| Biochemistry, Insight/Skills, or Both? Posted: 3/2/2008 2:16:40 PM | Single guys are sold two different sets of solutions. One is the biochemical, such as pheromones and cologne; another solution is the social skill/psychology/sociology imprimatur, such as David D'Angelo's work. I've heard a number of theories, some based on scientific studies, that attraction is largely chemical. That is, women are attracted to men by scent, that women seek out mates with a differing biochemistry so that their children have a better chance of survival (unconsciously of course), so on and so forth. Even the unscientific findings from POF back up that school of thought by saying that attraction is determined within 30 seconds.
So if attraction is largely if not mostly biochemical, this creates a large pool of men who will never have a date or even a shot at one. (Cologne and pheromone treatments don't work long-term.) On the other hand, if it's insight or social skills that a guy lacks, then there is hope for the single man. You might argue that because both camps exist, we really don't know for sure which is more important. Yet, people swear by "chemistry", so that's why I'm throwing it out to the crowd. Which do you think governs attraction, or would it be both?

A good looking man is just a good looking man - and they're a dime a dozen - but a good looking man with a fabulous personality - THAT's what's rare and where it's at.
(ps - fabulous personality does NOT equal 'game', ie: D'Angelo)

| Biochemistry, Insight/Skills, or Both? Posted: 3/2/2008 3:25:35 PM | Women don't have a single attraction switch. Just because she has a subconsious attraction to a guy based on his biochemical make-up, doesn't mean it will win out over the many other things she finds attractive or unattractive about him. We are influenced by our genes, not ruled by them.
And I'm sure people with anosmia do just as well on the dating scene.
