I am sure we've all stumbled across a profile now and then and thought "why the hell did they put that" (or something similar) or found yourselves chuckling at a certain line.

So may be a few hints and tips on what not to write would be useful.

For instance

"Bored" - I never really find that an appealing description

im sure you can think of loads more

What not to put in a profile - let's see how many people I can offend here :

'likes long walks on the beach'
'happy to go out or stay in and cuddle up with a DVD'
'can't be bothered filling this in. ask me'
Long lists of partner requirements. Things offered in return : none.
Any ASCII art, references to Maddie, Diana, cancer, troops or other braindead causes that get in the way of you actually doing anything with your life.
txt spk
any references to weirdos, ugly people etc etc. We're all on here to look for fanciable people, but you don't need to make yourself sound narrow minded and shallow.

"I find this really hard" or "don't know what to say" - it implies lack of imagination and would leave me to wonder if they are all that off paper aswell. We all find it tricky describing ourselves, but i wouldn't actually say it in black and white on my profile.

That you are wanted by the police in many countries... that must be a major No-no on any profile. Not that I have seen any with that on by the way.

"Looking for soulmate" has to be the worst thing to put on them though

Anyone that spells is iz, they're clearly far too gangster and likely to kill me.

I also find proviles with just a shed load of x's and nothing else to be quite off putting, unless they're trying to say that they're the burried treasure I've been looking for?!

Teenage dialect on adult profiles is the worst. Also profiles asking if there is anyone genuine or moaning that they've been hurt in the past.I'm sure this puts off alot of people.....

The 'honest, genuine, sincere' stuff really makes roll my eyes back. By whose standards? 100% of the time?

People making themselves out to be living, breathing saints.

the "I have had my heart broken by the love of my life and am looking for someone to heal me and make me trust again..."

total red flag to stay far far away!

Apart from the obvious red flags.. ie. "you can't tame me", "looking for a sexy lady", " cook me a nice meal".

These are my pet no-no's

"Been hurt and looking for someone to restore my faith in women"
means....
You've got baggage, you're not over your ex.
Deal with it! Get counselling. you're obviously not ready to love someone else, and no-one should expect someone new, to put right something that someone else did.

"Sex"/"intimacy"/"sensual"......... any of those words make me run a mile. we all know that "Eventually" sex/intimacy/sensual, will happen if you meet the right person, you don't need to advertise it as a requirement. and it shouldn't be expected that any of those words should be acted on , on a first chat/date.

"Tactile"......... Octopus?

" Share fun times" ---------->. runs in opposite direction. (i'm gonna be nobody's bit of "fun")

and why oh why do men put on their profiles that they're looking for a good woman? (to me it means, a faithful not loose woman, but theyre usually after just sex)
what does it mean? can any of you blokes tell me?

spotted someone's profile on the back of the door in the services with an offer to send the woman special pictures, suspect it was not her that made it :)

not into leet and sms writing, great for sms, but not for profiles...

being hurt was mentioned on someone's profile and found they just got divorced / been dumped / dumped someone else etc and needed a man, any man would do....

generally look for common interests :)

Think everyone's hit the nail on the head so far!

I can never understand why a lot of men who are looking for "friends" then put sex as their one and only interest.

And what about those people who claim "this is my first time on a site like this" or "never done this sort of thing before" when clearly it's not true because you've seen them previously on other dating sites. Do they not realise it's not just them who have tried more than one dating site so may well have been spotted before?

You never see this one..

Fat flatulent bloke, drinker, smoker seeks doormat to clean the house once a week and get pissed with!
I'm easy going and like a night in with a pirate dvd just as much as going to the pram and munky on giro day.
The lucky lady will also enjoy occasional trips to Granada studios for filming with JK.
A looker prefered but not essential, should have at least 3 teeth (any order) and a shaved clopper.
No timewasters please.

andyaa, i just looked at your profile after reading your post on this thread, as i found your comments quite good, but your profile,
Now maybe im just too simplistic at times, but surely does it really matter who you are with and where you are, as long as your both relaxed and having fun?. I cant see anything wrong with watching a nice dvd and having a nice cuddle. I also know how to party, but your reference to others who like to just chill and relax does make me laugh
.

A list of words which are supposed to make sentences this could be easily rectified by using a spell and grammar checker txt spk iz nt particularly endearing and the

correct use of paragraph breaks is not a difficult skill to master.

Another thing which puzzles me is the amount of people writing that looks aren't important, and then saying that no reply unless you have a photograph?????

Yeah completely agree, like those tw*ts that have pics of them fully leathered on a motorbike, with a Crash helmet so you cant actually recognise them thus making it a completely pointless pic... :p

It's horrifyingly, stupifyingly dull and unimaginative. Yes, we all enjoy it, which is precisely why it shouldn't be mentioned..

BigG, the reason i want a photograph is purely because i dated someone off pof who was very nasty and i had to get the police involved. I do reply to all mail and chat to anyone that wants to but although i am not shallow, i do not have a type there does have to be some attraction for things to click. Now with me its eyes and personality.

Angie, I consider myself suitably chastised and I shall go stand in the naughty corner!!!

Seriously though, I think we all know that your reasoning is the exception rather than the rule for people demanding a photograph before they will reply to messages on here.
