 Hour Fitness and I have to say, I like it there. They have clubs all over which make working out convenient because I move around a lot between my house and my mothers house. And they have really great hours, some are open 24 hours a day. I've been interested in taking a yoga class there...almost all the classes are free with your membership so thats a plus. Sometimes I'm more into the class thing then being on the machines.

Has anyone involved themselves in any classes that you've enjoyed? or what about a personal trainer? How did it go?

I go to LA Fitness. It's pretty cool, it's usually empty in the morning so I don't have to wait my turn to use the squat rack. Only complaint is having to watch kids using the squat rack as a place to do barbell curls. SHHESSH!

Which gym are you talking about? There is the Bay Area Athletic Club, Coastal Fitness
and Downtown Fitness, here in Coos Bay. I have heard that the gym at the college is very nice and much more affordable. Unfortunately, I am addicted to watching TV while doing my cardio and the Athletic Club is the only one that has a tv in front of all the cardio
machines.

I'll probably regret saying this but one of the reasons why I joined and continue to go to my gym is it has pretty good scenery. I won't lie but a gym with good scenery does provide you with extra motivation.

you bet, it was truro, ns. about two years ago, i think. i missed last years due to living out west. there's a meet in halifax tomorrow, which i'll be at (not lifting though, only spotting/loading/helping).

ns has some nice powerlifting, unlike nb. we're the only province without a federation. i can count every person in the province who seriously powerlifts, whether they compete or not, on a single hand. only three people compete (four in may, guess who) now that's sad. but i'm hopeing to change some of that. hopefully within the next 3-5 years.

i've got about 1500 pics of last years nationals too (when they were in hali). i'm just not done sorting through all of them yet. i'll post them on there soon.

I attend a Fitness First gym and regularly do the Les Mills classes, Body Combat, Body Attack. I also do Boxercise and sometimes BodyPump and Spin. Classes are a great cardio workout and also a great way of meeting people. It certainly beats 20 mins on a cross-trainer not talking.

Oh, your profile says you live in Lakeside, so I thought you lived here. Yes, Marc still owns the athletic club.

I just got back from Phoenix visiting my dad. I loved the gym that was near his house. I had never done any of the Les Mills classes and I loved them all! I wish my gym had them.

Living in a small town does suck sometimes :(

Yeah I think taking classes are cool, you get to meet people and have a class full of work out buddies. At my gym (24 Hour Fitness) you can take everything from dance to kick boxing or pilates or yoga...they have about 30 different classes. Has anyone done the Spin Cycle class? looks hard!

24 Hour Fitness, I joined because it's literally right across the street from my apartment complex. They had some sort of special deal worked out with my apartments. No initiation fees, no processing fees. So all I had to pay up front was the first and last months dues ($71) total, and a monthly fee of $30

It's pretty small compared to most of the other 24 Hour Fitness Locations in the Houston area, but I've never had a problem having to wait on machines. It's just nice having it that close by.
