After the season he had, I really thought he'd be back. I definitely didn't think he'd go out on an interception.

Oh, I think I'm going to cry

I'll miss him.

This is probably a good time though. From his interviews he sounds ready. It was going to be really hard to top the season he had last year.

I'll miss him too. An old fashioned pirate. Not a lot like him in pro sports anymore.
Good luck to him.

It's about time.
Brett Favre isn't immortal like a lot of people selfishly want to think he is...I respect the man to make the decision to call it quits. He gave us a lot to think about on and off the field, what a lot people lack, being real (accepting the fact) that things happen in life beyond control and taking personal responsibility when things go wrong. Also, giving credit to those who deserve it.
Favre should be considered a role model - all around great guy.

i think it is the end of an era , as someone who grew up watching quarterbacks like joe montana , john elway , dan marino , warren moon , jim kelly and bret favre . he is the last of that era . hopefully this new generation of players can do half of what the last generation did

Favre was type of player that you could tell truly loved the game. You got the feeling that he would have played even without the huge contracts of todays pro athletes.

What a sad time for us...but he has done so much and given us so much. Not the least is the joy it gave me personally just to watch someone who truly loved what he was doing! It was always so much fun to watch him, no matter what, you knew he gave it his all.
There is just not too many athletes that have overcome their addictions the way he did and stay that way. In fact, life can get even better! But, he is a true role model, not just for what he has done on the field, or for what he has overcome, but for the good he has truly tried to do. Him and his wife are the leaders of so many charities in this area and they have done a lot to give back to the community that has helped him to be the man he is today. Anyone that saw him during the press conference regarding "make a wish" foundation can tell what a heart he has.

I'm glad Brett Farve has retired because this talk has gone on for years, so its about time. I think Farve is a great guy and done outstanding things to the game and to the Green Bay community, but its time to give Rodgers some playing time. I remember when they drafted him 1st round 24 overall. I thought this guy was going to play maybe in his 2nd season and take over for Farve, but he has waited for 3 LONG seasons. I have been wanting to see Rodgers play for a long time.

Congratulation Brett on your retirement, but it is time to pass the torch. Good luck and hopefully you get nominated to the Hall of Fame real soon.

For me, I'm sad he's retiring. But for him I'm happy. He's had one of the greatest careers in pro football history. He deserves to sit back and enjoy it, especially with the season he had. It was never easy for Favre, and I respect him for that.

I felt the same way when Mika Hakkinen retired from F1 racing, I didn't want to see him go. But it was time.

I hope he enjoys retirement as much as I enjoyed to watch him play. We were all blessed to see such a talented guy give so much to the sport we all love.

And he wasn't even on my favorite team!

I am sure we haven't seen or heard the last of him. I am sure this season we will all see him at a game in the announcement booths for some sports TV station or maybe radio. Hey maybe a assistant offensive head couch or something too.

Good luck Brett Favre

I remember when he first started playing for the Packers, fumbling and throwing interceptions every other play. He cracked me up, and Mike Holmgren's reactions to his poor decisions were priceless, throwing his arms into the air and yelling "GODDAMMIT BRETT!"

Despite his reckless play, and many times because of it, he became the football legend that he is. The only really bad season they ever had came because Brett was not having fun. As long as he was enjoying himself, I never thought there was anything he couldn't do.

Whether it was laughing at Warren Sapp after making him chase him across the field, or laughing because he just completed a pass he shouldn't have even thought of throwing, Brett Favre was always fun to watch, even when they lost. And who will ever forget the game against the Raiders when nothing could go wrong and even the Raider fans were cheering for Brett?

It broke my heart to watch his retirement announcement, and regardless of what he says publicly, I don't believe for a minute that he no longer wants to play. He said during the season that he wanted to play another year, and I believe if the Packers had encouraged him to stay he would have. Good management decision perhaps, but very disrespectful, and Brett took it that way. He proved last season that he still has what it takes to win and until he showed otherwise the Packers should have been honored to keep him.

Because of that lack of respect, I do not think he'll be back. And while there may very well be quarterbacks who break his records, there will never be another quarterback of his caliber. Gone are the days of a fearless QB who will do whatever it takes to make the play, even if it meant throwing the most interceptions in the league...who will throw himself into the crowd with reckless abandon...who will run the length of the field and tackle his receiver after a TD...who plays the game with such boyish exuberance simply because he loves it.

There will be quarterbacks who have phenomenal numbers, who have big games and put up big points, who throw the long ball and who win championships with apparent ease, but there will never be another Brett Favre.

As cliche as it is, he really was the Last Gunslinger.

Thanks Brett for the good times!! The Packers will never be the same.

I think Rodgers will be fine, nothing like Brett though. Time will tell.

It was interesting to see the interviews that he did back in the early 90's, wow!!

Being a Dallas Cowboy fan and knowing that he has never beat the Cowboys in Austin, I am thrilled. I will miss him. His toughness, his love for the game. But hey, 17 years is enough. He has won 3 MVP's. He has a SuperBowl win. He holds records for most passing touchdowns, most passing yards, and most wins by a quarterback. There is really nothing left for him to play for. He is a great player and the entire football world will miss #4.

Besides Favre's toughness and improv abilities, I admire that he played for one team throughout his career. That's a testament to his value to the Packers.

I figure: if he doesn't come back before the season begins, then he won't interfere with Rodgers' career.
