| cream of wheat hot beverage Posted: 3/4/2008 8:47:11 AM | I looked online and the only suggestion I saw was to make it thinner so it is drinkable.
I think it would be good to 'blenderize' it with a banana and some peanut butter.

| cream of wheat hot beverage Posted: 3/4/2008 9:21:49 AM | this can't taste good... you know it just can't taste good...
I mean... you must have to add some fruit or something to change the pastiness of the cream of wheat.

| cream of wheat hot beverage Posted: 3/4/2008 2:39:23 PM | | ...I'd have to add a little maple syrup or brown sugar to it...maybe even some strawberry or rasberry preserves...I think it would be great....But straight up with just a little butter?...I don't think I could go for that... | |

Good thread, OP, makes me wonder about all the other unusual hot beverages our mothers might have made us out of more average things. As for mine it was hot J E L L O when sick -- and it really does coat the throat nicely and the gelatin protects it from future irritations.
When I am sick I find great comfort in drinking hot jello, probably more for the emotional comfort than anything. Ahh, nothing like a mother's love, right?

| cream of wheat hot beverage Posted: 3/8/2008 5:24:19 PM | | My mom would put any leftover cream of wheat into a tall plastic cup and stick it in the fridge. The next day slide it out so you have a whole tube, slice it, flour it, and fry it in butter. Soooooooo good. When I didn't have any cups to use, I'd either use a bread pan or cookie pan and cut into either 1/2" think slices or 2" squares. | |

There is a Mexican drink called Atole, or atol de elote, which means sweet corn porridge. It can be hot, or cold. It is basically sweet corn flour flavored and mixed with milk, period. So, making the same with cream of wheat should be a no brainer.
You can buy these in the grocery store in the International, or Mexican section. They are in individual packages and come in many flavors like banana, strawberry, caramel, chocolate, pecan, vanilla, pineapple and so on. I would think if you are going to try to make up a mix with cream of wheat, you may need to use the instant if you want a cold drink, but most atoles have to be cooked as well, some are instant, but that is a fairly new addition in recent years. Who knows what is being done to make it instant. You might get your fix from atoles. Check them out, then try doing the same with the cream of wheat.
