| "Jeans and a T-Shirt...": Cliche of Death! Posted: 2/22/2008 10:56:55 PM | I have to ask, because I'm like, totally befuddled:
What's with the "I like a girl looks great/is comfortable in a T-Shirt and jeans, but also likes to dress up when we go out" thing?
Forgive me a cliche of my own, but if I had a nickel for every time I have read this line or some variation of it, I would be able to...um... to buy myself a boyfriend? Okay, so I never came up with a good ending for that one, but you get the idea.
So, how 'bout it, fellas? Does it occur to you your'e writing the same thing as pretty much everyone else? Do you find it worth pointing out this particular preference?--I mean, do you think it makes a difference whether or not it's there in your profile?
I don't get it! Help! | |

| Shorts and a T-Shirt...: Cliche of Death! Posted: 2/22/2008 11:00:10 PM | When given a chance to be individualistic, most people will do the same things as everyone else. Great minds thinking alike? I think simple minds seldom differ. On a similar note: if I had a dollar for every time I read about long walks on a beach.....
I want this I want that. I don't know what I want. Most doors are pretty open for me.

| Shorts and a T-Shirt...: Cliche of Death! Posted: 2/22/2008 11:00:48 PM | | I'd seriously hope I'm not saying the same as everyone else. I've never said that... whatever works, works for me. I prefer shorts and a tshirt (maybe a hoody) because it's comfortable for me and all. Wouldn't expect anything different from anyone else. | |

| Jeans and a T-Shirt...: Cliche of Death! Posted: 2/22/2008 11:10:45 PM | For some people it is an important preference.
I used to put "I like a woman who can be described as the tom boy who went a little girly" to get the same thing across. I don't want some woman who doesn't get her hands dirty nor do I want someone who doesn't clean up well when going out.
Some people have more imagination than others. You will be surprised the amount of cliche's you will see on many people's profiles both male and female.
** I am fun, intelligent and independent ** I am down to earth ** I want a guy who is funny and makes me laugh blah blah blah
We all use them. If they work or not is another story.

What's with the "I like a girl looks great/is comfortable in a T-Shirt and jeans.... Translated: She should be hot, lithe, seductive, and thin enough to pull it off and not look like a 10 pound sausage in a 5 pound sack. Used to dressing down and not minding being seen with an equally sloppy under-dressed slob.
...but also likes to dress up when we go out" Translated: Can afford to buy her own fancy dress (sexy) clothing, not mind showing a little (or a lot of) skin, and be minimally smart enough to know when to wear it.
Seriously, it seems to be a habit among some of the younger folks I see around locally- inappropriate dress for the occasion or location. It might also have to do with his list of activities- dressing appropriate but comfortable in Jeans/T-shirt for outdoor activities, or wearing a dress for a night out.
I've seen similar 'warnings' on women's profiles also for those of us Neanderthals that only own jeans and drawers full of T's and polos and consider dinner at the steak'n'brew the height of fine dining Can we get extra points for dried BBQ sauce stains on the polo?

| Jeans and a T-Shirt...: Cliche of Death! Posted: 2/23/2008 12:42:39 AM | From the Opost:
"...What's with the "I like a girl looks great/is comfortable in a T-Shirt and jeans, but also likes to dress up when we go out" thing?..."
Well, I am a "I like a girl who looks great/is comfortable in a T-Shirt and jeans (or swet pants), and does NOT like to dress up when we go out" kind of guy. And I think I am not the only one.

As you acknowledged, OP, men say it too. "I can go from jeans and a baseball cap to cuff-links and a tux"
Yeah, yeah. Whatever.
I think we are all just afraid of the snuff chewing, cap wearing, cussing, piss behind any garbage can, nightmare of an opposite sex that we have all met.

| Jeans and a T-Shirt...: Cliche of Death! Posted: 2/23/2008 4:17:34 AM | In my opinion on POF there is a lot of man bashing that goes on. And too many women taking the victim role. HERDING CATS whats your point? | |

| Jeans and a T-Shirt...: Cliche of Death! Posted: 2/23/2008 4:25:16 AM | | A man might be able to go from Jeans and a T-Shirt to a tuxedo easily, but that doesn't mean he'll be doing it much. Believe me, you're going to be looking at that T-Shirt most of the time. | |

| Jeans and a T-Shirt...: Cliche of Death! Posted: 2/23/2008 4:32:51 AM | Your extremely lame thought I was a guy "mistake" crappy Totally lacks any style at all
I know but your post reads like an angry teen boy.. I assume it's a jeans and T-shirt day.
Being that I was in Ask A Guy I thought you were just another yowler.
I did apologise :) Get over it.

| Jeans and a T-Shirt...: Cliche of Death! Posted: 2/23/2008 5:35:07 AM | If you read women's profile's you'd realise that a large number of women on here, mention in their profile that they are "comfortable in jeans and a t-shirt, but like to dress up to go out occassionally". From my experience on here, I thought it was women, not men, who were over-using this cliche.
Does it occur to you your'e writing the same thing as pretty much everyone else? To be honest with you, I've never used that clich phrase, or any other cliche while trying to email someone.
|
| Jeans and a T-Shirt...: Cliche of Death! Posted: 2/23/2008 5:36:52 AM | | I'm pretty sure my profile says , I like a girl who looks great/is comfortable in a white blouse and skirt and pantyhose and glasses . | |
|
| Jeans and a T-Shirt...: Cliche of Death! Posted: 2/23/2008 5:38:57 AM | OP: Don't make me go through a tiny percentage of profiles, and pull out all the cliche'd phrases that women use...
With so many profiles on the net, you are bound to find similiarities among them. Thats mostly because we are basically looking for the same qualities. There is just so many ways to explain them.
Also... I don't know if that many guys browse through other guy's profiles to see what they are writing.
|
| Jeans and a T-Shirt...: Cliche of Death! Posted: 2/23/2008 5:43:22 AM | | OP: its cliche because in all reality, its what most guys want. after a while, wearing a dress or skirt every day just starts to make it look like you are showing off, and not for the guy you go home to. what guy wants other guys staring at his woman all the time? | |
|
| Jeans and a T-Shirt...: Cliche of Death! Posted: 2/23/2008 6:28:49 AM | In my experience surfing profiles of both sexes, every man in jeans that I see on the street owns at LEAST a suit and most own a tux and cuff links.
Every woman passing him owns a red carpet dress and jeans.
*Insert eyeball roll*
Even the dead can dress well for an event. The difference is that if THEY pull it off ONCE they don't brag forever afterward.
T'was a one off. | |

| Jeans and a T-Shirt...: Cliche of Death! Posted: 2/23/2008 6:48:13 AM | I don't know what all the fuss is about, weather it's in a female or male profile. The bottom line is, "Please be able to dress appropriately for the occasion and keep in mind the seasons and surroundings" I don't think it should be mentioned in any profile, it's common sense and showing respect for others to dress and act (read behave) appropriately. | |
|
| Jeans and a T-Shirt...: Cliche of Death! Posted: 2/23/2008 7:06:22 AM |
it's common sense
You would think so until you see debates in "Ask a Girl" about men/boys that refuse to remove a baseball cap and won't enter an establishment if it is required.
The cliche has never bugged me that much. There are so many of them encompassing so many different topics (moonlight, beach, funny, family, successful, children, etc) that you'd have to be from another planet not to duplicate what someone else has said.

What's with the "I like a girl looks great/is comfortable in a T-Shirt and jeans, but also likes to dress up when we go out" thing?
Personally speaking, I would be content with a girl who simply 'looks great/is comfortable'.........butt naked........then again thats just me.
People are just too damn picky these days.
|
| Jeans and a T-Shirt...: Cliche of Death! Posted: 2/23/2008 7:26:03 AM | | OP, don't sweat it. When you see something lame and generic like that, move on. There's a thousand guys who don't put much effort into their profiles and there's an equal number of unimaginative women. | |

"I like a girl looks great/is comfortable in a T-Shirt and jeans, but also likes to dress up when we go out" thing?
Thank You OP. I have learned much from this thread. My profile now reads: "I want a girl who looks comfortable in just a pair of jeans" I was never that into that whole T-shirt idea anyway.
