| detoxification diets/ recipes Posted: 5/29/2005 7:31:51 PM | One form of the detoxification diet is one made up exclusively of fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, either raw or cooked, and whole grains, both cooked and sprouted; however, no breads or baked goods, animal foods and dairy products or alcohol are used. This diet keeps fiber and water intake up and helps colon detoxification. Most people can handle this well and make the shift from their regular diet with a few days transition.
The next level of detoxification involves a diet consisting solely of fruits and raw vegetables, all cleansing foods. The green vegetables, especially the chlorophyllic and high-nutrient leafy greens, are very cleansing and supportive for purification of the gastrointestinal tract and the whole body. MM Tip: -always drink green tea, at least 1-3 cups per day. - i changed using normal table salt to sea salt, lost 10 pounds in one week, but you Pee like a race horse, which is good. you honestly cant taste the difference.

| detoxification diets/ recipes Posted: 5/30/2005 5:46:07 AM | Most of the best detox diets avoid the use of ANY Grain/Cereal/
Try a few weeks without any of these in your diet and you will be suprised at the results Replace grain with fresh fruit instead preferably fleshy fruits such as peaches plums apricots etc rather that Citrus
This works extremely well for anyone who has Rheumatic/arthritic type pains etc But also a very good detox method

can i still drink coffee? ...
believe it or not, yes you can drink coffee. coffee is a natural laxative. but....like me, change surgar to sweet and low. and low fat milk. or coffee creamer.
if you have a food processor make your own carrot juice. so good for you, and omg its soooooo good. i drink it 3 times a week, would drink it every day but you need lots of carrots. i am a vegetarian anyways. Good detoxifying fruits. anything with a peel you eat. grapes, apples, plums. it has made such a difference in my body. also stick to allllllll green veggies. raw is always better. cooked is fine. | detoxification diets/ recipes Posted: 5/30/2005 11:41:20 PM | there's another diet very much similar to what another person posted in response to your question. Michael Thurman's diet plan, even if you're not doing it wholeheartedly will kick up your metbolism and you can loose anywhere from 5-10 lbs in a week. By eating every 2- 2 1/2 hours. 2 oz protein 1/2 cup of white rice, or rice noodles, and veggies for example- check his website for more details- he's the one that does the 6 week body makeover's for Oprah. I did it and lost 20 lbs in two weeks and didn't starve a moment of it...honest!!

| detoxification diets/ recipes Posted: 6/23/2005 11:48:03 PM | | I was hear that stuff from the military doctors. They say its not really heathty to do that to your body. Basically it just really dehydrates you and gets out all of the water in your system... Just eat heathy and work out... Detoxing isnt going to help you like with most over the counter crap its all mental... | |

| detoxification diets/ recipes Posted: 6/29/2005 12:24:15 PM | The best thing to do to detox is to not eat any meat or dairy. Drink water for awhile and stop drinking sodas and coffee, even tea if you can but if you must drink tea don't add anything to it and don't use a prepackaged tea loaded with presevatives and chemicals. For those of you addicted to coffee like me that actually enjoys the morning brewing ritual, a healthier alternative you can try is teeccino ( http://www.teeccino.com ) You should be able to find this at your grocery store if they have a health food section, or sometimes it's even in the coffee aisle.
Read labels on anything you buy in a store that comes in a packages (box, can, etc.) avoid chemicals, dyes and non food related products. Most of these additives are toxins in small doses. Also, you really want to avoid processed food, the more it's processed the more harmful it is for you. Your best bet is to cook your own food and not get things in packages.
Do not drink tap water, it's usually filled with chlorine and floride. These are also toxins, the chlorine is put into the water to kill bacteria because it is poisonous to living organisms... you are a living organism as well so find a filter that can get these out - read the box and make sure it does filter these chemicals, not all of them do.
Base your diet on carbohydrates such as potatoes or rice (not white rice, it's processed and should be avoided on a detox diet.) Add vegetables and 2-3 servings of fruit a day. Eat 5 times a day, you want a snack in between the 3 traditional meals (this is a good time for fruit.)
For more information I would go to http://www.drmcdougall.com
The site has a free newsletter that has good articles and recipees, there is a newsletter archive on the site as well that you can browse.
He also sells books on the site, I would highly recomend these as I've read a lot of different books on the subject (Including the Great American Detox Diet which might have inspired this thread) and his are the best I have found. For a Detox diet I would get his book: "The McDougall Program for Maximum Weight Loss" it's the diet I use to detox on and I was NEVER hungry when I'm on it - without appetite suppression pills, I had a lot of energy, and felt a lot better - even just a few days after starting the diet.
I've gone off it a few times, because it is a lot easier to get food that is already made for you and not have to read lables (I'm still learning how to cook). Though each time I do this I get sick, and also gain weight. I'm back on it again and plan to stay on it this time - busy schedule or not. Sick on being sick ;)

| detoxification diets/ recipes Posted: 7/2/2005 5:44:36 PM | I went to my family doctor and he said all the detox diet are bad for your health.
Basically all that happens is that your body loses a lot of water very quickly. Just by looking at the choices of food that are consumed (fruits vege..) they are mainly diuretic. I.e.. causes our body to loose water.
Finally, if we are really meant to eat vege and fruits only we wont be human. Sorry I like my meat.
I mean, there is no harm to avoid meat or certain food for a few days up to a week. I myself prefers a fasting type cleansing program that last no more than 2 days, every 3 or 4 months.
If you want to loose weight, then control your calories... and exercise. Don't we all know the solution already, but decided not to listen? It seems that we want to get into all the short cuts even if it put our health at risk. (that is mental health!!) Stop bashing yourself and get a few friends to support each other, encouraging each other to just limit the consumption, not cut it off.

| detoxification diets/ recipes Posted: 7/3/2005 6:38:42 AM | Coffee and sugar are to be sweared off if you are a woman with hormone issues however. I learned this in my last marriage. The female doc said women need to leave sugar and coffee behind when they come to a certain age. It worked for her.
But for detox, A nice hot sauna can clean out the stuff in us. And maybe not be so toxic, no drinking, smoking and all. Just a thought. It's easier to plan for health than to make up later for having disregarded the future in our actions of the day.
I still have junk from time to time but none of it is a habit or lifestyle and no cigarettes or drink. And lots of exercise.

| detoxification diets/ recipes Posted: 7/5/2005 2:30:02 AM | Detox diets always made me feel like total crap.
I don't trust them one bit.
I feel healthiest when I avoid processed foods and tons of oils. I refuse to eliminate entire food groups from my diet... well I guess I'd be ok without milk products.... but I won't eliminate anything else.
The first diet I went on can be found on the chetday site. I felt strange and then began to feel worse and worse until I finally gave in and ate a chicken sandwich. Felt 100% better right away.
The second diet was a Wild Rose cleanse. The foods I was on were good...but you had to take these laxatives. I went mental cause I wasn't getting enough carbs. I got a horrible cold and gave up. I ate MacDonald's and felt better pretty fast.
The 3rd diet was trying to be vegetarian...no fish. I took multi-vitamins and did the proper combos to get complete proteins. I lasted two weeks before I started to feel really wrong/cranky/weak etc.... One meal of meat and I was back to normal.
I don't buy the "it's your body cleansing...that's why you feel so bad excuse."

| detoxification diets/ recipes Posted: 7/5/2005 9:06:33 PM | | Try the book Fit for Life by Harvey and Marilyn Diamond. It can be an entire lifestyle change if you want it to be but any part of it that you follow will be helpful for you. It's all about food combinations, like no carbs with meat and stuff like that. My sister swears by it and she is the healthiest person I know! | |

| detoxification diets/ recipes Posted: 8/6/2005 11:56:46 PM | I have used Flaxseed Oil and it really works. Not only for detoxificating but for everything. Your nails, hair, and skin are much healthier and softer. | |
|
| detoxification diets/ recipes Posted: 8/7/2005 12:00:26 AM | You can also mix one tablespoon of Olive Oil and one teaspoon of Lemon Juice. It works but you will barf if you have a weak stomach. The Flaxseed Oil and the Olive Oil and Lemon Juice has to be taken every day. The olive one every morning and the flaxseed should be taken as the bottle says to. | |

| detoxification diets/ recipes Posted: 8/7/2005 7:07:22 PM | | I have found that carrot juice is very helpfull. I suffer seasonal allergies and missing a meal but drinking fresh juice really helps. I seems to reduce that jungle mouth associated with being over toxic, boosts your system. You can buy a cheap one at a department store, but the better ones really are easier to clean etc. | |
