I love olive oil. I eat it on everything! And, it has to be EV.
Yesterday I saw some Australian EV olive oil. It was only $1.99 for 500ml! I figured, I couldn't go wrong....haven't tried it yet.

Anyone have any experience with Australian oil? I know they are making some designer oils in California...why not Australia?

I do not know that brand but some brands says OO and can be quite cheap. the deal is that they usually have about 60-70% of soy oil. Because it is under $2 why not to just try and see how it goes....

If you wanted a great EVOO, there is a company out of Palestine that is doing a great oil. The proceedings are used to house and educate kids, and other community efforts. Now, that's oil used for the better. Not so great of a deal, but you will be making a huge difference for the better in the life of another human being.

There are a bunch of Italians that moved to Australia decades ago and are now coming out with world class wines and olves grown there. It's worth a try. Although at $1.99 it may not be one of the great ones, but if it isn't stale it should at least be interesting.

Worst case you can give to somebody with a diesel and they can stick it in their fuel tank and clean out their injectors with it.

I used to buy only olive oil, but now I get the Smart Balance oil with Omega IIIs. I figure I might as well get those when I use oil, plus it costs about half the price of olive oil:)

I forgot to include the name...it's called Red Island EVOO. I saw one review on the net. He said he paid $5 for it.
I'm outside of New Orleans, LA , but I would assume it is available all over...

LOL you haven't been to Michigan, have you??? Not much is available here. I often wonder if we are still in the USA.

When I lived in Texas, California, Virginia, New York, Colorado.... I used many different types of olive oil...Iraqi, Syrian, Lebanese, Israeli, Italian, Spanish, California, Moroccan, Turkish....they all have different tastes and qualities. Here, I have no idea where it is from LOL kidding, but all I can get in most places without driving more than an hour is blah unheard of brands from California left-overs and I feel I waste my money because there is no flavor. Talk about cost! Here it is quite costly.

Some people would wonder if Louisiana is part of the USA also..lol...we are often compared to other third world countries. We do like to eat here, so good ingredients are readily available and people here appreciate distinctive tastes.

You can always turn to the internet to get oils, cheeses etc...if you can stand to pay the freight.

Oh believe me, I know where and how to get anything I want, but I have been a completely self-supporting, full tuition self-paying student for 5 years now (soon coming to an end). Imagine that. A woman who has never known low-income, muchless poverty suddenly living on practically zero for a long haul and having to endure todays pre-adult culture face to face daily.... I am afraid, I am permanently altered. And don't even get me on the subject of education in this country LOL At this point, I need a very long trip

Hi all,

That red island brand sounded family so I just went and looked and yep I have some there.
It's light in flavour and a clean if any aftertaste. Personally I perfer a more robust oil for my fresh thick bread and balsamic or as a simple dressing to pasta ( cream sauces and pasta just seems wrong to me).

Mate, for $1.99 you are on a winner, though. I would have paid about about $5 for my 500ml bottle locally here in Oz. It is 100% cold pressed OO.
With no disrespect, but I'm glad we are a small nation most of the time, unlike the US. For instance, we don't have 30 different variety of milk with an assortment of additives to choose from. Likewise our OO. About the craziest thing we have had here is "I can't believe it's not butter." hehe

Give the oil a whorl and let us know what you think..

cheers,

yes, Red Island is rather light...but still good...now I can't find it for under $10 for 500 ml. it's very good for the day to day OO...salad dressing...on veggies etc. I save the good stuff for dipping.
