| World War Z Posted: 3/21/2008 1:19:49 PM | Hey folks,
I just finished reading and listening to World War Z by Max Brooks. It's about the aftermath (in a series of interviews) of the Zombie Wars. It's a great little read and fun to listen to and every since I read it, I've been having wacky dreams about zombies. Oh the fun!
I found what happened to us as a whole (humanity) fascinating. The fact that we finally come together over a mass threat and begin to realize that all our petty social issues are pointless when loved ones are rising and cannibalizing us. Do you think it will take a world disaster, such as zombies, to bring us over all our petty human squabbling? Also, if you've read it, what do you think about in a general zombies based novel? Or how it approached the zombie war, how we handled it, and what parts did you think (other than the actual zombies) were too far fetched?

| World War Z Posted: 3/21/2008 2:46:35 PM | There are zombies in the world today, invented by politicians and named terrorists. Their purpose is to induce fearful people to hand over parts of their civil liberties, in a bargain for salvation from zombies, I mean, from terrorists. For some reason people are more likely to voluntarily subject themselves to tyranny if they believe an external enemy is out there threatening even worse horrors than enslavement. Zombies would eat your head while you were pinned down. Terrorists would force your uncle and father to commit gay marriage.
At least you're getting some wacky dreams out of it. Had you not read the book and learned of the Z threat your dreams would probably have been wasted on kittens and puppies or that one about showing up at school without your pants.

I’ve been having zombie apocalypse dreams since I was a kid, often epic, usually fatal. I mean really! It’s my dream shouldn’t I be the hero? No, half the time I just get eaten… I’ve got a whole zombie post apocalypse world inside my head, I came up with an idea for a zombie MMORPG a few years ago that my gamer friends all think would kick ass, they keep telling me I should do a full write up and try to sell the idea.
World War Z is on my reading list but for now I have a HUGE book back log, stacks… So many books so little time. I’ve been wanting the order The Walking Dead graphic novels by Robert Kirkman too.

It's about the aftermath (in a series of interviews) of the Zombie Wars. Since when do Zombies have anything to fight about other than food?
I never really understood Zombie movies/books or the fascination in them. I mean, who came up with this idea? They couldn't have put much time or thought into it.

They're fighting for food... aka... to eat the peoples! They don't fight. They just do this sort of mobscene gig and people are stupid, thus panic, and thus die.
To other posters: I'm sorry that you have zombie apocalypse dreams! So far I've managed to kill the ones in my head with relative ease (smashing brains is mucho fun thus far and leaves me awake with a sense of satisfaction). A zombies game would be fun. I've run All Flesh Must Be Eaten a few times with great results. I also enjoy the Zombies!!! board game by Twilight Creations. Always a good time, except it lasts sooo long.
I was thinking I'd love to do a zombie theme park. Y'know, have the mansion, the hospital, the mall, the church, etc and have people pay to be attacked by people acting as zombies. Similar to a paint ball type experience. If you get red "blood" on you from a 'bite' then you're infected and are then able to attack fellow players. Survival earns you points/prizes. I'd pay to be attacked. But I'm psycho like that.

If you don't get the fascination... no offense... by why post here? Well, I thought these forums were to share opinions, even opposing ones. And the title of your thread said nothing about Zombies. If it had I probably would not have even clicked on it. But once I was here, I decided to read and give my 2 cents.

Do you think it will take a world disaster, such as zombies, to bring us over all our petty human squabbling? The media at the moment seems to closely resemble Chicken Little: the sky is falling, it's the end of the world... the ice caps are melting and we're all going to die.
Are we getting more united in response to all this? I'm not seeing it.
People pull together if there is a mild sort of crisis, like a train delay, the complaining creates a kind of camaraderie. But in serious crises people are scared for their own safety and well-being and I think this kind of fear tends not to enhance our limited qualities of compassion, patience and clear, calm thought. I think people would be far more likely to develop a very primitive survival mentality especially if their loved ones were lost or were the ones attacking them. When everyone you love most dearly is gone, how much would you really care about what is left or even yourself?
