Two teens arrested after attempting to rob police station
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) - Two teenage boys are under arrest after they attempted to rob a police station.
Port St. Lucie police say the two boys - ages 12 and 14 - walked into the lobby of a regional station Wednesday afternoon and demanded money from an aide behind the glass enclosure.
Police say the 12-year-old hid one hand under his jacket as if he had a gun. Another aide ran into the back screaming for help.
Within minutes, a half dozen officers, some with guns drawn, burst into the lobby and arrested the boys. Both are charged with attempted armed robbery.
Police spokesman Rob Vega says the kids were laughing and remarked, "We'll be famous now." | |

I'm guessing that even at 12 and 14 they didn't really think they could hold up a police station with a finger in a jacket. They wanted to be famous in the internet way of being famous. Like this now. It's funny, but you're giving them exactly what they were looking for. To be honest, I feel kind of sorry for the cops - they were in a position that if the boys had tried to bluff, they'd have been forced to shoot two kids. | |

Hopefully the judge gets the "pretrial home investigation" (and hopefully accurate investigation) into account and is appropriate. They may be totally devoted anti-socials or youthfully stupid -- attention seeking is pretty regular stuff for that age group. But the limits need to set and installed. Can't assume either way whether this is life-long behavior and intentions or just youthful ignorance. The whole siuation, as you present it, seems potentially life-altering for these youths. | |

Posted: 3/15/2008 1:32:51 AM | Hmmm...well they did get what they wanted so they can't be THAT stupid. If you look at it from that standpoint it's actually rather clever. All the same, that's assuming that that was the intended goal.
As for rushing to investigate the parents...good grief . I have no problem with the idea of holding parents accountable for certain actions their children might take. To a point anyway. This is beyond that point. Kids come up with stupid ideas and put them into practise because they're bored or just feel like it. That's what kids do. If your kid gets arrested six times for breaking and entering then it's time to take a look at your place and check out what you're doing. If your kid walks into a police station and tries to rob it (of what I'm not sure) the most you're guilty of as a parent is spreading your genes. | |

Just like she said above, one wrong move on those two morons' part and they'd be pushing up daisies right now. Cops don't know who is actually carrying a firearm and who isn't. You think cops are just supposed to look at them and assume they're not actually armed ? I don't know if you're aware of this or not but kids these days are brazen, foolish, and well armed.
I'll tell you what though : If you think those nasty , no good cops are so useless and in need of reprimanding , why don't you take a vacation to a place where there are none. Somalia is beautiful this time of year I hear. Try it. Take a good hard look at life without law enforcement and let us know what you think of anarchy afterwards. If you've actually got the cajones to try this (and of course you don't) I'll bet you're dead within a week maximum. Or grow up...that's a lot safer. | |

Posted: 3/16/2008 4:11:35 AM | I am a former Police Officer. Had one of those kids made a threatening move, they very likely would have been shot; dead. Police were, and likely still are, trained, when having to shoot, to fire two shots center body mass.
Two shots center body mass, on a teenager, with what most Police Officers carry today; would very likely do so much damage, that there would be no putting them back together again.
Criminals do stupid things; that's why they're criminals. The Police don't know what anyone's motivations are, when they are called upon. All the Police know is what little information they've been given.
Two kids walk into a Police Station to rob it? It's either a joke, which this thankfully was. Or, it's someone who is very serious about robbing the place, and heavily armed. Either way, the Police have to treat the situation as if it were the real thing.
That Piggy comment was cute.
For those that think the same way as the person making the Piggy comment; next time you need help, call one of your friends that thinks the same way you do. Or, you could do as the gentleman above suggested, I hear Somalia is still really nice for a couple of more months this time of year. | |

"Famous"................. yeah, their story is getting some airtime, and a post here in the PoF
