Pics from 3/16 Keep or Delete?

I really hate pictures of myself. The only kind I hate worse than the ones taken of me by others are the ones I've taken in the bathroom mirror or with tripod & timer. Today 3/16/08, I added four images which I think were the best of the 30 I took. I was actually trying to document my "vacation beard" before I shear it off tomorrow. I really only want to keep one shot on the profile, so which one should it be?

Sorry, but you could use a re shoot. You have a strong light source behind you and nothing coming to your face - which you need to show off your beard (I couldn't tell it was there : /). The camera is more a focal point (the metal ring especially) than your face!

If I had to choose, the middle one, best lighting an no awkward over the head pose.

If your camera has the option, dial down the flash -2, and hold at arms length, should work. Otherwise hold at arms length, but face the window when it is sunny out.

I agree to remove the last 3 pics. I think your main one looks ok but remove the reference to your ex taking the dog with her. Not needed. Get some friends to take pics for you. Don't pose, just being natural.

I like your profile, well written and interesting. Best of luck.

Good advice, thanks. I think I should probably read the manual on the camera. I'm quite sure it has some options I have yet to discover.

I've been having problems with the "arm's length" thing. In close-ups, my facial features seem gigantic. Could that have something to do with the focal length of the lens? I've seen other people's pics done that way and they look great. I have friends with those pocket-sized cameras and those seem to work fine for that. This one has a long optical zoom lens and I think it's killing me in close-ups. Of course, there may be no way to disguise this huge melon anyway.

You wouldn't say that if you'd seen my pics for the gigs. When I'm playing, I go into intense concentration mode and (trust me) that face is much better for radio. I do have one set of good pics from the rehearsal studio, but I was still married at the time. I'm left-handed, so my left hand (ring and all) was front and center in all of them.
There's a full-head version of the guitar pic.

I like your profile, well written and interesting. Best of luck.

Thank you :) It's hard to know what to say, that's for sure.

I may try to take some pics in the workout room at work. It has a much better space with large mirrors and good ambient light. Thanks for the advice, all

Allright, I'm back!

I've taken everyone's good advice (most of it) on the pics and since I first showed up, I've altered my narrative a few times. Now, I'm interested in comments on that. I've been getting really good feedback about the picture with the brown dog and my comments thereto, so I decided to keep it. I've also been getting good reviews on the humor stuff. Of course, some of that was from guys masquerading as women but hey, a compliment is a compliment. I've changed, deleted and edited the humor several times and I probably will again, so if you need to comment on something, you might want to C&P with a quote here.

Like I said in another thread, I'm much better at proofreading than typing, so let me know if I've missed a glaring error.

I never actually asked everyone for a dose of my own medicine. That's of course because I'm a chickenshit. Now I'm asking for a review of not just the pictures this time, but the whole shebang. This weekend would be the best because I'm all loopy on Percocet. Like the Percocet, the headline won't last, so go ahead reviewers, tell me what I need to know while I'm still under the influence of the happy pills.

Well you're going to get it! And just so you know, it's vicodin for me ; )

Hey I liked it! And you among a few select others know that I hardly *ever* say that ; )

The pictures are excellent, and I appreciated the thought you included on the captions.
The 3rd one could also be used for your main, but if I remember right you have used it in that spot before.

You could add interests, but what you do list will attract the women that share your passion for music and the arts, so that's all good.

The rest flows easily, shows you as a unique individual with a sense of humor. I really liked the reference to your late HBO family dynamics. This also showed a soft side as well. You explain who you are to a great extent.

I enjoyed the way the first date was *set up*. It shows style and creativity, and generates the attention we all like to preach to others about ; )

You're good : )

Well Ted, I must say I love these days, when I see a fellow reviewer up for scrutiny, but quite surprised it has evaded me all this time!

I respect your view and opinions greatly in the forums but that doesn’t mean I’ll show any nepotism here. So… helmet and elbow pads ready?

Psych. Your profile is superb. I’ve always loved it. I do see a few gaps in it though, which surprise me based on the fact that we spew this garbage day in and day out, yet you’ve neglected to heed some of those warnings yourself. But then again you are one of the pretty people… every additional word on your profile only improves your chances. ;-)

Alright, tall, dark, handsome, 48, nearing early retirement, very athletic, plays bass, firefighter…if I didn’t know you from your posts I’d ALMOST want to call bullsh!t on your profile, as you seem too good to be true. Add to the mix you are fairly cool and fresh, and you’ve got a great sense of humour, not to mention a wealth of personality.

Your profile is well crafted. You’ve got near perfect command of the English language and your intelligence, personality, and sense of humour shine through in your words. Great pictures, although the one with you playing the bass is actually my least favourite one, even though people said you should put one like that up. The captions work well and you’ve picked the logical choice for the main.

You’ve only got five interests. You seem cultured and experienced in life; try and show this more with another 10 or more interests. At your age you should have plenty of healthy interests to share.

As of today they’ve included the Car and Smarts lines in the profile, but your Smarts comes up n/a. Kind of a funny turn of events. You may want to go edit your profile and pick something that is a little more fitting! LOL

I really like how you outline your text before you lay it out for the reader, kind of like personal foreshadowing. You don’t do much in terms of describing your personality, but to be honest this is one of the rare times I’ll say you really don’t need to! Your profile and your written word do it all for you. But it couldn’t hurt to include a few unique descriptors.

I love the questions section. Love it. In fact, I’ve referenced this and pointed people to your profile as a visual aide, but have always given you credit for it when I do this. But you failed to describe the woman you are seeking. Again, I don’t think it matters much but it couldn’t hurt to do so. Maybe your intent was to craft a profile that broke a lot of the conventional rules and prove it can be done in spite of this.

Your First Date section is masterful. I’d almost say it’s as good as something I’d write! ;-) I’m only kidding… it’s really good. Kudos.

Your age filter is a bit disturbing though but perhaps you are just filtering manually as they come. But to use a bit of your own medicine, my creep meter spikes at this sight. Consider revising it to something a little more acceptable to the masses, or remove it altogether and just filter all ages yourself.

One thing I took notice of is that you have children over 18 but you mentioned not a peep about them in your profile. This will likely come off in a negative manner to a woman your age or anywhere in your range for that matter. Women are nesting creatures by nature and love to hear about children, within moderation. Maybe insert a tiny nugget about them in your family section.

All in all, I say A in my books, and not just for effort. Very few A’s in my books on this site, but with a little spit-shining it’s easily an A+. Good luck T.

Ok this is pretty new for me.....however, you did ask.... I enjoyed reading what you wrote. It does make you sound warm and inviting and shows your sense of humor. All good there. I loved the pictures of dogs-they would attract animal lovers like yourself. What I didn't like was the reference to your ex. It sounded very cold. That alone would not be a problem however the overall effect of the pictures leaves me with the impression that they are all "staged" and I know, as you said, some of them are. It is hard to get the "sense" of a person from a picture that have been created for show. Did you realize that you rarely smile, a nice warm smile goes a long way. The only smile that looks natural is the one with the dog/ex, coupled with the comment it leaves me feeling rather cold. I don't believe from what you wrote that you would be that kind of person it would be nice to see you laugh, look happy, and having fun. I know.... all this from someone who has not posted a picture but I'm not fishing....just chatting. Best of luck you will meet her it just takes time.

^^^Normally I'd agree with you on the pictures and the quote about his ex, but because of his general air of positivity and his sense of humour the caption comes through very clear and not in a demeaning way. I don't see it as "my ex took the dog and I miss the b1tch...not the b1tch ex, but the b!tch dog...I don't miss that b!tch of an ex". It is intended as "my ex took the dog and I miss the old girl (the dog, a b1tch)". I get his sense of humour. As for him not smiling he's one of the few that can pull these things off. No explanation of his ideal woman, or little description of his personality directly, but he still appears warm and inviting and non-spiteful. I've been able to pull off not smiling in any of my pictures the entire time I've been on here and have not had any problems garnering contact or responses.

The only thing I actually said about my ex is that she took the dog. The rest occurs inside the reader's head. Not only did I never say I missed my ex, I also never called her a b!tch.
