| single men in their 30s living alone with a dog Posted: 3/1/2008 1:22:42 PM | | funny thing happened to me the other night.my bass player john and i went to applebees for a couple of drinks and some munchies after practice.well while waiting for our food,i overheard two women talking, and one said,he lives alone with a dog, what a loser.so i thought, is that a stereotypical thought in womens mind that thats a bad thing?ive lived alone with a dog for 8 years .and ive dated through those yrs trying to find someone compatible, but my question is,why is there a stereotype on men that choose to live alone.a man that lives alone, does his own laundry, dishes, cooking ,cleaning, shopping, working, paying all the bills, mowing the lawn and on and on.you would think a guy like this would be a catch, why do women frown on it? | |

| single men in their 30s living alone with a dog Posted: 3/1/2008 1:25:46 PM | What they prefer someone living with their parents with a cat???
My vote: no.. men or women of any age, living alone, with or without pet(s) does NOT qualify one as a loser... Good Lord!
You actually thought about this for more than two seconds before dismissing it totally???

| single men in their 30s living alone with a dog Posted: 3/1/2008 1:28:30 PM | You should have remarked out loud enough for them to hear: "Yeah, I've dated a lot of chicks I met at Applebees and they're all pretty lousy but good for a roll in the hay."
Then turn to the women and say, "oh hey ladies, how's it going?"

| single men in their 30s living alone with a dog Posted: 3/1/2008 1:30:04 PM | I think the opposite....It sounds appealing that a man is living alone with his dog...like you say he's independent and knows how to look after his house etc and whats more he has a dog....how cute is that....
I have never heard any of my female friends stereotype a guy as a loser because he lives alone with a dog...maybe you didnt quite hear all the conversation and there was more to it....

| single men in their 30s living alone with a dog Posted: 3/1/2008 1:31:51 PM | You most likely did not overhear the entire conversation, and obviously don't know who they were referring to. The "lives with his dog" part could have been preceded by..."cheated with 5 women, drank, gambled, treated his mother like dirt, never bathed, lost 6 jobs in 6 months... AND lives with his dog. What a loser!" And just because you didn't happen to hear it all doesn't mean those women hadn't been discussing the man in question long before you started listening in.
I think you might be a a tad sensitive if eavesdropping on other people's conversations causes you to question yourself.

| single men in their 30s living alone with a dog Posted: 3/1/2008 1:39:21 PM | | I think sometimes the stereotype follows that the man is picky, a player, confirmed bachelor, doesnt want to share his things....etc I dont think people should stereotype either and would prefer a man in those conditions. Provided he doesnt keep a pantry full of peanut butter. | |

| single men in their 30s living alone with a dog Posted: 3/1/2008 1:44:30 PM | Like the previous poster said, maybe you didn't hear the entire conversation before you got there. I don't think there's anything wrong with a man living with his dog. However, there are some men, like the one that sits in the cubicle in front of me at work. He's an old kermudgeon in a 30y/o body that lives with his dog. Everything, his whole life revolves around his dog. It gets annoying after awhile. And, unfor- tunately, when his dog gets that 'doggie smell' so does he.... ewwwwww. So it de- pends on the individual. If you're a cool dude, you shouldn't have any problems. | |

| single men in their 30s living alone with a dog Posted: 3/1/2008 1:49:26 PM | If that was all they had to say about some guy, if that's all it takes to qualify another person as a 'loser', then I will happily add myself ( as a woman ) to their 'loser list' I certainly qualify if it's just the formula of "single + dog = loser". LOL
OP, some people are just shallow and petty and judgemental. That's THEIR problem, not yours.
As for the poster who said you should said something derogatory at them, I totally disagree. You only reduce yourself to their level and make yourself one of them.

| single men in their 30s living alone with a dog Posted: 3/1/2008 2:00:06 PM | | you are putting WAY too much importance on what some ditzzie woman who is extremely judgemental imo and whom you`d never wanna try ta have a relationship with anyway said.......don`t get stuk on stupidity like that. when ya hear comments like that it`s usually coming from some stuk-up bimbo.....let it go lol. | |

| single men in their 30s living alone with a dog Posted: 3/1/2008 2:15:36 PM | Some people are just idiots, people that have chosen to live alone or with a dog are making a decision, not to settle, not to bring a child into this over crowded world, not to fake a relationship. If they will wait for the right person and are smart enough to entertain themselves, dont really need anyone else to make them happy, I say go for it. For the girls at Applebee's making such judgements shows that they are just superficial, judgmental bimbos condem a person for how they live is stupid and shows that they have their minds set on a certain pattern and anything outside of that has to be called a loser because they couldnt do it, are afraid of being alone or something else that we cant guess.
I would rather a person not have children that doesnt want them, then for those people to have children out of some sense of obligation and treat them poorly, neglect them or abuse them. If a person can make a contribution without having to be tied down by children, then I say it is possibly a very unselfish way to live.
What about the people that have had children and lost them to illness, what do you say of them?

| single men in their 30s living alone with a dog Posted: 3/1/2008 3:06:15 PM | OP, Calling men losers is practically a worn out expression with some women these days. I remember a night last year when I met a few male friends of mine at a local club, we were having our drinks and talking between ourselves for about an hour, it was a week night and the club was kind of slow, and we had not even noticed a group of maybe 6 women sitting at the back of the room, They suddenly got up and were walking out when two of them approached us and asked if we were GAY! my friend said No! why do you ask? ..she then went on to say that all of us had sat there for over an hour and never approached any of them to talk or ask them to dance! at that point one of them said "guys like us are Losers anyway!! and then they left. We asked their waiter if they were drunk, and he said no way they were all drinking bottled water. So as you can see that stuff happens all the time! I wouldn't worry too much about the opinions of two people.

| single men in their 30s living alone with a dog Posted: 3/1/2008 3:17:37 PM | Have you sent that off to the Jerry Springer show or Dr. Phil? So what if someone lives alone with their pets. Geez, I guess I fit the stereotype of the "older woman living with her cats". Life is a dawg isn't it? | |

They don't. Those woman you overheard are idiots. They don't like men period. It doesn't matter what a man does because those types will turn it into a negative. Did I mention they were idiots?

| single men in their 30s living alone with a dog Posted: 3/1/2008 3:34:06 PM | | I'm withthe poster who thought that perhaps you didn't hear the entire conversation. Now we have people calling these 2 women who aren't here to defend themselves idiots. | |

| single men in their 30s living alone with a dog Posted: 3/1/2008 3:41:21 PM | | A man living alone with a dog is PERFECT, show's he is mature, independant and can care for something and keep it alive! It's the men in their 30s still with mom that's frightening and a big red flag. | |
