| What dose it mean: Decipher Profiles Posted: 3/7/2008 3:52:10 PM | Sometimes when I come across profiles they will make statements that strike me oddly and I wonder what it really means. “I want an honest woman” Dose that mean that they are honest or dishonest? “I don’t want game players” Dose that mean they play games? I’m curious about what others have read and how they decipher what they mean. Is there a cheesheet on what to look out for when reading profiles? | |

| What dose it mean: Decipher Profiles Posted: 3/7/2008 4:05:51 PM | What's a cheesheet? When people specify against a certain kind of person I think it means they just got out of a bad relaltionship and it's still simmering under the surface.

| What dose it mean: Decipher Profiles Posted: 3/7/2008 4:10:36 PM | | i always thought the"dont want players"thing funny.to me ,by saying this you are saying you cant decipher what one is.it would sort of like a deer say"hey you buddy..ya,you with the gun.if you see any hunters around here tell them we dont want them around o.k". like said player i goimg to say"dam foiled again.geez isnt there anyone on here looking for players"?lol | |
|
| What dose it mean: Decipher Profiles Posted: 3/7/2008 4:25:58 PM | I suppose it means they have met a couple or more of dishonest, game playing women.
I kind of steer away from those type of profiles..I feel like the author might be a tad on the testy side.

I wonder what it really means. “I want an honest woman” Dose that mean that they are honest or dishonest? “I don’t want game players” Dose that mean they play games?
I think these phrases are pretty meaningless. You need to read the specifics about the person to get an idea what they are all about.

| What dose it mean: Decipher Profiles Posted: 3/7/2008 6:44:51 PM | Has anyone ever replied to one of these types of profile and what did U find?
Here are some others that I found: I’m looking for a gal that “real”. (Has he been with a fake one lol) I’m not looking for someone to take care of my daughter…. I have no baggage.
I was actually asked if I had baggage. I responded if my little ziplock baggie counted. I mean really how is a person to respond to that? Some of these are really funny to read.
A cheetsheet would be a page that U can read that would actually decifer what it means. I got into this same conversation with a friend of mine and tought it intresting so thought that i'd post.

| What dose it mean: Decipher Profiles Posted: 3/7/2008 8:17:43 PM | Yeah, that list pretty well sums it up, As our dreams seem to reflect our inner turmoil, these descriptive projections usually give light to the concerns/obsessions that all of us have.. or maybe I'm just a skeptic.. Doesn't do much tho to explain why many post pictures that are ten years and forty pounds lighter than what is going to become apparent eventually- but that's the human condition.. and what's odd is that many men are much more forgiving of physical imperfections than psychological ones.... at least I am.. I wonder why my last night's dream was about old friends and rattlesnakes?? any ideas?? I have no clue.. well, maybe some.. | |

“I want an honest woman”
Means: "I'm attracted to liars."
“I don’t want game players”
Means: "I'm attracted to players"
Want some more?
'I'm not here for sex."
Means: "I'm here for sex."
"I love to travel."
Means: "I want you to take me on a trip around the world."

| What dose it mean: Decipher Profiles Posted: 3/7/2008 10:23:55 PM | Considering you're a cute little blond with a corvette, I'd doubt you'll be on here long enough to worry about it. And if you really don't know the meaning of the terms, you have been a lucky lady up to this point. At first I didn't want to be the one to destroy your blissful lack of knowledge of such things. But having realised that not giving you some info would be the same as covering you with honey and leaving you in the middle of a grizzly infested forest. Either way, you may not come home in one piece.
I can guarantee that someone will disagree with the following, because for some strange reason, on the internet any single word will get you 20 different definitions for it. And though the previous one is funnier, I think this one is more honest.
So here is my short version of a cheat sheet: Baggage: Emotional scars or predjudices a person carries with them due to perceived harm done to them by a former relashionship partner. Can also mean financial and/or family obligations.
“I want an honest woman” Assumes they've been lied to a lot or cheated on by a former relashionship partner. And would rather not do it again.
“I don’t want game players” Games refers to “I'll act like I 'm interested so you'll A. Build up my ego, until some one better comes along B. Help me financially, until some one better comes along C. Make it look like I have someone, my friends will stop bugging me, and any other reason but the right one for being with someone. D. If you love me you'll......................... or I'm outa here. Faking attraction or emotion for personal gain.
Players (different from game players) Are people who seem to date only to see how many different dates or partners for sex they can get, as fast as they can. With no intention of forming a relationship with anyone. And the ones who are good at it, are the hardest to spot. They get your hopes up so quick, you stop looking out for yourself.
Fake: A shallow and/or very superficial person.
Good luck | |

| What dose it mean: Decipher Profiles Posted: 3/7/2008 11:08:11 PM | bird ~~ those that insist on putting on their profiles what they don't want are advertising what they are vulnerable to. I.e.. they don't trust themselves to discover the problems (because they have proved to themselves that they are unable to), and therefore wish the unwanted one to please disqualify themselves.
Ah! If only life worked that way, lol! I just read 'em as a warning signal/sorter. Gotta begin somewhere, and that set of statements is better than most.
Good luck!

| What dose it mean: Decipher Profiles Posted: 3/8/2008 4:57:47 AM | Gary...you gave me right vision of my profile...
now I see myself that I'm over 50...junkie...crazy and irresponsible...horny stalker looking for Mr Rich
maybe something more? | |
|
| What dose it mean: Decipher Profiles Posted: 3/8/2008 6:08:17 AM | ankka ...........I too, had to go look at my profile. According to the list: I am a undependable, crazy, pushy broad with a mean streak. I welcome all dependable, sane, wishy-washy milk toasts to contact me.
"They" say, opposites attract.
|
| What dose it mean: Decipher Profiles Posted: 3/8/2008 6:44:18 AM | If somebody has to "decipher" your profile, you've probably written it poorly. If you put on there what you think and feel...and you make it unambiguous... you shouldn't have any problems.
Unless of course the reader isn't the sharpest tool in the shed.
|
| What dose it mean: Decipher Profiles Posted: 3/8/2008 6:50:47 AM | Yes I find these things amusing too and always wonder how many women say to themselves "I'm a player, he is not looking for that". How many liars think "Oh I can't contact him, it says right here, no liars". If you ask me putting that on your profile is an invitation. It's a sign you have been duped before and probably can be again. Putting these things on your profile , to me, is like dumping chum in shark infested waters. | |
|
| What dose it mean: Decipher Profiles Posted: 3/8/2008 6:56:56 AM | | When I read a profile that says "must be honest; must have a sense of humor; must not play games". Give me a break, we all want someone in our lives who is honest, has a great sense of humor, attractive, financially responsible, etc. It's either so cliche, or the writer of the profile has some unfinished business in their life that they aren't over their previous relationship and have some insecurities. | |
|
| What dose it mean: Decipher Profiles Posted: 3/8/2008 7:02:02 AM | After reading the decoders list I need to change my profile.
Another thing I have noticed, if you put down "no game playing", that is what you get. Someone who plays games and you don't. We just need to be careful what we put on our profiles.

| What dose it mean: Decipher Profiles Posted: 3/8/2008 7:15:57 AM | great thread and so many light hearted responses for such a serious subject. glad to see the happy folks out again. though funny to read, gary's list is also true in many ways. reckon re-reading my own profile , i let folks know what has attacked me in the past as well. glad i'm no longer seeking a date/mate here so i don't have to re-write it. if i applied the list to my male profile, i'd look pretty pathetic. thanks for the laughs and keep 'em coming.

| What dose it mean: Decipher Profiles Posted: 3/8/2008 8:54:24 AM | Wow! According to Gary's list I think a lot of us are in trouble! I am a crazy former slut! Who knew???
OT: At times I think I should point out on my profile that I am not looking for a hook up, not into fellows who have not put their issues to bed. Hell, I don't want to have to listen and pay for what some other lady put them through. That is why we have docs to go to! But then, it only shows that yes, we have had these encounters and have not taken them lightly. So no, guess I will just leave it as a crazy former slut for now!
|
| What dose it mean: Decipher Profiles Posted: 3/8/2008 9:13:52 AM | Seriously though, many of those wordings are cliches.
Another point to think about when writing/reading singles ads: Of course we are going to ask for "honest, intelligent, trustworthy, loyal, faithful" and of course those of the opposite aren't going to be dissauded when they read the qualities we ask for. Its like politics, of course "I'm" the clean air, good schools, safe streets candidate. I'm still waiting for the first candidate to come along and brag of his/her desire for polluted air, bad schools and more crime. Nobody is going to write an ad asking to meet someone who has undesirable characteristics and the wordings of certain ads may reveal a person who has unpleasant ways and superficial demands but the writer sadly is not aware of such things.
