What do you think of Daylight Savings Time?

Tonight we set our clocks ahead one hour. In November we will set them back again.

Does this affect you, disrupt your schedule? How long does it normally take you to adapt to the time change.? Do you agree with doing this or would you rather it stay the same all year long?

I don't think, therefore I do not care........ .........lol......I think that the only people that this would disrupt would be the type "A" personalities that are anal in their scheduling of time...."Oh my god, my world is thrown off by a whole hour".....The following holds true.
"If you didn't know what time it is, what time would it be??????????????
But then this babble comes from a guy that does not own a watch.............

I hate Daylight Savings Time. The extra hour doesn't do me any good in the summertime & in November you give the hour back anyway. DST is more of a pain in the neck than a benefit to me & wish we stay on the same time year round.

as a parent of a special needs child that has been on a very tight schedule of medications all of his life..........i think DST is a pain in the tush!! my son's clock is not like the rest of us, he wakes and sleeps when he feels like it......most nights he goes to sleep around 1am -2am so now it's 2am or 3am...and as a single mother who has to get up and go to work the next day........every hour of sleep is very important!! i can't tell you the last time i slept 8 hours straight......oh, yeah, i can, about 18 years ago....

just about the time he is getting back in sync, the time changes again......and let me add, that having said all of the above......i still wouldn't trade my son for 10 "normal" ones..........i didn't chose this life........i was chosen........

think pleasant thoughts.....Wolfie

It's a PITA. I always forget the one in my car and it screws me up when I am enroute to somewhere I need to be at x time. Thinking I have plenty of time I stop at y. Get where I am going, thinking I'm early only to find out I'm late! Grrrr!

I do like the extra sun in the afternoons though.

I have the same problem with the clock in my car, never did change it last time because I simply can't figure out here. It is finally right, again.

I like it getting dark later, I love to cook out and I either had to start by 4 or cook in the dark.

I do feel bad for those whose schedule it disrupts, though.

I always bemoan the arrival of DST, but it gives me something to look forward to when it returns to normal. Having more daylight during the summer makes sense, but wouldn't it get around to that naturally anyway?

There was an article in the Jax paper about how the alleged energy conservation actually uses more during this little charade.

ONE YEAR LATER

I brought back this thread for a few reasons:
---It is that time of the year again
---There are many posters who were not here last year
---The extended dates of DST were never discussed

Personally, I love daylight savings time. My favorite time of the year is when it doesn't get dark until 8 - 9 pm.

The time change use to occur in April and October.
Since 2007 the time changes on the 2nd Sunday of March and then again the 1st Sunday in November. This gives us 8 months of extended daylight time instead of 6 months.

What is your opinion, thoughts on DST?

The only time that exists is THIS moment. The past is only a memory and the future is only imagination.

Nice thought, Wanna.

However, tell that to your boss, your doctor's office and so forth when you are late for work, miss an appointment and so forth.
I'm sure they will appreciate your deep wisdom.

Naughtical -

I'm with you - I LOVE this time of year!!!

Love the extra daylight - get so much more accomplished. Having night blindness I get to stay out later!!!!!

Going to Sebring to the races in 2 weeks and this now gives us an extra hour of daylight to get dinner cooked before all the night activities begin

Those would be the activities

Tonight we set our clocks ahead one hour. In November we will set them back again.

Whoa, you scared me! I was like WTF??? It's not TONITE! If it is, holy crap! I'm more out of it than I realized!

Phew! OK, well, I like it for the extra daylight when I get off work, so that MAYBE I'll go to the beach or ride my bike INSTEAD of coming home and turning on this friggin computer (after being on it all friggin day). MAYBE if this becomes a PAID-FOR SITE I won't want or be able to come here ANYWAY.

In which case, I'll miss all my fellow POF'ers but I'll get some exercise... and sun... and maybe I'll get SERIOUS about dating.

Hallie, wish I could do something about that original post. Got a feeling it is going to confuse some people who don't pay attention to the date (year). I guess I should have thought about that sooner, huh?

Oh well, what's done is done. Hopefully they will do like you and the others and read all the posts.

Actually, I think it's cool that you could resurrect this from a year ago, I'm sure it's a good example of "time flies." Not sure about the "having fun" part though!

What does DST mean to me? It means that I can be outside LONGER to grill without having to worry about actually SEEING what I am grilling!!!

Come on Beth....I heard you are a GREAT cook. I like DST as I love the extra light hours in the evening. Getting dark early reminds me of the winters I spent in NYC.

Cajun...THANKS for reminding me..lol...AND don't forget the smoke detectors in the house as well as the clock in your car. not to mention your watch on your arm. At LEAST we don't have to worry about the computers. They reset themselves.

I think for the first 2 weeks we should all be allowed to sleep an hour later than usual, and go to work an hour later than usual, so our body clocks can have time to adjust. I've always been a night owl and not a morning person, it's not by choice, it's the way I'm "wired."

hey cajun, i've got your answer, just set 2 watches ahead, that way you will always have 2 watches available with the right time. Of course, we could all just move to Indiana, isn't that the state that doesn't observe dst?
