Blocking someone without contact?

Would you ever block someone from contacting you before they've even done so?

If so... why?

I mean, I could understand blocking someone who's been a jerk or whatever.
But... I don't see much reason in blocking someone who's written you, and you're simply not interested in.

Do you ladies truly get THAT much harassment from idiots who can't accept that you've not written them back?

But... I don't see why you would go around blocking someone who you've not actually talked to yet.

For myself, the only time I've blocked someone is when their actions have reached stalker levels. I've had some negative responses from ladies who I've told I wasn't interested in. I always answer, even to politely turn them down. I hate seeing "Read/Deleted" myself, so wouldn't want to do that to others.

But generally, even if they are somewhat cruel in their responses to rejection... I wouldn't bother blocking them... as they usually only give me an angry message or three before getting bored of their antics. :p
Only a couple have constantly harassed me, and needed blocking.

I would never block anyone unless they have been rude or abusive towards me! I have had some rasist messages - they definitely get blocked. There are also the really argumentative ones who won't take no for an answer - in regards to forum differences of opinion. Nasty people need to be sent a clear message their BS will not fly - blocking is a good way to let them know!

edit Fun FL girl - I didn't know you wanted to go first !! lol

I've never blocked anyone without contact from them before. Although I can see how there may be some people from the forums that I might want to block because of some comments they make.... I do however block people after one rude message. I don't need to deal with that and it just makes things easier for me.

okay, I'll go first.

"Would you ever block someone from contacting you before they've even done so?"

no, I would give them a chance first. But, if after the 3rd or 4th contact he turns out to be an idiot or too possessive you can bet your sweet a$$ I am gonna block him.

I have been contacted by complete jerks, that have sent some really cruel words and that will warrant an automatic block from me. Harrassment warrants a block from me too.

Enjoy

Unless I'm blind and can't see a "button"(?), I'm not sure how people are able to block someone who's never contacted them?

There isn't a way to do that on here?

I know I've talked to some ladies who after a few messages, sometimes after chatting for a week or so... I have decided are just not right for me. They might be nice enough, but, they're not someone I could see myself being with.

Usually, after I've sent them a message explaining this and why... they can accept it without a problem. Sometimes we'll keep chatting as friends, but nothing more.

But once in a while... a "lady" will start screaming at me for "playing" them or messing with their feelings. Which isn't true of course. It takes time to get to know someone, and when I know them enough to be able to make such a decision, I tell them, because not doing so WOULD be toying with their feelings.
I'd never lead a woman on like that.

I know that rejection can be a problem. And it's never a nice feeling.
But, some people act as if someone who turns them down does so out of nothing more than cruelty. And it's a sad thing to see.

I don't know how it's done. As I've only blocked two people in all the time I've been on this site.

I had simply tried to contact a woman who's profile I admired. She has a new account, only recently created. And I know I've never contacted her before.

So I just thought it very strange to see a message telling me I'm blocked.

Maybe it's not that she blocked you purposely, but she has restrictions on her profile preventing you from contacting her?

Seems more likely.

I too thought the only way you could block someone was AFTER contact had been made and then there is that block button that appears after their email. I'm assuming also that this must just be mail restrictions if u have unable to contact someone in particular

Adam,
who would block YOU?
Lemme talk to her... and explain just wrong she is...

Seriously, you cannot block a person till they send you a message.
Only when there is a message in your inbox,
there is a link that says "Block User"...
There is no other way to do it, as far as I know.

So, either you messaged her before and cannot remember it
(you don't do drunk emailing ... right?)
or she has restrictions on who can email her, as nicky2tone suggested.

I don't block easily... just looked at list, and there is one crazy chick
who sent me a hate mail, because I did not agree with her in forums (my only piece of hate mail so far),
and the rest are "repeated offenders" - guys who repeatedly send "wanna get drunk and fcuk"-type emails.

Well, as far I know you can only block people after being messaged too. But I do know that I've never contacted her before.

But the message that popped up did specifically state that I was blocked by that user. Not that I didn't meet their contact restrictions.

It doesn't really matter. It's her loss anyway. I was just more curious about what others think of this. Always up for a nice discussion. ;)

And thank you redcassandra. *Hugs*
It means a lot to hear. :)

And no, I don't do drunk emailing. LOL! Never been drunk in my life. Well, maybe that one time when I was 6 or so... but that hardly counts. ;)

I'm surprised you don't get more hate mail red. All those ladies out there who must obviously be jealous of you. ;)

Some of us do. I got so many IM's at once that it would crash my computer... so I disabled that all together. Otherwise, I'm pretty friendly and open minded. I've got to tell you, though... Nothing is a bigger turn off than asking if I want to "cyber" in the first message I receive. Yuk!

LOL! Yeah, idiots who contact ladies with the intent of cyber are funny to hear complaining about how they can't seem to get any breaks. :p

It could be someone you turned down before and didn't like it. It could also be that she decided to write a profile she knew you'd like to have you contact her and she had blocked you. Stupid thing to do but hey, lots of people here do stupid things.

You can't do that. You'd have to have gotten a mail first. There is no link on a persons profile where you can block him or her.

I don't block people, if someone is rude I respond if I can. (sometimes someone writes a rude mail and block me immediately so I can't reply... LOL) If I then get another mail I simply delete it without reading it. I think that is a better way to handle them. If you read their mail, they have gotten the attention they wanted and they keep writing. If you delete it, they give up pretty soon.

Sometimes I respond to rude mails with something like "Thanks for your kind words, I am so looking forward to hearing from you again". That seems to stop them in their tracks pretty quickly. I can almost see their flabbergasted expressions.

Thank you, Adam.

I know that you were joking, but in all honesty,
I have met many wonderful, smart, intelligent, strong, vibrant women through the forums.
I have never expected for that to happen when I signed for PoF,
but the women that I met here are so cool that I am almost tempted to switch the team.
Almost... not quite there yet (plus, I met some really cool guys here as well... so, there is still hope).

Anyway, if you really like that lady... and I fit her mailing restrictions, feel free to email me her handle name.
I will gladly send her a link to this page, or any other message that you would want to send...

Yeah, I'm still confused about that. Maybe it was just a glitch while sending or something.

I actually checked my blocked list, and it's empty. So I guess those I'd blocked have given up on the site. LOL!

Oh, I know this place has some truly amazing people here.
I've met a number of them. And count some of those I've met here as close friends.
Heh, and dated a couple. ;)

And don't worry about her. She does seem great from what I saw in her profile. But, if she's not interested... then that's fine. Her loss. ;)

If the person has im'ed you using the messenger system on this site and you use the block provided on the messenger window, it will put them on your "blocked list" and not allow them to either send you an instant message or email.

If you don't believe me, contact the people I've blocked because of their sending me rude/moronic instant messages....they'll tell you -hehehehe

Hmmm... I wonder if maybe that's it.
I've seen my IM pop open at times, when I've not even clicked on it. Just when I refresh the screen or whatever.
I actually had a friend who had that problem too. I kept getting these IM's from her, even though I don't use it myself much. I'd contacted her about it, and she had no idea it was happening, as it wasn't showing on her end.

Of course, I know the IM on this site is... difficult... at times. LOL!

Can you block someone on here without contact?

That would be cool if you were able to. If you are a reader of these forums, you can tell some people are just the way they are. Good, bad, asses or not, they are who they are.

I've not only read their profiles (which seem to be as mean or good as they are on the forums) but had the pleasure of getting "into" it with some on other areas online (most use the same user names and photos on other sites). So you see them here and I'm like OH man! Please don't see me, please don't see me...

So to not get into it with them, I just rather block them before my head blows off with steam.

the only time i block someone is when they send me a message or IM & if I don't respond they become aggressive & wont stop emailing/IMing me. I don't need that.
