| Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release Candidate Posted: 2/25/2008 4:28:51 PM | People who BETA test on a production system are morons...
You beta test in a VM or a dedicated and isolated installation, leaving your everyday [6 or more month old stable install] safe and untouched.

| Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release Candidate Posted: 5/15/2008 9:30:35 PM | Windows update keeps trying to get me to download it. I am not sure yet, because I have seen some message boards saying it's just spyware. I would not be suprised seeing as how accenture.com has contracted with the NSA to spy on everybody that uses Internet Explorer. Microsoft has made a deal with the gov. to allow them to put keyloggers that are undetectable to known anti-spyware programs. Internet Explorer is the portal for this mass invasion of government spying. I just find it less than coincidental that the deal just went through recently, and now all of a sudden they're sticking that ad in my face everytime I go to Windows Update to get a hardware update, Grrrr.
From annoyances.com sp3 discussion board:
FYI If you haven't installed SP3 yet - don't. It added some extra spying goodies that sends a lot of extra info straight down the pipe to Microsoft. For your convenience and peace of mind (of course) it does it transparently so you don't see it happening
I believe it's kinda like the microchip 666 you know satanic chip implant from big brothers at Microsoft. HaHa Does anybody REALLY think they CARE about our online security? That's what they want you to believe. Yeah, right! And just like the chip implant it cannot be removed!

| Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release Candidate Posted: 5/15/2008 9:36:53 PM | | I'm waiting for the hords to infect themselves with it before I take the leap. When I do install it, it will be onto a clean formatted drive from a slipstreamed pristine copy, so it will have no excuses. Once that's finished, I'll go and download a hours worth of critical updates for it.. | |

| Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release Candidate Posted: 5/15/2008 9:59:50 PM | | According to VR-Zone Microsoft in June will start forcing people to update if they aleady haven't updated to SP3 via automatic updates. Instead of it being optional like it is now, they are going to change it to crtical. The only way to stop it from downloading and installing automaticly is to change the automatic update settings by either "Show me new updates and let me choose which to one to download and install" or completely turn automatic updates off altogether. | |

| Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release Candidate Posted: 5/16/2008 8:17:25 AM | | That is not a good thing since most people won't be prepared to install sp3. They have to shut off virus scanners, spyware scanners, etc otherwise it can be a bloody mess. | |

| Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release Candidate Posted: 5/16/2008 9:40:18 AM | | Even with the systems off, you still can't emulate every system out there. Some folks running some off the wall software their company gave them or something they may have picked up in college may not work as well. I beta test quite a bit of software, as I am responsible for it before deployment - and did not run into that many issues. Then again, it was no where the size, and complicated mess that SP1 was... (sigh.) Oh well.... | |

| Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release Candidate Posted: 5/16/2008 10:20:32 PM | | Well I downloaded XP Service Pack 3 the full release and I had to uninstall it two days later. The XP SP3 just slowed my computer down like crazy. My when I would pull up the task manager the svchost exe would be at almost 97 percent. At first I thought it may have been my firewall because I do have a release of a firewall that does have some error issues sometimes and sometimes tax the the single cpu that I have but realized it was the XP SP3 since now my computer is back to normal since I removed it. | |

| Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release Candidate Posted: 5/17/2008 2:39:49 AM | | Some people say for best results you should reformat your hard drive and slipstream SP's into a Windows OS, so that it can all install at once and avoid any corruption or conflicts with past updates or programs. Kind of sad that Microsoft in recent months can't put together a decent SP without having to resort to reformatting your pc first for best results. | |

| Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release Candidate Posted: 5/17/2008 8:41:48 AM | OK I tried to download it with my Spybot Search and Destroy Resident Tea Timer going, and the download failed. That tells me that my resident shield is protecting me from this update. What really gets me is how aggressive Microsoft is about demanding you download this. They don't even give you an option of *Do not show this update again* like they give you for all the othr ones. That makes me suspicious, and I won't be trying again to upload it. They don't even tell you what it is because they know if they were forthcoming about it that nobody would want to put that on their computer. I've seen more and more on the boards that it's made thier computer run unknown programs in the background, as if the whole machine has a mind of it's own and the user no longer feels in control of his machine.

| Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release Candidate Posted: 5/17/2008 9:01:56 AM | serendipitious don't waste your time with Spybot or any of that crap, I use sandboxie, it will prevent spyware infecting your system as long you run with it. I haven't had spyware over a year I still do a scan once a month and never found a thing.

| Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release Candidate Posted: 5/21/2008 10:19:00 PM | spybot is an excellent program and far from crap.
Tea Timer is an additional feature, which I opt not to use as I don't need a babysitter. It's purpose to ensure system files do not get changed, therefor you will not be able to do such a thing as update the system files with it enabled. All you have to do is turn it off.
To think any one program in particular will keep your computer clean as long as you run with it is utter fallacy at best. The fact that it finds nothing is only indicative of it finding nothing, it doesn't mean nothing is there.
Anyway, the only real sound way of upgrading windows is from a slipstreamed copy, there will be less junk back up files installed and replaced, less bloat, more "slipstreamed". If you upgrade an old instal via auto update it's just going to slow it down further and increase the chances of bugs appearing.
You can actually slipstream a hot copy, build 2600 works like a charm. What you do need is a legit serial. Perhaps that's helping too much?

| Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release Candidate Posted: 5/23/2008 1:02:40 PM | I have been using it for a year now the beta in a Modified version of xp, that I created using nlite.
one of the biggest advantages of sp3 was support for sata which was far over due along with enhancments to .dot net and mass driver support with compatability with some of vista along with patches and updates to Improve on the reliability of windows
which Include new crash support , that connects live to windows servers to help and suggest fixes works well soemtimes , takes a few crash reports, Improved dr watson , new visual basic update library to help with compatability with Installing new applications
one of my gripes was the new IE7 Intergrated into the beta of sp3 along with intergrate msn and windows live , I removed booth of them
a few other gripes are updates to windows firwall disabled alot of my usual apps that worked before just had to go in and re add them , i did have at first some Incompatability with office 07 but I hear now with the official they have fixed that
good luck if you get it but take note this is first sp3 service pack as so your bound to find some problems and Incompatability check this site before you update
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936929
http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/xpsp3.asp
and alot of users are reporting endless xp reboots

| Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release Candidate Posted: 5/23/2008 9:47:15 PM | SP3 has been interesting. I got to beta test it through a couple systems, and my favorite was that it would cause some systems to blue screen if you booted them while docked, but worked fine when you weren't. Fix, uninstall SP3. They got that fixed though.
It's going to be a bit before they force it on people because there is an issue with it causing certain types of systems to crash still.
