| Give XP a better look Posted: 3/6/2008 10:32:49 PM | For those that would like to change up XP's look a little without resorting to large clunky theme packs that can corrupt your system if you decide to uninstall them later. Here is a Microsoft theme that some of you that use XP Home or XP Pro may not know about still.
Microsoft released this theme to Windows Media Center 2005, but made it open for download to the rest of the public for a while now. The theme is called "Royale Blue" which gives the Taskbar and top page windows a more glosser look.

It's the same as the Media Center 2005 edition the only diff is the wallpaper.

The two machines I have used a number of these themes on are both single core 3 Ghz machines (circa 2005-2006 Intel and AMD processors).
Now that we're on it, here are some other links.
This is to another theme for XP from Microsoft, the Zune theme, released when the Zune media player went on sale: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=75078
And here's a uxtheme.dll patcher that will let you use a ton of other themes. Note that Windows will give you a couple of warnings that sound ominous, but you can cancel them and continue. I have had no problems after running the patch program and neither have the other people I know who've done this. http://www.softpedia.com/get/Desktop-Enhancements/Themes/UXTheme-Patch-For-Windows-XP-SP2-Final.shtml
And here's a link to themes that can be used after running the patcher. http://browse.deviantart.com/customization/skins/windows/visualstyle/?order=9&alltime=yes

just spent $1000+ upgrading mine to a 50% faster gaming rig. everything else just got moved over.
