| going to Cuba Posted: 3/16/2008 4:39:51 PM | | Going to Santiago de Cuba March 20th.........anyone know of any chatlines or ways of free communication to Cubans before I go?....thx. I would love to talk to someone in English before hand and possibly meet them there. I noticed Cuba is absent from this site. | |

| going to Cuba Posted: 3/16/2008 5:22:16 PM | | Besides the strict government control on everything in cuba - I doubt too many can afford the luxury of the internet - sounds like you know very little of the day to day living of a Cuban - maybe some research before you go might provide the needed insight. | |

| going to Cuba Posted: 3/16/2008 5:25:17 PM | | Actually I know quite a bit about Cuba, this will be my 6th trip. I am well aware of their economic situation and at the same time aware of their ability to internet access. Please, if you do know of sites, then respond. | |

| going to Cuba Posted: 4/3/2008 8:11:58 AM | Well now cuba is not in the 1890's like so many think they are! Alot of people there do have internet and also do use the chat lines. You can check out www.hi5.com And also check on pof here and you'll be surpirsed just how many cubans are on the internet. As for others just do a search and probbly you'll find other sites too. Never been to cuba yet but I too am interested in going some time. But before I travel any where I like to find out whats to see and do for a single non spanish speaking canadian !LOL Then if I find lots to see and do then I make plans to go .

| going to Cuba Posted: 4/5/2008 8:52:51 PM | | I would love to go to Cuba someday, but unfortunately, living in the US, this is not possible, even though I'm Canadian. US Immigration just does not like people visiting Cuba. | |

| going to Cuba Posted: 4/8/2008 2:55:22 PM | As you rightly say, Cubans are economicaly challenged, however, extremely well educated and love the internet as much as we do. So anyone with access to a computor at work etc gets in as much online time as possible. I love Cuba and its people. try www.worldvoicecafe.com | |

| i am a cuban boy that invite to you come to visit my country Posted: 5/4/2008 6:52:42 AM | | I have heard that if you are american and you enter Cuba thru one of the Islands either by boat or plane that they will not stamp your passport. Any thruth to this? My parent went on there Honeymmon to Cuba and they loved the country. It was late 50s. Actually the same days Castros army came out of the Mtns to start the revolution. After a few days they finally goto the navy base and then were escorted to the airpor and flown to Miami to finish there Honeymoon. They were dooomed from the start. Get Married - Honeymoon with guns and bombs and 15 year old with machine guns lol | |

| going to Cuba Posted: 5/7/2008 12:45:55 PM | | Can we be arrested for going? Bush administration is stil in power and they might be monitoring :) | |
|
| going to Cuba Posted: 5/7/2008 2:39:39 PM | | My understanding is that you have to go through Venezula or another Latin country to Cuba and they don't stamp your passport. You cannot go directly to Cuba--at least this is what a man who has been often has told me. | |

| going to Cuba Posted: 5/7/2008 7:07:42 PM | OP - thankfully you're from Canada, so you should have an easier time to go versus someone living in USA. You can do a google about Cuba, I know there is internet access. Just GO!!!
I'd love to go over there. When I see pics of those old cars, I'd love to bring some back, have them restored and sell them. Oh yeah, and the Cuban cigars??? You betcha!

| going to Cuba Posted: 5/8/2008 9:09:09 PM | It easy for an american to go to Cuba! I went alone in 1998. I don't speak Spanish and knew no one there! I flew from lax to Cancun. Then got a flight Cancun to Havana. Met 3 American dudes who I spent some time with. When you leave they will not stamp you-However, I insisted they go ahead!
Of course on the way back I went through Cancun. The Mexicans where much tougher than any US customs and searched the heck outta me but I still had my cigars!
There is no way the us government would waste time prosecuting you for going to Cuba! There are lawyers who would defend you for free if they did to try and put an end the ridiculous travel restriction.
Buy a Lonely Planet Cuba and you will be fine. You can probably get by on 25 US dollars a day easy staying with locals. If you stay at the tourist hotels expect a rip off. Enjoy!
