What would you have done?

Last night, when I was out this guy sent me a drink. I was told who sent it, so I went over to thank him. I didn't even get the chance to say anything. Because he got up said " I didn't buy that for you" and walked away. So I went to the bar and asked if he was the right guy, and yes HE sent it to ME. I don't quite know what to make of it. Just wanting to know what everyone else thinks.

Sounds like he told the bartender it was for you but expected to stau anonymous - perhaps the bartender assumed he wanted you to know and it embarassed him. OR he did want you to know but was startled by your approach...maybe he's painfully shy and that was his way of dealing with it.

I've seen that before...

I probably would have placed it in front of him and left... or sent him one and then left while winking at his friends...I would have done something to make him feel like a jerk... maybe got the bartender to dump it in front of him.. I don't know... I'm not as creative as usual this eve.....

But I used to be a bartender and have no time for dumbasses

Girl, you sooo need to go back to school to learn how to spell. I am not trying to diss you in any way, it just looks really bad when someone cannot spell a simple word.

Sounds like he was experimenting with how to act in a bar. He just hasn't gottten to the part where he actually talks to the woman yet. He probably thought you were going to look over at him and smile and was surprised when you went to his table. It's been awhile since I was in that situation but I wouldn't have gone over to his table. That's just me though.

I'm dyslexic (Dyslexia is a learning disability that manifests primarily as a difficulty with written language, particularly with reading and spelling. It is separate and distinct from reading difficulties resulting from other causes, such as a non-neurological deficiency with vision or hearing, or from poor or inadequate reading instruction.
Evidence suggests that dyslexia results from differences in how the brain processes written and/or verbal language. Although dyslexia is the result of a neurological difference, it is not an intellectual disability. Dyslexia occurs at all levels of intelligence; sub-average, average, above average, and highly gifted) so some times I miss spell "simple" or small words. I didn't use my spell check, I won't make that mistake again.
How ever, even if I can't spell, I can be nice. Spelling isn't a carictor flaw how ever being unkind and rude is.

Ms.lissa: I would never have approached the guy, not even to say thank you. When told who sent it, a look in his direction and a slight nod is all you needed to do. If he wasn't looking...oh, well. Accepting his drink was making your move, the next one should have been his. If he then approached you that would have been the time to say thank you. I think you just threw him off balance.

off topic...never feel the need to explain simple things, like spelling, to strangers. I thought your post was far better written than most I have read. I really don't understand why some people want to belittle others.

Thankyou Lissa. So often I see the spelling natzis out In force here with NO consideration bar to put others down for spelling or grammer - Oh yes not all of our lifes revolve around a comma or dictionary

And I often think to myself too It shows how slow they are themselves not to realise theres a MILLION reasons why some cant spell or frankly dont give a damn. When alls said and done Its a keyboard on a chat forum - who cares.

You go girl and dont let the no lifes with their spell check and dictionary or their useless degree ( hey most Docs CANT spell ) put you or any other down for such Trivia

He was probably just so shocked by your beauty up close, he knew he wouldn't know how to handle it - hence, denial.

I just think the bartender mistook who the drink was supposed to be for.

Id say thankyou to a guy who sent me a drink if I found him appealing...great conversation starter.
If I wasnt interested...Id nod and say thankyou...then go back to whatever I was doing.

I think a guy bought you a drink.
The bartender told you who.
You went up to say thanks.
He said it wasn't me and left.
Hope you enjoyed the drink.

By getting up and going to the guy he's put in a panic situation. He doesn't know if you're receptive to his advance... he just knows you're "coming for him." Look to the guy, decide if you want to be receptive give him a non-committal nod if not, and a happy smile if yes.

i really don't think there was anything wrong with you thanking him for the drink..anytime i've had a drink bought for me, i've looked over at him nodded and smiled to thank him or if i happened to walk by i would thank him.you shouldn't feel guilty for that..afterall..it was he who made the first move..he's the one with the issues..if he had a prob with you thanking him,he shouldn't have sent you the drink over.

well to cover a few points....he probably hit the panic button when his plan suceeded to such a marvel!!
the whole spelling thing....just where did you stuff up???? really i cant help myself-i just spell properly - i dont punctuate when i type though- lol thats just my lousy typing!
as for dyslexia...one of my dearest friends has dyslexia and she is one of the smartest women i know with an armful of degrees overflowing from her kitbag of achievements!! so disregard rudeness and as for men who backpedal ...oh well chalk it up to experience!! the next fella will probably be rapt that you come over when he buys you a drink!!

This is just too funny!

I was out last night. I had a few drinks! I finally got the liquid courage up to buy the most beautiful woman I have ever seen a drink!

I had it all planned out I tell ya! I was across the bar. I was safe! I was safe from being rejected and left looking like an idiot in front of her friends.

As I watch, see receives the drink. I see her look my way as the bar person points in my direction.

Oh feck, what is she doing? Shet she's coming my way. What do I do? What do I say?
Shet, I gotta go.......................See ya...............

Maybe if you would realize just what type of prize you really are, it wouldn't surprise you that he was so nervous that he pissed himself just because "you talked" to him!

It's too bad that you don't realize just how sexy you looked last night. Especially when you laughed and you were smiling so freely! ( stop it! you make me want to touch myself)

~Belly~
Suceeded, dont, thats! I only answered because you asked!
Succeeded, don't, that's.... Any one who was so bothered by it enough to actually make a comment about it, is just jealous that the OP had a date and they didn't!

Maybe the drink was drugged and whoever sent it did not want you to know who drugged it. If the guy denied sending it, chances are he did not send it.
Did you get very drunk that night, get more rrelaxed than usual? have a massive headache the morning after?
I'd say there was no good in that situation and you should never take a drink from anyone in a bar, always order soemthing in a bottle and have it opened in front of you. also take it with you where ever you go.

The only other thing it could have been is when you came close to thank him, he didn't like how you looked and changed his mind about wanting to know you better.

Good for you, that you had the "manners" to get up and thank him!

That's ALL that matters! The guy, for whatever reasons has the problem. I think the worst thing we do to each other is all this pretending, faking, acting coy, aloof and other BS we do to one another. Your gesture is refreshing and others need to take notice and follow your lead!

Personally, I think sending a drink at anytime is kind of stupid. If a guy is going to do it, he should make it clear it's from him. No guessing.

Again, way to go that you tried to say thanks. A lot of other snobby women would not have had that decency.

Vitamix: excellent advice.
