N.Y. Governor apologizes after prostitution link Spitzer doesn't directly cite allegation first reported by N.Y. Times NEW YORK - Gov. Eliot Spitzer apologized to his family and the public on Monday, but did not elaborate on a bombshell report that he has been involved in a prostitution ring.
"I have acted in a way that violates my obligations to my family ... my sense of right and wrong," he said at a news conference at his Manhattan office. "I must now dedicate some time to rededicate my trust to my family."
Spitzer's wife stood at his side, her hands behind her back and her eyes cast downward, as he made the statement.
The New York Times earlier reported that a person with knowledge of the governor’s role believes the governor is identified as a client in court papers filed last week. Four people allegedly connected to a high-end prostitution ring called Emperors Club VIP were arrested in that case.
The Times reported that a person briefed on the federal investigation said Spitzer was caught on a federal wiretap arranging to meet with a high-priced prostitute at a Washington hotel last month.
Spitzer learned he had been implicated when a federal official contacted his staff last Friday, the person briefed on the case told the Times.
The Web site of the Emperors Club VIP displays photographs of scantily clad women with their faces hidden, along with hourly rates depending on whether the prostitutes were rated with one diamond, the lowest ranking, or seven diamonds, the highest. The most highly ranked prostitutes cost $5,500 an hour, prosecutors said. Prosecutors said the defendants arranged connections between wealthy men and more than 50 prostitutes in New York, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Miami, London and Paris.
The Times reported that the governor’s travel records show he was in Washington in mid-February, and that one of the clients arranged to meet with a prostitute on the night of Feb. 13.
The case is being handled by prosecutors in the Public Corruption unit of U.S. Attorney Michael Garcia’s office. Garcia spokeswoman Yusill Scribner said the office had no comment.
Spitzer, 48, built his political legacy on rooting out corruption, including several headline-making battles with Wall Street while serving as attorney general. He stormed into the governor’s office in 2006 with a historic share of the vote, vowing to continue his no-nonsense approach to fixing one of the nation’s worst governments. Time magazine had named him “Crusader of the Year” when he was attorney general and the tabloids proclaimed him “Eliot Ness.”
But his stint as governor has been marred by several problems, including an unpopular plan to grant driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants and a plot by his aides to smear Spitzer’s main Republican nemesis. Spitzer had been expected to testify to the state Public Integrity Commission he had created to answer for his role in the scandal, in which his aides were accused of misusing state police to compile travel records to embarrass Senate Republican leader Joseph Bruno.
Spitzer had served two terms as attorney general where he pursued criminal and civil cases and cracked down on misconduct and conflicts of interests on Wall Street and in corporate America. He had previously been a prosecutor in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, handling organized crime and white-collar crime cases. His cases as state attorney general included a few criminal prosecutions of prostitution rings and into tourism involving prostitutes.
In 2004, he was part of an investigation of an escort service in New York City that resulted in the arrest of 18 people on charges of promoting prostitution and related charges.

As long as we are on the subject - should he resign or do you think he should be allowed to continue as Governor?

I think he needs to resign because he is caught up in the same kind of activities he has prosecuted people for when he was the prosecuter...
But his biggest issue now is his wife...

Anyways, expect more paranoia from the females on POF.

But I’m tired… | |

Posted: 3/10/2008 3:43:19 PM | it used to be a politician could grind a few sausages into laws, then go down a couple rounds of rye whiskey and water, stop at madame fifi's and sample the new talent, pick up a kick-back or bribe or two or three go home to the little wifey and rugrats knowing he put in an honest day's work. but since the up-right citizen's brigade has taken over all the fun in being an elected official has gone right out the window.
sheesh, why bother. | |

...now he "needs time" to heal his relation with his wife and kids?........and at whose expense is that time gonna come from?.......the tax-payers who are paying his huge salary!
....this man needs to RESIGN his post!

| N.Y. Governor apologizes about prostitution link... Posted: 3/10/2008 7:33:01 PM | guess he wasn't getting what he needed at home...so went out for it. Big deal. Prostitution shouldn't even be considered a crime. Since the upright moralists in America have made it so, then the full force of the law should be used in this case especially. Will he have to go to "John School"? LOL! Resign, never be allowed to hold elected office for the next 10 years and be fined, plus have to compleete the "john School"....a course where the guys have to conceed to what their instructor says or they do not get off probation. | |

guess he wasn't getting what he needed at home Yeah, right! Blame it on the wife. That is so lame. *sighs* That is one of the biggest excuse cheating men use. I hope she divorces his ass and takes him for everything he has. Then he will be lucky if he could afford a cubic zirconia, much less a diamond.

“Crusader of the Year
It is not about prostitution. It is about participating in something illegal. Spitzer the chief law enforcement officer of New York state has violated the publics trust at the least and probably committed some real crimes.
Then we have to worry about how he paid for the "multi-diamond" lady of the evening. Rumor/Leaks have it then he funneled money from various accounts so his name would not be known. So he might be dealing with a money-laundering charge. Then we have to worry if any state money was involved. That would be embezzlement. Who know what other laws he violated. What a web he weaved, when he set out to deceive.
I wonder if he had one favorite or if he was sampling all the wares.

| N.Y. Governor apologizes about prostitution link... Posted: 3/11/2008 1:49:09 AM | | Why should we be shocked that another politician has been caught participating in prostitution? What shocks me is that he would spend $4,500 for sex!!!! Why do men do this? What sex could possibly be worth paying someone $4,500? | |

| N.Y. Governor apologizes about prostitution link... Posted: 3/11/2008 5:17:57 AM | | She was probably a seven diamond hooker friendlylady. Seven! You gotta pay for quality like that. Besides, with all the kickbacks the Gov is taking $5 k is probably not that much for him. | |

As to what he could possibly get for $4,300?.I guess that answers the question why he could not get it without paying for it.
