Let's hear what the ladies have to say regarding men's body types

It's 2008 & since we've spent the last few centuries picking apart what women look like ~ I think it's high time we look at men & their bodies!

I've typed it in my profile & I'll type it again ~ if men are bigger than me, how are they possibly thinking it's ok to pick athletic as their body type and how come no one has pointed this out before? I tried to do a search regarding men's body types but can you believe there weren't any (sarcasm is a wonderful thing!!) on POF. If I would dare choose athletic I would have men emailing me left & right telling me, I'm fat not ahtletic & I would simply respond with ~ NO **** SHERLOCK!!

As a BBW (Big Beautiful Woman) would it be ok if I chose athletic or should I choose average because the average american (male & female) is getting bigger & bigger each year? How are BHM (Big Handsome Men) getting away with thinking they are athletic or even average? I've seen some pics of men with their shirts off & let me tell you...YOU ARE NOT ATHLETIC OR AVERAGE ~ YOU ARE FAT!! I know this might hurt some feelings but guess what...you are what you are ~ stop posting old pics because yes, we will notice if you've gained 50 lbs & look different from the pics on your profile.

I'd love to hear what other women have to say & yes, men...you can join in too! Yes, I'm aware I'm a BBW so no need to point out the obvious...I'm just wondering how others feel about the subject. Like I've said it's high time the tables were turned...I wonder if the men will like being picked apart as much as the women do ~ ya gotta love sarcasm!!

Peace, Love & Fat Girl Smooches (Yup, I typed Fat...not athletic, not average...FAT !!),

I never said it was ~ I was just throwing out a topic for "conversations". It's time to turn the tables a little, let the women be judgemental for a change.

It'll be interesting to see what others think.

Yes there is a lot of truth in what you're saying---I have 'prefer not to say' on my profile and have gotten messages from men saying "why don't you just admit you're fat"....then I look at their pic and their guts are hanging everywhere....I get a good laugh because the truth is that I am very athletic

I've heard the biggest fattest man call a woman a fatazz.

Well if that isn't the pot calling the kettle black!!

I love when fat men call women fat. Why is it they haven't noticed their own fat? I swear men view themelves through rose colored glasses ~ altered glasses!! If they would just look in the mirror they would see what we see...

I would love to tell a story.I used to own a bar, which normally was full of mostly men. All different age groups, all different sizes, but alot of chubs!! Well, anytime a heavy girl would come in, they would start the laughing (quietly) and poking fun and I would always say to them, "Hey, behave"! My bartender, who was also plump, but.... they loved her, said to them one day: "Hey, everyone of you is with a fat chick! As she pivoted around and pointed to each, one by one, she said: "You, and you, and YOU!"
Each and every man sitting at that bar, and there were many, was either married to or had a girlfriend , who, WAS A FAT CHICK!!! What's that tell ya!! LOL!! It never stopped them from acting up though!

now if its guts hanging all over that your talking about, remember men at the sge of 30 start putting on belly weight. women tend to gain in their thighs, hips and legs and men gain in the belly first. but i understand what you are posting. i have never ran into any lies about weight.

dawnfaith,

That is true...but I still can't help but wonder why it's ok for men to gain weight but if women do they are judged on it

LOL! Because men call it buff or bulking up! They see it as muscle, which is where they get the nerve to say they are "athletic"! The bigger the better! That's why they like tiny women, kinda goes back to the caveman days! LOL!

I think in most men's minds, they wish they were athletic and have a fantasy mirror they look into and flex thinking they are their favorite athlete. Or how about this one...they have that dream sequence where they are coming out the water at the beach with their body showing six pack abs and the water is glistening off their chest and they are shaking their heads and water is flying slowly left and right...oh yeah...and the women on the beach are just amazed at this Adonis who is their dream man exiting the sea shore coming onto land...lol.

Athletic? not hardly...its high time some men learn the meaning of what that means and many men do not have powerful, muscular developed bodies who are vigorously active in playing sports...lol. Anybody can call themselves athletic if they are playing against oh say..their Uncle Joe, Cousin Fred or their friends in basketball etc., why because they are involving themselves using some sort of physical skills? Could they really compete with real athletes have that strength, agility or stamina they possess? Reality check is they arent athletics...they are just having recreational fun!!

I came to POF after trying Match.com. Here is my experience thus far. If a woman uses pictures of herself from the waist or chest up, it does not matter what she says her body type is. She is hiding the bottom half. Every girl I have met in person through any dating site that did not show their entire body head to toe, ended up being very much out of shape in person, especially the lower half. This is just like women in a gym who tie their jacket's around their waist to hide their butt because they are self conscious.

I am 40, soon to be 41. I have also found the closer people get to 40, the more the use misleading pictures. I cannot tell you how many women I have met in person only to find their pictures are several years old.

And, I can obviously see that many women who are overweight chose to call themselves Curvy, when picking a body type or describing themselves. I hate to tell them, but there is a difference between curvy and fat.

What makes me crazy is when I see a fat man, and his fat wife at the mall sitting outside McDonalds eating Big Macs with their two grossly overweight kids.

Have we reached a point in this nation where people think it's ok to be fat? Especially thinking it's ok for kids to be overweight? That is like taking the kid's life and stealing 20 years off the top, as being overweight is the cause of many later in life illnesses.

I think with these dating sites it's a good idea to ask others to share more pictures which are recent, showing the individual head to toe, and clear - before meeting them. And if they refuse to have a decent set of pictures taken, it probably means they are hiding something.

I suppose their hope is to lure other people into meeting them thinking maybe it will somehow turn out ok even if the pictures are not accurate

I guess everybody has an opinion and know what they want, but, not all share the same opinion. So, in your opinion, everybody needs to be in shape and do as you do? Seems that way by your post. Ok, that's my opinion.

I'm not sure which poster you were referring to here, so I have to assume you addressed the OP.

I don't think that's what she meant at all. She's just pointing out the double standard on the site, when it comes to describing body type. A man is comfortable posting that he is athletic or average, even though he may be 30-50 lbs. overweight with a beer gut. However, if the tables were turned and a woman did the same thing, she'd be lying/deceitful about her weight.

That's how I took the original post, anyway...

No, to the post above mine LOL. I knew a guy that ran all the time. Played tennis alot. Was in great shape. His wife was short and about 250lbs. They were in love. I've seen the opposite too. It's their life and they have the right to fulfill their happiness, not have somebody tell them how to live their life.

If you are going to reference a particular post other than the OP quoting is a good idea...

I believe daveinpompano may have been misunderstood. I took his post to mean that he (like me) is sick and tired of people lying on their profiles. Plain and simple. Whether the lie be the boxes that you have checked or old, out of focus, far away, misleading photos.

People like what they like. We all have preferences. What I may or may not be attracted to physically goes out the window when I learn that the profile is a lie. I have met men who I was physically attracted to who lied about something else in their profile.... Guess what? Next.

Yes, OP. There is a double standard. There are double standards in regards to many things that we come across in the dating world. For and against both men and women. The bottom line however is to be truthful on your profile regardless of if you are a man or a woman. Be honest with yourself and being honest with others is all that much easier.

Ok, there it goes LOL. No, lies are not acceptable. Cutting down people who are overweight is not right in my opinion. There are many reasons why a person is not in top physical shape besides not working out. Not everybody is capable of doing that. Not all are capable of going to the gym everyday. There are many reasons that are too many to name.

I agree with a lot of what oneprettyangel typed ~ men do have a false sense of what they look like...that or they truly don't care.

I just want to know where I can buy the mirrors they are using although those who know me as oneprettyangel does can attest that I too think I'm skinny...lol

Daveinpompano,

I'm not sure your post is exactly what I was refering too but you have made some valid points. I agree wholeheartedly about the pictures and how people try to deceive others. I am a proud BBW who has a full length picture because I DON'T want to deceive anyone.

Here is my take on things ~ ifyou don't like what you look like & are unhappy with yourself...do something about it but for the love of God...don't make yourself out to be someone you're not. Like I've typed before...someone will notice if you've gained 50lbs overnight or if all of a sudden you woke up with some wrinkles and gray hair!!

I think Davdinpompano missed the point of this forum by posting about how other's should raise their children, liars on dating sites, fake pics whether it is this one or any other? Good grief, it is the internet and some enjoy creating false profiles and identities that is not a newsflash which many can attest to.

Just wondering Dave if you had an opinion on why most men would rather describe their body types as athletic in their profiles when it is apparent that they arent? Care to share?

spot4username ~ you won't believe this but you sort of inspired this thread!!

I've been wondering about it for some time then came across 1 of your posts yesterday & thought ~ wow, someone who tells it like I do...someone who tells it like it is. Fat is fat, a few extra pounds is just that...not 50lbs overweight, average is average and athletic is well...athletic.

You hit it on the head ***** be honest with yourself and be honest with others******

Of course most of society could use to drop a few pounds but until we do...don't deny who or what you are ~ Cajun said it best...there is someone out there for everyone!!
