| Show of hands...How many woman here enjoy Sci-Fi? Posted: 3/13/2008 7:43:10 AM | When I tell men I am a huge Sci-Fi fan they always seem amazed.
Am I the only woman alive that is a Sci-Fi fan?
Didn't anyone else grow up watching Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica reruns and enjoy them?
I could watch the movie Aliens over and over again. Ever see Logan's Run?
LOL....I guess I am just a total nerd.

| Show of hands...How many woman here enjoy Sci-Fi? Posted: 3/13/2008 8:05:34 AM | Actually I know many women who are big Star Trek/sci fi fans. I just bought a copy yesterday hot off the presses of the new Stargate SG1 made for TV Movie for a 66 year old female friend who is recovering from a major car accident.
Most of the women in my family are big fans. My mother has watched Stargate for years in reruns and she is 84. She started watching it on her own and loves it.

| Show of hands...How many woman here enjoy Sci-Fi? Posted: 3/13/2008 8:07:16 AM | I have only met one other woman in my life who admitted to being a fan, and I knew it because she was sporting a "women of Star Trek " t-shirt when we met.
Good for the woman in your life!

| Show of hands...How many woman here enjoy Sci-Fi? Posted: 3/13/2008 10:19:47 AM | Every woman I've gone out with has been a Sci Fi fan in one form or another, except for the Ex. She hated the genre. Should have told me something in the first place All of my son's girl friends are Sci Fi fans, his sister is in some group that does security at the local cons and shows... fortunately none of them are filk singers (or at least admit to it).
Lots of woman into various levels of Sci Fi, and not just the nerdy ones either.

| Show of hands...How many woman here enjoy Sci-Fi? Posted: 3/13/2008 12:47:27 PM | When guys message women on here, POF makes available a long list of "likes and dislikes" a woman would have. Under the "dislikes" heading, you'll find "Science & Sci-fi". However, as with anything, there are exceptions to the rule. | |

| Show of hands...How many woman here enjoy Sci-Fi? Posted: 3/13/2008 1:01:05 PM | I never realy cared for the star-trek, stargate etc. shows. But I do love some sci-fi. I like to read sci-fi books, and watch some sci-fi movies. Also love the sci-fi channel on tv. I know what you mean alot of men are surprised by this. | |

| Show of hands...How many woman here enjoy Sci-Fi? Posted: 3/13/2008 10:01:58 PM | It's rare enough to find women who admit to reading/watching SF, but rarer still to find any who really appreciate it, and who know good SF when they see it, as opposed to the majority (of men as well as women) who think that anything with lasers and spaceships is good science fiction.
Here is one way to spot the difference: no real SF fan will ever call it "sci-fi." At best, that term is a diminutive; at worst, it's derogatory. Either way, it doesn't describe real science fiction at all.

| Show of hands...How many woman here enjoy Sci-Fi? Posted: 3/14/2008 4:22:02 AM | | I like all kinds of science fiction, though Dr Who and Star Trek are probably my favourites. One good thing about Dr Who is he tries to find intelligent, non-violent solutions to tricky situations. | |

| Show of hands...How many woman here enjoy Sci-Fi? Posted: 3/14/2008 7:12:03 AM | | I liked some of the Sci-Fi movies (Logan's Run, Starman, Aliens trilogy), but I really loved and miss Mystery Science Theatre, where Mike and the bots made fun of the movies while they were watching them. There were some REALLY bad movies on that show. | |

| Show of hands...How many woman here enjoy Sci-Fi? Posted: 3/14/2008 9:41:08 AM | I used to love MST too! Funny, because the first Saturday I ever watched it I though it was ridiculous, but it really grows on you. Them making fun of the bad acting was kind of like having a good friend with you there in the couch laughing about it!
LOL...bad is being too kind about some of those movies!

| Show of hands...How many woman here enjoy Sci-Fi? Posted: 3/14/2008 11:59:39 AM | | I've seen a couple of boxed sets of a couple of seasons of MST at the store. When I have the money, if I can't find them they'll probably be for sale on E-Bay or Amazon. | |

| Show of hands...How many woman here enjoy Sci-Fi? Posted: 3/14/2008 8:04:54 PM | | I like all kinds of science fiction, including Anime, SF novels (and also graphic novels sometimes), movies and tv series. My favourite TV series are Star Trek and Dr Who. | |

| Show of hands...How many woman here enjoy Sci-Fi? Posted: 3/14/2008 9:03:38 PM | I'm in!!! I like all kinds of science fiction--earth change movies, alien life I really liked the "V" when it was on. couldnt miss it. I like the old Star Trek, not so much the new. Loved the first Stargate movie, the others became redundant. Star Wars was primo. Loved Waterworld, Postman, The Stand, too many to mention. I think it first started when I was younger with "The Blob" | |

| Show of hands...How many woman here enjoy Sci-Fi? Posted: 3/15/2008 3:05:20 AM | ^^^^^ The original "V" and "V-The Final Battle" mini-series was excellent because of the in-depth character developments over the series' 7.5 hour run time. You could feel the despair felt by the small band of freedom fighters. However, when they made it into a weekly series, it flopped and was cancelled.
Can't say anything good about "Waterworld" though. Many critics have agreed that it was a washout. Pun intended. I fell asleep during the movie and missed most of the plot. Kevin Costner recycling his pee as drinking water?? Kinda makes one wonder where and how he gets his solid food!!

| Show of hands...How many woman here enjoy Sci-Fi? Posted: 3/15/2008 5:33:45 AM | | yes i'm a huge sci-fi fan and i remember logan's run...that was with michael york i believe..it was one of my favs..very original as matrix is today..i also taped 72 of the 75 original star trek series so that when i'm feeling a little nostalgic i pull a few out and watch them.i realize the special affects are laughable now..but that series had a magnetic charm the other modern star trek series can't hold a light to. | |

| Show of hands...How many woman here enjoy Sci-Fi? Posted: 3/15/2008 7:08:14 AM | Highlander-- Adrian Paul.. That's as sci-fi as I'll get involved with. Oh wait, I do like all the Star Wars movies.. But I'm not sure how sci-fi these things are considered. Probably not much.. JJ

You tape the original Star Trek?? Tape is so 20th century. You do realize they're all out on DVD or you could download them from P2P sites. Yes, the special effects are laughable by today's standards ... that's why Paramount has been remastering the series with new CGI special effects. Looks great if you've seen them. The first season of the remastered series is out on HD-DVD (along with the standard DVD version on the same disc), but because of the format wars won by Sony's Blu-ray, the next two seasons are now in doubt. Boo!!
