| stolen hockey stick Posted: 2/20/2008 5:48:26 PM | i was playing drop in hockey today at the rink by my house. i use a synergy ST grip that costs $150. my "backup" is a regular synergy ST that costs $140. i had my backup on the bench while i was playing. somebody waited until i was out on the ice, left drop in early, and stole my backup right off the bench. i didnt notice until it was time to leave and i couldnt find my stick. do u think my homeowners insurance will cover this? | |

I doubt it, but I could be wrong. Did you have it listed? I'm thinking no, though, because it was not locked in your house. I think they only really cover things that are on the premises.

| stolen hockey stick Posted: 2/20/2008 6:48:33 PM | | Also if you start hitting them to pay for little stuff, gives them incentive to look for ways to deny bigger stuff. Not to mention premium increases. Write it off as a lesson, leave the backup in the car or a locker. | |
|
| stolen hockey stick Posted: 2/21/2008 3:08:22 AM | | My guess is that you would have a minimum $500 deductible, so they would not pay anyways. | |

Read the policy, or talk to a rep, and find out.
|
| stolen hockey stick Posted: 2/21/2008 2:15:31 PM | sounds like you should have locked it in your car or not brought it at all.
My son plays hockey, he plays both defene and (mostly) goalie. With the costs of equipment, I trust NO ONE. If he is asked to skate out a game and fill in, his goalie equipment is safely locked in the trunk or safely kept at home.
It's just common sense...and an expensive lesson learned.

| stolen hockey stick Posted: 2/21/2008 3:36:12 PM | Cripes...call the RCMP...some idiot is running around stealing sticks that belong to that great Canadian game, hockey! How low can someone get, besmirtching the lessons of fair play, fellowship, etc that hockey teaches? The perpetrator needs to be strung up by the short ones till he becomes plucked! Oh...your insurance probably won't cover it, and you don't want to be making small claims like that so they can jsck your rates up. Heck...I made one claim and they screwed that up (repairing my computer after it got hit by lightening) and they cancelled my insurance! | |

that belong to that great Canadian game
actually, ice hockey has probably evolved from field hockey which has been played in Northern Europe for centuries. The rules of modern ice hockey, however, are derived from Canada.

| stolen hockey stick Posted: 2/21/2008 5:25:19 PM | | Well it cost you a hundred and something to know that your back up stick should have been made of wood. then no one will take it. Sorry about your luck, I had thousands of dollars robbed from me. The house insurance paid a fraction of the cost, a fraction, you would have come out with a $20 check for a hundred and something stick and the premiums you paid. | |
|
| stolen hockey stick Posted: 2/22/2008 1:49:46 PM | no, i dont use a wood stick. one time i broke my stick in a tournament and my back-up was made of wood. i couldnt do sh*t for the rest of the tournament.
i checked into it and my insurance company said the deductible would be $250.
to all u ppl saying i should have left it in the car: what happens if my stick breaks and i need a backup? im going to take off my equipment and go to my car just to get my sick? no. ppl should just not be a**-holes and nobody would have this problem.
|
| stolen hockey stick Posted: 2/22/2008 3:28:26 PM | then you bring your back up to the bench with you
not trying to be an ***hole
rough lesson learned
no matter what the case senerio is, there is potential for theft. Whether you are enjoying a friendly game of pick up hockey or at work or at a restaurant or shopping --- there is potential for theft / robbery. Use precautions and be safe.
seems like I remember there being a "Michigan most wanted" person whose m.o. was pick up hockey...I'm gonna go look and see if he's still on the list, if so, I will post that info.

| stolen hockey stick Posted: 2/22/2008 5:57:15 PM | My bicycle was stolen recently and I got it back by asking local pawn shop owners to keep their eyes open for it. Perhaps you could have the same luck. Then again, hockey sticks probably aren't quite as often sold to pawn shops.
But you never now. | |

| stolen hockey stick Posted: 2/22/2008 6:48:16 PM |
then you bring your back up to the bench with you read my original post, it was on the bench. the guy that stole it must have waited till i was busy playing on the ice, left early, took my stick in the process. nobody on the bench must have known it was mine instead of his.
wow, thanks for posting that website.
|
| stolen hockey stick Posted: 2/22/2008 9:36:32 PM | I say next time bring a cheapie wood one as a backup. If you break your good stick I'm sure you could live with a wood one for the rest of the night. A heck of a lot cheaper if it disappears.

| stolen hockey stick Posted: 2/23/2008 3:15:15 PM | Word of Caution Ya WingNut...lol Over the course of your relationship with any insurance company...they will allow you two possibly three claims before they can...and will drop you.
Trying to find another company that will pick you up as a customer then...without a huge substantial rate increase will be next to impossible, if they pick you up at all. Like most persons you probably have a deductible...even it it were say...$250.00 which is quite low...you'd still have to have a claim that exceeds the amount of your deductible to recoup any percentage of your loss. Since your stick value is under your deductible cost...you'd be throwing good money after bad to even bother with it...additionally...you'd be wasting one of your 3 allowable claims for $140.00. My advice...bite the puck on this one...and in the future...keep your eyes if not your hands...on your stick at all times...lol

| stolen hockey stick Posted: 2/23/2008 3:45:01 PM | Yeah...thieves everywhere...and you can't watch everything all the time! I can really feel for the OP here. I mean, jeeze...you are out having a bit of fun and some fool rips you off. Sometimes it is a good idea to have a "buddy system". Guys on the bench keep an eye on your stuff while you are playing, you do the same for them. Keep all the equpiment in a common area, so that a stranger can't approach it without arrousing suspicion.
OF course, there is the old "tape a movment sensor and a bomb" to your stuff...anyone moves it.."BOOM"...one thief gone. Sure, you're out your stuff...but the service you've done for society more than justifies it! Sure...and if they actually allowed you to defend your property, there'd be a lot less theft.
Anyways...some posters on here ought to quit nit-picking. It is hockey...the Canadian game (forget field hockey crap...this is way better!) which is almost a religion! Think about it...all these guys after a "holy grail" (Stanley Cup!), with leaders, moneymen financing it, whole cities going nuts over it, people ranting and cheering...yep...cool! (Glad I'm not a sports fan...I'd be as bad as some people...live, breath and die hockey!)
